Jeremy Corbyn - Not Not Labour Party(?), not a Communist (BBC)

This Epstein mess combined with Riley's unabashed mentalism finally getting a bit of mainstream attention feels like a tipping point of sorts regarding the absurdity of a lot of this antisemitism lark.

Rachel Riley is losing it. Why would you photoshop out an anti apartheid message?

What a nutter. Katie Hopkins level.

Edit: apparently she lost it long ago. Who knew!

Yeah she's been a loon for some time. Perfect example of what spending too much time on social media can do to a person.

I followed her for years because she looks good in a dress, but I've had to unfollow her because she has become absolutely rabid in her hatred for Corbyn.

Without wanting to sound like a Daily Mail comments section dick head, it's entirely possible that due to the fact she's heavily pregnant she might be a little more extreme in her thoughts at the moment.

She's been like this for years, pregnancy has nothing to do with it.

Hopefully her antics are picked up by mainstream media, because her islamphobia & racism has been disgusting to witness.

"It's pronounced 'Fronkensteen..."
Sedagive me a break, this nonsense.

Knowing Rachel Riley is a lunatic makes her strangely hotter. Maybe I should make my move. I still have my hood after all...

She has but she's definitely been worse lately.

I do wonder where her employers stand on it all though. Tricky spot for them to be in. On the one hand she has every right to air her political opinion and genuine concerns on antisemitism but some of this latest stuff is not a good look (for her or them).

I won't hold my breath that her employers will do anything about it, this too will be forgotten.

Imagine if these offended celebrities had to be black, or Eastern European or Muslim for a day. Seems any old attempt to throw anti semitic mud at JC by certain elements within society. It's definitely not Jewish people though - loads of Jewish people support JC, you only have to look on twitter to see.

My very Pakistani name is pronounced in an anglicized way, it always has been because the English language doesn't pronounce letters in the same way the Urdu alphabet does, so when my name is pronounced by English people, they pronounce it as they read it or understand it according to their understanding of language. I've gotten used to it. if someone tried to pronounce it correctly, it wouldn't offend me. It might surprise me because it seems the only person who pronounce it correctly are Pakistani people but offend? No.

This antisemitism storm just seems so far away from anything in my daily life. I almost feel guilty for struggling to comprehend the situation. It’s everywhere and I’m just looking at it like bro wtf
I'm the exact same. I don't understand it one bit.

If I'm honest, all I know of is the Israel/Palestine situation and given the strong opinions of both sides, I don't have an opinion on the matter nor do I want to research it and have one.

Didn't know this. Don't follow her. I have only went her on TV and the United end of the season dinner.

Her one stance is to stand up against antisemitism, which is obviously a noble perspective.
The problem is that in doing so, she doesn't care if she's racist against other ethnic minorities - also she only calls out antisemitism when it's to do with Labour or Corbyn, so you have to question exactly what her motives are too.

Yep, similar with my Ghanaian name - and I personally know dozens of people who have shortened their name, or changed it completely just to assimilate in a society where the majority are likely to mispronounce it.

Did she mention the 16 year old Nazi who was planning on bombing synagogues?

I thought that would be bigger news but all I've seen on twitter is people criticising Corbyn's pronunciation.

Wait what? This is the first i'm hearing of it.
This is the problem with the antisemitism issue, especially as someone who isn't affected by it, where can you even go to find impartiality on the subject?

Im happy to give benefit of the doubt. But she's got form apparently. This predates the pregnancy!

We actually talking about this over the manifesto? Tory spin-doctors don't get paid enough!

The idea is that Corbyn used the Jewish pronunciation instead of the common Anglicised pronunciation to other him and let him belong to the Jews because he's a notorious sex offender. That it was subtle code and a dog whistle to antisemites.

We all know the underlying argument but it doesn't make this particular smear any less absurd.

Not the poster I was replying to as they seemed to think it was simply and issue of incorrect pronunciation causing offence.

I don't think its that much more far fetched than any other type of subtle racism and coded messages that people highlight on this forum. I think the only distinction is that its Corbyn who is being accused and we always give him the benefit of the doubt because he seems so bloody cuddly.

In your opinion, is his pronunciation of Epstein antisemitic?

I wonder how Hitler pronounced Jewish surnames... probably in a similar fashion to Corbyn. Can't believe that it's only been 74 years since the end of WW2 and the Holocaust and we could be about to elect an anti-Semite who pronounces names badly as our Prime Minister.

added white text to make clear that this is sarcasm

I don't think there'd be any debate on here that it was coded antisemitism or not if someone like Richard Spencer was doing it. That's my point. A lot of Jewish people see Corbyn as antisemitic and/or soft on it because so many of his political faction have inclinations towards it.

Not sure that's an apt comparison - Spencer's very objective in life is white supremacy so of course it's easy to believe he would engage in coded racism, or any racism.
The question is whether you believe pronouncing Epstein in the manner he did was antisemitic or not?

That isn't the question though. The question is if you think Corbyn is antisemitic or not. If you do then it's perfectly understandable as to why you would interpret that as coded antisemitism. The idea that it could be coded antisemitism is not a fanciful one. It depends in what context you see the speaker in.
