It's very admirable how he has come back from the abyss, so to speak, but we need to move on from him.
Pretty much my feeling. He turned around what seemed the impossible but doesn't hide the fact that he shouldn't be given a new contract.

Absolutely. I'm expecting us at the very least to exercise the option though. I wouldn't personally but that's just my view. It's very admirable how he has come back from the abyss, so to speak, but we need to move on from him.
Casuals once again exposing their complete lack of football knowledge. The Maguire thread is always one of the go-to threads for this purpose.
But I guess if you claimed Martínez was "far and above him" just 4 months ago and laughed at me for basically claiming the opposite, maybe you're reluctant not to push certain agendas.
I think he was one of the very few who was attempting forward passes to Amad.I thought he was ok. Tried at least and you saw it.
Come on Rojo, you are the king of agendas, being on favor or against a certain player
Those aren't agendas for me. If I'm proven wrong I'll gladly admit it. I think Maguire is one of the most suited players out there for this CCB position in Amorim's system and I believe he's one of the most underrated players in the last decade, considering the general opinion on him. I'll keep fighting the horde regarding Maguire.
He's a decent backup for De Ligt but should remain as backup whenever De Ligt is fit.

Obsessions??
I don't get the love in for De Ligt personally. Found him to be really underwhelming.Agree with this, he regularly looks for forward passes, De Ligt on the other hand far too often looks to pass sideways or backwards.
De Ligt is no better than Maguire, and the only reason anyone can be saying so must surely only be based on his performances for Ajax or just the fact he's new and so still carrying some of that new signing magic..
De Ligt has simply always been a better footballer than Maguire and it's been true this season too.De Ligt is no better than Maguire, and the only reason anyone can be saying so must surely only be based on his performances for Ajax or just the fact he's new and so still carrying some of that new signing magic..

His development hasn't gone anywhere since his Golden Boy days at Ajax. It has arguably deteriorated at this point.
Can you tell me what's de Ligt been better at than Maguire, especially considering you think he's always been better? Is it FIFA ratings and FM stats?
It has?
I've found him to be quite a tame cb.
His positioning for Isak's goal was perfectly fine, if you want our defenders to have contact with the attacker when the crosses come into the box you will complain when they get in front of the defender and have a clear header on goal. If that cross doesn't get deflected Maguire is in total control, there's no way Isak gets in front to meet the cross and if the ball goes over Maguire then it would be out of reach for Isak as well.I hope that we are not THAT stupid and will give him a new contract. He can't even defend crosses in which he was only good at.
What does de Ligt even have over Maguire?
The latter is miles ahead of him in the build-up (progressive passing, ball carrying, providing calmness in the build-up (which is funnily enough often seen as a negative thing by posters who want him not to take a lot of time on the ball) ), is a lot more dominant in the air, and is much better at pinning down opposition attackers and agressively intercepting opposition passes by stepping into the midfield at times.
They're both relatively slow and as a result, cannot defend the wide channels against any pacey attacker, and maybe I'll give de Ligt the edge if we compare their mobility. But what else?
Maguire seems to clearly be the superior profile of the two, despite the similarities.
He may have played at CCB on occasions but you're right, the first choice back 3 was Walker at RCB, Stones CCB and Maguire LCB.When he played as a three for England wasn't he the left sided one? I'm sure he wasn't central and the left side allowed him to charge forward with the ball without the risk of being fully exposed. Surprising we are having him in the middle
Maguire is just as bad as he ever was, now the whole team have caught up with him.
