Has to be one of the slowest centre backs I've seen at Utd in my lifetime
Can't even remember Blanc having reactions as slow

Honestly now.

How the feck does one goes to say that?!

Did you watch any games we played this season?

He's utter shit. He's beyond shit. He's probably the worst CB in the top 10 teams.

Phil Jones is ten times the CB then this squareheaded lump of bones.
Yes I watched De Gea bail us out in games against Wolves, Villa and Brentford just recently when he wasn't on the pitch. Keep believing our woes are down to one man though.

He's a horrible player. There's not one thing he does well. Disgusting that he's captain of this great club. He gets bullied against every attacker he plays against.

Lindelof is a far better player. Its not up for discussion anymore.

Harry Maguire is fecking slow. Get used to it. That's how he has always been. We didn't buy a pacy defender and he immediately turned shite after we signed him. This is what he is. His partners are leaving him to dry by asking him to defend 1:1 against pacy forwards.

I know 80m is used against as an argument but thats not his problem. That just shows we are severely incompetent and has no idea what Maguire brings to the game.

Better to sell him or give right partners to make the best out of him. Please don't expect him.to become VVd suddenly because he wont.

He was okay today. That clip is funny but he recovered after that and didn't give a sniff to Borja.

Well , he was better than Varane which no one would talk as he is the new shiny toy .

He wasn't better than Varane. I was at the game and maguire literally only won one header against Adams whilst varane won every single header. Varane was good in possession whilst maguire kept giving hospital passes. Varane got turned 1 time maguire got done 4/5 timea

Why is over at right back anyway? Where's Varane? Where's Dalot?
Pressing.
He was tasked to be the last line defender. Tactical they all did their job. Broja had no support completely isolated alone up front. Maguire was meet him 1 vs 1, slow him down, and then he would received plenty of support of our players.

The issue is Maguire can't defend. At the end of this sequence of play, even after we tactically contained Southampton and saved Maguire ass, Maguire clumsily stepped on Broja which could have been an issue another day. We saw stupid thing given by VAR before.

Gets turned multiple times every single game. Rangnick says that he backs Maguire to get back into top form. Well, guess what, the best players don’t take half a season of mediocrity to get back into top form. He is what he is: slow on the turn, slow on anticipation. Against teams that have the pace to run in behind a high line, he will get skinned. Might be good for teams who spend most of their time in a low block, but should be nowhere near a team wanting to dominate high up the pitch.

Anyone who says he was better than Varane is either blind or blinded by bias. The number of times he got caught on the halfway line unsuccessfully trying to press high. Happens numerous times every game.

And he's better than Lindelof and the others. He wasn't at fault for the goal today. Varane was.
BS.

Varane had a Southampton player running with the ball at his position. He had to hold his position, and engaged if that Southampton player committed with his dribbling. Even under this circumstances, Varane glance over his shoulder to check on Adam position. Adam was so behind Varane, which in normal circumstances, anyone in Varane position can be comfortable that Adam should be offside. But here we are with a defense that has a long history of not knowing how to use offside trap.

Surely Newcastle might bite if we make him available? Would be decent for them until they get decent.

Been to the game. He makes my blood boil. Should never be captain of united. Loads of discourse vented at him from the stands. Lacks urgency and pace. Lack of pace on the ball when passing it. Poor from set pieces and for such a big lad actually weak.

I noticed this a bit more today. Fans are starting to turn on him a bit. But he just looks like he lacks confidence in his own ability at times and it leads to him being indecisive. Annoys me how slow he is with the ball though; no urgency in his play.

This is very clear. It's clearly getting to him and making him even more insecure. He has a severe case of imposter syndrome. Problem is the whole world has already realized he's an imposter.

The captain on Manchester United is seen by opposition as a weak link and target which sums the club up really. Simply not good enough but he’s gonna be part of the group that stick around for years stinking up the place.
With that gormless grin on his face too as per his above profile pic.

His performances are generally getting me down
He needs to be taken out of that starting 11 he’s fecking rubbish

He's always like this. The issue we had previously for example is that Smalling was not co for table with possession. Maguire comfortable with possession was upgrade in this department. Shaw is similar to a lesser extend.

The issue we have now is, Maguire likes to take multiple touch, and it takes ages for him to release a pass. Now we want to raise tempo, taking less touch, and release the ball faster, which makes Maguire much less comfortably. He seems slow on reading the obvious play, so don't even expect pre-mediated first time quick pass.

Also worrying that the scouts missed his weaknesses, if that was the case. Would be worse if the Ole and co saw the scouting reports and went against it. I don't understand how a club can make a mistake this big, for me it's nothing short of a disaster.
I think Ole has his own scout who personally recommend players to him and can veto our scouting department. Goes by the name of Simon Wells. A total fraudster dirtbag if he was the one who recommended us to buy Maguire. Remnants of mates fc. If he is still in the club he needs to be fired asap

Yeah, did it this game towards the halfway line. Went in like a rocket, got skinned, then waddled back. Absolute nightmare.
Today, from memory, he had 2 or 3 Saints players around the ball when he did it, so it made even less sense. I used to think he did it to take the initiative but now I just think it's a fundamental flaw. It's stuff like that which leads to us presenting teams with opportunities and will be punished even more against better sides.

Hope for your own sake you are joking. Maguire has been our worst CB this season. Jones played better than him in his first game for ages says it all

He does it when his own teammates has it covered, as well. He seems to think he must get involved and show to be doing something. He appears to have a fundamental misunderstanding of what being a captain actually means. Obviously.

The same game Wolves had 19 shots on our goal and Jones headed it to Moutinho to score (I wonder what the reaction would have been if that was Maguire)?

Our defence is exposed no matter who plays. Defending is done as a team. We're microanalysing one player in defence while the whole midfield and attack in particular are performing terribly week in week out.

@SadlerMUFC - to avoid arguing for the sake of it, could you please just give your opinion on Maguire’s performances? Do you think he is playing well? If the answer is ‘no’, could you explain why after each game you come into his performance thread to pick a fight with anyone criticising his performance?

It seems there are a few posters who do this every game, and then go on to separately concede that they are apparently in agreement that he has been terrible. Which, to me at least, begs the question of what the feck this constant argument is about. I’ve had several arguments with people in the Pogba threads over the years but they stem from them thinking he has been shit and me thinking he hasn’t, in the main. If I agreed with them I would not be constantly arguing with their criticism.

Perhaps you think he is playing well at the moment, if so, then fair enough.

Christ enough with the "need to give him a better partner" please

Well if you want to keep playing him then better give him the right environment. You can't expect him to excel in a 2 man defence with a high line. He isn't a player for that.

Else sell him. Stop trying to convert him to a VVD type player.

May be we can finally invite Moyes back, with his Phil Jagielka videos. He could show them to Maguire.

Everyone going in on him and calling him out. Media, fan channels, pundits. Everyone can see that not only should he not be captain, but he also shouldn't be starting.
Our problem is the board have paid 80m for him and won't want to look stupid having him on the bench.

Maguire had a bad run of form but he has been playing decent as of late. The thing is, if you look for the bad you will find it. Just like if you look for the good you will find it. If you want to see the unbiased rankings of how he played, look at whoscored.com. Harry was a higher rating than Varane today. But that doesn't fit the agenda so we will continue to blame Harry when we can't score more than 1 goal per game. We will also pretend that Lindelof was "playing great" in Harry's absence while we completely ignore the FACT that while harry was out in the month of January, De Gea had to make more saves than any other keeper in the EPL, other than the game against West ham where he only had to make 1 save. That was the only game Harry did play in January. But go on...keep making him the scapegoat...
