His turnaround has been fantastic. Really pleased for him as some of the abuse he was getting was ridiculous.

Not true though, right? Let’s just say we trigger his one-year extension option before next summer, he’s still going to be 33 by the time he’s “free” to look for a new club. What club would realistically give someone that age a long and big contract anymore? If anything, he should expect a big drop off in pay and prestige for his next (aka last) comtract.

I think his best bet is to using the rest of this season to prove he fits Amorim’s system in every way he can, so that he can get some sort of extension beyond his current contract with us, likely at somewhat lower wage (who knows how it works). If he performs well, I think this is a good option for us in the short term, too, as we may need to reinforce elsewhere in the squad.

All that said, I think the most likely scenario here is for him to stay on the current contract until end of 2025/2026 season and leave for free then.

Maguire would be 32 before end of the season no club would offer him a long contract and if we have any sense we wouldn't either .

And I don't think we are getting any fee for him either as he is out of contract in summer and if we take the year extension then chances are he stays and leave as free agent in 2026-27 .

I get those who want to cash in now. Not for me, though.

He's good on the ball, is an asset in terms of the physicality of the league, is fine with being a squad option, and his mentality is incredible.

As a squad option, we can't ask for more. There are soooooo many players who need to leave before him as he can still positively contribute here.

It depends on how we play it. If we don't want to offer him a contract extension then we'll trigger his one year and tell him to politely find a club. Perhaps that could interest an Everton or West Ham and we get a fee where they will offer him a 3+1 or 4 year contract. Or he'll call our bluff and will run out his contract.

I'm not against him staying purely based on his ability but I feel these are the type of situations are where a good club/structure can potentially get a 'better' deal out of it and hence why I referenced the AWB situation where we got a fee, a player presumably on lower wages and a better player. However, it may be a bridge too far considering our FFP situation, Maguire's wages and the other potential outgoings/replacements.

Good performance and dealt with Haaland, performed well with our defence.

That said, time to move on for someone strong as him but also mobile. He has limitations in his game which won’t help us.

He played well as the central centerback in the 3-4-3 system. In fact, he generally excels in a back three, which I believe Southgate favoured during his time managing England. It helps to mask his deficiencies (struggles against fast forwards) and gives him more passing options. A good lad and has a role to play for us still.

Our younger players should definately learn from Harry's mentality.
In some ways I think losing the armband did him a world of good. If he is happy with a contract on reduced wages I wouldnt mind giving him a new one.

I forgot to post here back then but he was fantastic against City. Dominated Haaland and any other threat that came his way.

He could be one of the big beneficiaries of the three at the back system as long as he doesn’t allow that sloppiness and loss of concentration to return.

I’d cash in on him. Now is the perfect time to get some of that money back.

Man Utd 0:3 Bournemouth New
He's not as shit as many of us thought he was but its time for him to go. He's on silly salary and he won't be there by the time the next rebuild starts bearing its first fruit.

Sell, sell, sell…..he stock is on the rise in the media (albeit premature for me) so get what we can for him now. He’s not good enough for what we need.

"Arry did well in a game where we had to defend deeper and he had a big striker to deal with but is poor as soon there is a more open game where he has to do more on the ball and defend spaces....Hey, it's the same Maguire as has been for the last 5 seasons...Maguire's redemption indeed.

Today showed why you can’t extend his contract on the current terms. He’s not the awful player he was made out to be at times but he’s also seen his reputation grow by not playing as much. He’s a pretty ordinary and limited defender, same as he has always been.

I’d give him a 2.5 year contract on reduced terms - otherwise yeah, see you later Harold

Oaf like performance, loads of fouls, bad passes and some horrible bouncy passes between him and Onana that put everyone on edge

Not half as good as De Ligt, unfortunately. I think his time is at an end here.

Still better than De Ligt though.. or so we've been told.

Maguire has a better long cross pass towards the left wing and might be slighty better at getting his head in front of the ball (but not better at aiming where the ball goes after hitting his head) than de Ligt. Other aspects, de Ligt is the superior player. De Ligt is also much younger and was much cheaper, i really dont understand why some would prefer Maguire over de Ligt. The only thing i can think off is English bias and the fact that de Ligt is an ETH purchase.

That's his go to pass.

Dreadful today, no way he should still be at the club, but yet we've been hear with people saying he should get a new deal...

He’s just not good enough. Even if he’s been decent his last few outings he is a big symbol of the failures we’ve had recent years.

We need to move on from him. If our board wants to learn something from the past and make some sort of reset, we need to stop rewarding players new contracts based on purple patches/one decent year without being oblivious to the past.

His and Lindelofs wages should be invested into a new centre back.

Do fear we will renew his contract though.

This, unfortunately. He isn’t a calamity but he’s also a midtable player. If we want to rise beyond midtable, we need better players than him. Sell while the redemption arc is still a thing.

By march he'll be 32 which means that the contract would take him to 34-35. Are we planning to learn from the casemiro mess?

I'm not inclined to watch the replay highlights but I don't think Harry had a hand in either of the first two goals we conceded. Possibly the third, but it was almost all on Martinez for the third goal. The broader discussion of whether Harry belongs at Old Trafford is one thing, but he wasn't our problem tonight. The squad as a whole was tragic, but the defensive collapses had more to do with Zirkzee on the first goal, Maz for the pen, and Martinez for the knockout blow. And Malacia for being an abomination on the left and Dalot not a whole lot better on the right.

It was a classic bad Maguire performance, nobody should be under any illusion that these limitations will always be part of his game. But it doesn't take away the fact that he's otherwise been very good this season - and longer - and can still be valuable as a backup CB. This performance alone shouldn't be used to write him off for contract extension.
