Kylian Mbappé | Player Performance Thread

To me he is more like Henry, he combines great pace, strength, dribbling and direct play with some amazing finishing, he doesnt really have Ronny 9 or Messi ability on the ball but few defenders can handle such a force. He is really quick and everything he does is with intensity.

Don't want him. I don't think we can afford to nurture another young talent while the team suffers results wise.
And no club should never ever pay over £50m for unproven teenagers. They could easily flop. Spend the money on our academy and you will get the likes of Rashford, who is just as good or better than Martial who we paid £60m for.

Nurture? This guy has just taken his team to the semi finals of the Champions league while equaling the record for scoring in consecutive matches.

Let's see if he can do it two years on the trot, or whether he'll fall victim to the dreaded sophomore jinx.

We've not paid £60m for Martial yet. Roughly £42m at the moment. £60m would be if all three clauses come in, in which case it'd be worth it.

Martial's on a completely different level to Rashford. Rashford's good, not that good.

When I judge an offensive talent I always look at 3 things:
- How good is his technique? (first touch and close control)
- How composed is his finishing? (can he calmly pick a corner?)
- How strong is his footballing IQ? (good decision-making and eye for his teammates)

When a talent shows good signs for all 3 criteria they'll usually have good careers later on, playing for top clubs etc. Mbappé fits all 3.
Martial for example also fits the 3 criteria IMO. A guy like Memphis on the other hand doesn't excel in the 3rd criterium.

Is he top scorer in all the competitions he plays? nope. of course he needs to be nurtured. He isn't the most deadly striker around is he? He obviously needs to establish himself over time. Martial carried Man Utd to the FA cup and joint 4th in the premier league. All our other players were poor until Rashford came through. Even he needs nurturing still clearly. If you think Mbappe is ready made then I don't know what to say

I'm gonna be a bit of a cnut here but technically he is, according to goals/assists per minutes. :D

Terrible reasoning.

89 minutes per goal in the league, and 71 minutes per goal in CL.

The topscorers have played three times the number of minutes.

Martial was a year older then and never reached this level at all.

Does he have to be top scorer in every competition to carry his team? He is scoring freely, and in right system, with the right manager he will continue to scare the shite out of opposition defenders.

So? Why has he played so few mintutes compared to appearances? Its a miniature sample size as he has 5 goals and 12 goals respectively as opposed to 10 CL goals and 24 league goals, for example. Iheancho had the best goals to minutes ratio last season. He is on a good patch. 12 league goals from 12 starts, (11)bench. 12 league goals are good early numbers. Let him score 20-25 in a league season and then you know he is the real deal. Balotelli has similar goals to games in ligue 1, but again, we are using the smaller sample and making comparisons to greatness. If Vardy scored 10 premier league goals in 1000 minutes/10 games, would you consider him as lethal as Lionel Messi or even Cristiano? probably not. But Vardy scored over 20 league goals so it was genuine. I would prefer a lesser chorus of delirium until then

Will come up against Bonucci and Chiellini.

Will be interesting to see how he does.

I think he needs another season or two to see if he's the real deal - the numbers he's putting up are great but they will eventually dry up. I've watched him 4 or 5 times this season, and beyond his goals, I see a footballer who's solid technically, a decent athlete with a great work ethic off the ball and a cool head on it - I don't see a unique talent like that of Messi, Hazard or Ronaldo when they burst onto the scene.

Monaco are flying at the moment but their team could get pillaged this summer, if he decides to stay on it'll be interesting to see how he adapts.

He had a concussion during the first game of the season, so Jardim have been extra conscious with him during the first part of the season.

My Arsenal supporting friends are convinced Wenger will sign him for them, despite the fact they'll likely be playing in the Europa League. Crazy feckers.

We signed Pogba when we were only in the You'reRopey League. Just saying.

The point is that no one could be the topscorer with those minutes; he would need to have been scoring a goal about every 25 minutes which is ridiculous. Saying 'is he top scorer in all the competitions he plays? nope' to downplay his ability when that is explained by the minutes he's played is somewhat dishonest.

If we want him we will have him. A bit like when Jessica Alba goes on the pull. If she wants him she will have him.

We are the Jessica alba of football if you understand what I'm saying.

Like it or not, you will see Man utd as an aggressive buyer of young talented players from Martial and so on. Mbappe ticks every box in this strategy. This strategy doesn't exclude investment in proven players like Griezman or Lukaku. Beside we need to buy more than one forward this summer.
Cmon! This boy got everything. 18 years old. It would be impossible to get him later if Real, Barca or Bayern got him first.

Good point, it's now or never, could be a Rooney like signing where we pay a large fee, but it looks like an absolute steal now!

I'm convinced he'll stay at Monaco next season. His mom is still driving him to training every day. He feels good in Monaco and he's said himself that he's in no rush to leave.

Tell that 150k a week
Which he'll get anyway later. He'll sign a new contract, get a nice signing bonus from Monaco who have loads of money themselves and they get to sell him for more money later on.

They guy plies his trade in Monaco. I'm not sure money is enough to lure him away.

For the money Chelsea will offer him, he'll be able to get a new improved mom.

According to the prince Albert, Mbappé intends to stay at least one more year at Monaco.
