I look at him, and although it's always easy to criticize from the side, he just isn't that intelligent, is he? He doesn't read situations well enough at all, in my opinion.

He did look better attacking set pieces, though, and could have had a brace on another day.

That sequence that ended up with him tackling another player in our penalty box (which probably should've been a penalty) was so bad, from start to finish. Just send him on a forced vacation, preferably somewhere a friendly police, he needs a complete reboot if he even has a chance of regaining his previous level. Playing him more just seems to worsen his mental state & performances.

I didn't think he was as disastrous individually as normal, but the whole backline was a shambles today and he was part of that

Should have scored.

Defensively, does anyone have any faith in his ability when it becomes 1v1?

A painfully slow, hyperagressive defender who reads the game terribly.

What an awful combo of attributes to have.

Yeah. The times he lunges into a tackle he's never going to win out wide on halfway... then spends three years turning around like a paddle steamer leaving the opposition to counter attack the massive gap he's left in our defence at their leisure.

He does it once every fecking game.

No because it often leads to the other team scoring.

He is dreadful, needs to be dropped.

He loves pressing high like he is in a back 3 and when the press fails he leaves a huge hole behind

His mentality is a problem as well as his mobility. He's clearly nervous every time he's put on the spot. With each embarrassing bit of defending it only gets worse. That bit on our right side that ended with him arguably conceding a penalty was surreal, looked like a proper idiot.

He's going to be major headache for the next manager. If you take the captaincy from him it's over for him at this club, but if you don't then he has to play and you can never build a team to play a highline with him at the back.

Only solution here is to sell him, but it won't happen. The next manager will come with 'clean slate' BS and Harry will continue to stink it while pundits make excuses for him and then we struggle as a club. Good times all around.

Ralf is insane to keep picking him.

what are you talking about? they are two entirely different situations.. this is football not multiple choice

look if you don't want to explain why you think he shouldn't commit to a challenge there, when everyone else disagrees, that's fine, but stop pissing around it's annoying

Yes, they are two totally different situations and in both, you have no clue what you're talking about

To be fair, that's only on account of him being a proper idiot.

Shame about that header, great save by Forster. People will criticise Maguire again but our bigger problem atm is not being able to score more than 1 goal.

turns like a fecking cruise ship. zero awareness, loves making those brain dead tackles rushing into players and then has that confused look on his face. incredibly irritating. what a robbery by leicester.

In fairness to Maguire, the penalty shout was never a penalty. It was the passage of play just before that which was absolutely horrifying though - Maguire well beaten, and knowing he takes ages to turn and face up his man, decided to dangle a lazy leg out which was nowhere near the ball.

On merit, Lindelof should be starting ahead of him but I doubt Maguire will be dropped by Rangnick especially as he's the captain.

Tbh I thought he was yet again mostly fine. Fewer mistakes than his teammates. A lack of pace will always be his Achilles heel. With regards to that, it's a breakdown in defensive and midfield shape which is really the problem there.

Every team tries to minimise the situations where a central defender is in a one in one situation with a forward running at him. It happens too often at United.

let’s see how many more posts we can do before you answer the question

I've answered several questions. I also saw twice today that McTominay was likely talked to about the goal the other day because as Maguire stepped in, he got goal side and backed him up rather than also try to tackle. But I don't know what i'm talking about right?

Not really. You can win games 1-0 if your defence is solid.
Not scoring more than 1 goal in 10 of 13 games under Rangnick is a problem as well. Take the game against M'boro, we should be winning 3-0 in that game, even their goal had to be disallowed but somehow wasn't.

Also worrying that the scouts missed his weaknesses, if that was the case. Would be worse if the Ole and co saw the scouting reports and went against it. I don't understand how a club can make a mistake this big, for me it's nothing short of a disaster.

Yes of course we should score more to make life easy, but scoring 1 is enough to win a game. If we won the last 3 games 1-0 we'd be right up there.

Seen enough.

Thought he was really good against West Ham the other week and could build form up, but you can't keep picking a player who's shown up so often.

Hopefully we can move him on in the summer.

"but.. but.. but he plays well for England, so he must be class"

screw this stupid line of argument. According to this logic, Baros and those Euro 2004 winners from Greece must be good enough to play for man utd

He can't play in a team that presses aggressively. He's slow and absolutely terrible at adjusting his body to make challenges. Not Utd quality imo, Lindelof should start against Brighton.

His brain needs to be quicker than his body given his body moves like a JCB, that Baba Yaga guy mullered him all game.

Should it have been a pen at the end ?

I think there's a case for one - he kinda just runs into Broja and bundles him off the ball.

Think the refs probably got it right, but yeh I think there's an argument there at least.

oh well it was worth one last try

Another disappointing Maguire performance. I’d like to see Ralf give Lindelof a proper runout. The time has come.

Been to the game. He makes my blood boil. Should never be captain of united. Loads of discourse vented at him from the stands. Lacks urgency and pace. Lack of pace on the ball when passing it. Poor from set pieces and for such a big lad actually weak.
