What do you think of Keylor Navas as David De Gea's replacement?

I think he is good and softens the blow, but is he really what we consider to be world class?

from what i saw(and i didnt see much), he is rang below world class as he can't catch the ball even if his life depended on it, not my type of gk but he is brilliant and i love that he is part of this transfer.

I can't really remember but anyone who's hated that much by the cules can only be worshipped by us.
They still hated his guts..this made me laugh:

Refused him to play for the Barca Legends in their game this year before the UCL final..now thats real hate..But I'm not sure that DDG will be hated as much by the Atletico fans..he has been gone for that long.

18 million quid for De Gea plus Navas is annoying. How good is Navas? Can't say I've seen him play that much but surely we should be aiming a bit higher.
The most common view I heard for most of the summer was if real don't get de gea now they can wait and sign him on a free because Navas is quality and more than capable of doing a decent job for madrid this year... On that basis he can probably do a decent job for us as well
... As long as he can figure out the philosophy

Under the circumstances he is a very good replacement for DDG. I guess many on here will be pleasantly surprised by his ability. If he is decisive on crosses or improves his decision making with time, when to come for the ball and when to stay back he can be a very good asset for us.

A like for like replacement was never gonna happen. Navas is a really good keeper and I think our keeper "problem" will be sorted now.

I watch most of Real Madrid's games and think he is a very good keeper. He saved a penalty on Saturday. He would have saved both goals yesterday, as would De Gea of course.

It's probably the best situation we could hope for. His age isn't particularly relevant, he is a keeper after all. Could go on for another 10 years at the top level. MASSIVE fecking upgrade on Romero at the very least.

If it doesn't work out > Leno next summer.

It's a tough situation for him to be in, he's been used as a make weight in the DDG deal and now finds himself on his way to Manchester. Which for us Mancs is not a bad thing but for him it can't be easy.

Shame LVG had to fall out with Valdes.

Go take a peek at the Valdes thread if you haven't had enough mentalness for one day.

there should be a "thank feck it's not Cillessen" in the poll as an option.
I think Cillessen could still be a target, we can go to Ajax and not be desperate to buy him as we have Navas as first choice if he doesn't arrive.

He's not good enough to be our #1, tends to always punch the ball even on shots with less pace, also he's a bit short and will have trouble with the physicality of the Prem.

On the other hand he's miles better than Romero and an excellent #2.

The 2 things that leave me a lot of room for concern with Navas are 1) short stature, and 2) his consistent punching of the ball instead of catching the damn thing. In Spain, they play that ball on the ground. But in England, he better be prepared for the aerial blitzkrieg coming his way.

Hoek will get him into shape in no time and have commanding the area and catching the ball. He's also 6ft1 and not that small in stature.

Positive approach to him punching is that it leads to us playing faster counter attacking football due to his fantastic distribution by fist.

He's better than Romero so we have to be thankful of that. He's also very highly rated by LVG. The story goes that LVG wasn't keen to give DDG a new contract last year because he wasn't convinced by him and wanted to try and get Navas. So from that point of view LVG will be happy. I just don't think he will cope very well with the physical demands. Plus he really didn't want to leave.

He's a very good goalkeeper. He's David De Gea-esque in the sense that he makes some saves which he has absolutely no right to. Top reflexes.

I'd be quite happy with him, he's in the right hands with Hoek.

What do people make of his distribution?

Is he definitely better than Romero or is this slightly wishful thinking? I've no idea.

Going to be the most insincere 'I'm happy to join Manchester United' speech ever when this becomes official

Someone posted a poll where 80%+ of Madrid fans thought they'd got the worse deal. Obviously, this is probably because they don't watch much PL football. It also shows that Navas is a quality player and we shouldn't listen to the opinions of people who don't watch much La Liga.

So after all that it seems like he's not coming anyway? The paperwork never got through in time... Mind you this is Real Madrid. They are more powerful than the Spanish FA so they will find a way.

It would be so sweet if this went through and De Gea is staying.

Not for United it wouldn't. You'd not be able to rely on de Gea performing for you, you'd lose him for no money next summer (at the latest) and meanwhile be stuck paying the wages for a bloated roster of GKs, none of whom would be happy bunnies.

Why would you think that we actually care about 29m? We've cut more than that in our wage bill this summer.

People need to relax. Keylor is still coming and De Gea is still going. Madrid are taking it to UEFA and United are backing them up according to James Ducker and Daniel Taylor. UEFA won't fight both Madrid and Man Utd.

To be honest I feel bad about Keylor in this whole saga. He got kicked from Madrid, only to finally convince himself that he wants to come here only to see that he might not go? :( How do you even return to play after something like this? Real Madrid literally kicked him out.
