Juan Mata

A rejuvenated Rooney at Chelsea would land them the title i reckon even though rooneys high standards at utd dropped last season....I don't think we need mata all that much...would hamper the progress of zaha and with nani staying and having welbeck too for the right then we again would have too many players for one position and not sufficient cover for other positions....van ginkel is the player we would want from them but that won't happen....maybe if they threw lampard into the mix with mata then it could appeal

Nani will probably leave too. Even if he does stay, we do lack quality on the flanks. Valencia, Young and Zaha are hardly world beaters.

There’s no point in keeping an unhappy player especially when time is not at our side (Rooney’s contract will end in two years time). By putting Mata in the deal we will be bringing a quality player who will do well at OT. We will also avoid being held on ransom by ruthless clubs who would ask ridiculous fees for their own players

Cider for some reason has deleted his post but I thought it made perfect sense.

I think this too. I don't see why they would exchange their best player (was last season anyway) for a player who is 3 years older.

Mourinho isn't stupid, Mata is a world class player and for him to get rid of him against his biggest rivals - that just doesn't make sense at all.

Maybe Mata doesnt fit in Mourinho's plan?

It's a tricky one as Rooney on form would be lethal for Chelsea, but looking at the way Mata was playing last season and the way Rooney was playing, right now I know who I would prefer. Plus Rooney is a cnut, Mata is a sexy Spaniard.

Yep. What Chelsea need most is a world class striker, and their options are running out on who to get. Mourinho has liked Rooney for a while, and it's probably the same vice versa. Rooney there would be firing on all cylinders, I'm sure.

I saw a good post elsewhere which reminded us that before signing a player, usually scouts have compiled lots of research on the player to find out how they'd fit into the team, to find out what sort of player they are and what sort of game they have etc. With this offer, I'm going to assume we probably haven't really been looking at Mata a lot.

Now, we know he's a world class player. That's obvious for anyone to see and I'm sure Moyes knows he's a world class player as well. I wouldn't blame him though if he was hesitant at just accepting the offer right away when what he's seen of Mata is limited to matches against him, matches he's watched without focusing on Mata and highlights. On paper the offer is brilliant and one we should grab right away, but I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to take a better look at Mata first before making a final decision on a deal like this if Chelsea return with a new offer.

I think they're stupid for offering money + Mata though considering Mata is easily worth as much as Rooney is in today's market, if not more than him.

So, Moyes & The Equalizer are gonna be jumpin on youtube then checkin out Mata - like the rest of us always do when we're linked to a player?! :)

Losing Rooney to a PL rival would be pretty bad - but Mata would surely easen the blow

It could just be that we rejected it because we thought Rooney for them would be more of a gain then mata for us. He'd massively improve them if he can go back to his best, whereas mata would improve us but not as much as Rooney replacing Torres or ba. If Chelsea come back with an improved offer and mata is there, we should accept it. He's as good a replacement as its possible to get IMO.

I suspect United (and every other top club) might have had a look a Mata before he moved to Chelsea.

Except that Torres was already fecked up mentally and had niggling injuries before he even joined Chelsea. There is this false assumption that he turned shit over there whereas he was on already on a downhill at Liverpool.
Rooney is fitter than Torres and has done better in this last season than Torres has for LFC. Plus Mourinho is top coach for motivating players.

Exactly man. Torres was pretty poor in his last 18 months or so at Liverpool..

I don't really fancy Mata as a player in our team, but taking into account his age and market value, you'd surely have to take the deal.

Yup me too.

He also hasn't written an official transfer request till now. If he does that then he'll 100% get sold this summer.

But hey we got Ashley Young, yipes. If they really made this offer and we are rejecting, I would consider that Mata has done something to Glazer family.

Mata would be a great option for me if Rooney did leave, can easily slot in as part of a three of himself, Kagawa and either Valencia or Nani behind RVP.

Again, is there actually anything concrete regarding this rumour? I've never known a summer whereby so many people have taken rumours to be absolute facts.

BBC and the Press Association, plus every other media source in England.

Seems to be yet another very deliberate leak from someone.

We have replaced our trusted staff with nincompoops from Everton.

And slowly and slowly we are turning like one of 'Arry's team. Every player we are in for, the news is out in public.

I think its most likely that Mourinho wants the Chelsea team to be more solid and decided to choose between Hazard, Oscar and Mata for 2 starter spots. Could always have one on the bench but perhaps he feels its unnecessary

It would make total sense for Chelsea to leak it, they want Rooney to know to try and unsettle him.

It'll be someone in the car park. Probably Steve Round leaning out of the window of his company Chevy.

I'm just not sure I can see us being able to use Mata and Kagawa in the same team. Mata is a fantastic player and I would love us to sign him, I just don't see how it would work. Rooney would be an almost guaranteed success/improvement for Chelsea but we'd be taking a big risk in trying to put a team together that is cohesive.

Please tell me you are not bloody serious.

We have no idea if any of these 'leaks' have come from United and it's not as if we never knew of any potential transfers under SAF until the player turned up at a press conference.

Young is English and every bit as good as Mata.

Not really.

Relax. I wasn't.

With all the muppetry going on around, I thought I will have some fun as well.

I'm going to try and apply some sort of logic to this. I reckon Chelsea might have offered Luiz and United said we will take Mata. I'm desperately trying to believe we aren't stupid enough to offer Mata.
