Mata + 10m would be a great deal for us.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love it, but it's not even realistic, if anything it should be Roo + £10 mil = Mata IMO
Can someone get on the blower to Chelsea, stick on a Glaswegian accent, and accept that fecking Rooney bid?
Mata won't be pleased though will he? Robinho threw a fit when Real tried to use him in a deal for Ronaldo
My impression is that Moyes will hustle to get more money, and Roman will pay. He doesn't want to be the guy that sold one of Manchester United's main players for almost a decade, not to mention THE English Football Icon. So of course he'll play hard ball.
Jesus... even Damien's gone into muppet mode!
Crazy, crazy offer if true. If we can get Mata and somehow get Fabregas too by putting the £25M we offered, plus the £10M from Rooney/Mata and another £5M or so on top of that, it'd be a good summer.
Carrick FabregasNani* Kagawa MataRVP*If it is true that he could be staying.
We still would need another signing or two but that would be a great front six.
This makes no sense to me on United's part at all.
Rooney has been hit and miss for a long time and his heart os not in it. Mata is a world class player who does the business consistantly.
We should be jumping at this offer and plouging that additional £10m into doing all we can to get Fabregas. We would have a far stronger squad with Mata and Febregas than we currently have with an unhappy Rooney and a weak midfield.
I don't think we 'need' Mata TBH. I mean he's an excellent player but he'd be a luxary. Rather get a load of cash and spunk it on midfielders.
He'd be a grand replacement for Rooney in that he can play behind the striker. I realise we have Kagawa for this, but he can't be our only option there.

A rejuvenated Rooney at Chelsea could land them the title even though rooneys high standards at utd dropped last season....I don't think we need mata all that much...would hamper the progress of zaha and with nani staying and having welbeck too for the right then we again would have too many players for one position and not sufficient cover for other positions....van ginkel is the player we would want from them but that won't happen....maybe if they threw lampard into the mix with mata then it could appeal
we swap an English football icon with another English icon
Leighton Baines

In an ideal world, Rooney would get his head in check and come back to play for United and give 100% but exchanging him with Mata + money can be great.
I'm worried to see Chelsea with Rooney up front, I mean a change of scenery might be the thing for him to get back at his best and there aren't many better players in the league when he is just that.
I saw a good post elsewhere which reminded us that before signing a player, usually scouts have compiled lots of research on the player to find out how they'd fit into the team, to find out what sort of player they are and what sort of game they have etc. With this offer, I'm going to assume we probably haven't really been looking at Mata a lot.
Now, we know he's a world class player. That's obvious for anyone to see and I'm sure Moyes knows he's a world class player as well. I wouldn't blame him though if he was hesitant at just accepting the offer right away when what he's seen of Mata is limited to matches against him, matches he's watched without focusing on Mata and highlights. On paper the offer is brilliant and one we should grab right away, but I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to take a better look at Mata first before making a final decision on a deal like this if Chelsea return with a new offer.
I think they're stupid for offering money + Mata though considering Mata is easily worth as much as Rooney is in today's market, if not more than him.
Like Torres, he needed a change of scenery too.
I get your point, it would suck to see Rooney go and play well there but he is more trouble than he is worth for us.
Quite easily, especially considering he is also 3 years younger. I don't understand why we would want to keep Rooney if we know that Mata is coming to replace him and Rooney wanting out of the club as well. It makes no sense this...
Edit: Maybe the club sees the potential financial repercussions of losing the English virtuoso.
It won't have been Mata, it'll be Luiz. It might just come down to Fellaini or Luiz if we do get a midfielder this window. THey'll have rejected it because they'd see losing Rooney as losing a lot of potentially valuable marketing too, as an English player Rooney is more marketable than many possible replacements.
We can pontificate all we like, but it looks like either
a) He's not part of the bid at all - in which case we don't have the option
b) He was and we rejected it outright - which means we don't want him, and our club is run by a collection of retarded panda's.
I think this too. I don't see why they would exchange their best player (was last season anyway) for a player who is 3 years older.
Mourinho isn't stupid, Mata is a world class player and for him to get rid of him against his biggest rivals - that just doesn't make sense at all.
