Israel - Palestine Discussion | Post Respectfully | Discuss more, tweet less

A friend called into school and questioned about how his kid knows about Palestine. Referral to PREVENT on the cards.

A recording out on 2 teachers chastising a kid at Oulder Hill school in Rochdale.

Kids being accused if racism for saying free Palestine.

The Muslim community needs to take a stand. We need a communal fund to hire the best legal resources possible to fight on behalf of anyone the government trying to terrorise using PREVENT.

Yes I agree. Apart from this current Palestine issue the referrals or threat of referrals and even some of what goes on in schools is ludicrous.

I was involved in a case recently where a primary school girl had come home crying because her teacher had been "picking on her" as she put it.

As it turns out this girl had gone into school with a head covering on. She never normally wore on just did as it was something she had got for some other reason and decided to wear it.

She was 4 years old and subjected to an hour of questions. Including is your dad forcing you to wear this.

I kid you not the teacher went down the "well with prevent guidelines..."

Shiiiet. Brainwashing started everywhere. I better talk to my kids and explain BOTH sides.

That’s the biggest problem with PREVENT; that as much as teachers are trained in it, their unconscious bias rears its ugly racist head. Far too many just see it a way root out perceived Islamic extremism.
It’s not fit for purpose and seeks to just demonise Muslims

The real pity is I had this idea in 2004, when we were being demonised post 911. Remember discussing it with friends at uni and we all agreed we needed a fund to help challenge government persecution and media misrepresentation. Nearly 20 years on and people like me are still talking about it. I don't even know how i'd go about making it a reality.

My background includes setting up forae and organisations and helping identify funding etc.

The problem is that with your suggestions there are too many obstacles. The main one being signatories to the Prevent agenda (REC, teachers, Muslim groups etc). You will be deterred and put off from the start. The only way would be to join pre existing organisations who have this as part of their agenda or constitution, however like we saw with BLM any sniff of being part of say cage etc will bring negative attention from the off.

It's not impossible but you have to be prepared to get some investigations into your organisation before you even start. From what I've witnessed in the past it can be a big deterrent.

No one see anything wrong with Palestinian children DYING and Israeli children KILLED?

People speak of social media bias depending on sides. But this is the BBC and mainstream news and media using different words

Can supporters of Israel please justify why the IDF shot a 16 year old girl in her own home? It was caught on CCTV.

I think it's wrong to use any kind of violence against people who are clearly not being violent. That's one.

But two is, the report clearly says rubber bullets were fired which has been distorted by you and others.

It's already bad enough why go out of your way to make it worse?

Didn't you see the news today that Israel along with Saudi Arabia and USA ( under Trump) was going to take some land from Jordan ( without their knowledge of course) and when Trump lost, tried to get rid of King Abdulla early this year.
It's only because Biden won that the US informed Jordan what was going on.
Hypocrites the whole lot of the rulers in the middle East. I won't be surprised that the British government is also involved in this somehow.

I agree here, she should write the guy that shot her a thank you note for using rubber bullets and maybe send him a box of chocolates in the mail.

Referring to Arab babies as snakes... Beyond the pale

You do know that the bullets aren't actually made of rubber, don't you? It's the same bullets that are in conventional guns but just coated in rubber. They are designed to maim rather than kill.

Is that actually acceptable to you?

You genuinely can't read or you just prefer to be dramatic for no reason?

She was shot and has spinal injuries. Does it matter that they shot her in the back with a rubber coated bullet or not?

I said she was shot - wash she not shot?

No...she attacked the rubber coated bullet with her spine. Disgusting anti-semite that she is.

Wow, the length people with no sympathy can go to normalise shooting a 14 year old in the back in her own house witha rubber bullet.

Given his background, if he's going to do social commentary he should at least be a bit creative or witty about it. Otherwise, why go to a comedy show to get your social commentary ?

This was answered 15 years ago and the answer still remains the same. It's not to get some rip-roaring jokes or even see uber-creativity. The answer is because the entities that are supposed to be responsible about social commentary are failing the public. This is even more true when people constantly go to Twitter to get their hot take in 172 characters (or whatever it is). You see it here when people just link one-liners from Twitter as if its some meaningful insight and mock long posts. It's a sad state of affairs but Jon Stewart was 100% superior to all the active cable news commentators on most social and political issues and his vehicle was comedy. We could use a lot more Atlantic Monthly readers and less Twitter repeaters in today's society.

If CNN, MSNBC and the rest (not even counting pure propaganda like Fox and Newsmax in this) got their act together, then there wouldn't be a need to turn to comedians but sadly they never learned their lesson from the above.

That’s a brilliant post

“We must confront the fact that the country has not valued education, which is the only way to prevent Jewish women from forging life connections with non-Jews. The struggle against assimilation only reaches headlines through stories about Jewish women marrying Muslim men, but it is important to remember that the phenomenon is much wider – 92,000 mixed families live in the State of Israel. There is a need to create a curriculum for girls in high schools that deals with Jewish identity. The fact that girls reach a state of intermarriage testifies to the fact that the education system was absent.”

I dont want to draw the obvious parallel, but it sure sounds strikingly familiar.

It was on The Guardian yesterday. The main reason why The Saudis and The Emiratis are suddenly showing a friendly face to Abdullah is that the Americans busted them to Jordanian authorities in February. If Trump had won the election Jordan would have lost territories and also Abdullah would be deposed by his half brother.

What was the plan? Take a strip of land east of the river Jordan and dump all the gazans there?

Yes move The Palestinians there and take the custody of the Magid Al Aqsa and The Dome from Jordan and give it to The Saudis. The Emiratis were given the F-35s. The fact that Biden won was what saved Jordan. It was all decided between MBS and Jared Kuschner. When Biden won that route was blocked to The Saudis so they tried to implement the sedition inside Jordan. A former Finance Minister was also involved. Guardian says they have heard recorded telephone conversations about this. MBS seems to have his finger prints on all the trouble in the `Middle East at least.
