VVD would struggle on a team with no DM and a keeper who keeps his mouth shut and stands on his line. If you think our defense was bad last year when Maguire played, then you obviously didn't watch the games when he didn't play. In January Maguire only played one game. Vs West Ham. De Gea only had to make one save for the entire match. For the rest of the games in January De Gea had to make more saves than any other keeper in the league and ended up getting the EPL player of the month award. And we didn't play City, LIverpool and Chelsea. We played Villa, Brentford and Wolves. But go on....tell us more about how Maguire is the problem...

The fact that we still defensively struggled without him last year in no way supports that Maguire is good enough as a Man Utd starter.

We struggled defensive without Lee Grant as well, it doesn't mean Lee Grant is good enough as a Man Utd starter.

it is a simple logic.

On the other hands we have tones of records and stats that show that he is never a CB good enough to play for any top clubs with aspiration for title challenge.

we have had seasons with Smalling and conceded less goals. Who was the DM then? We conceded less than 30 in 2 seasons with Jose playing whoever we had. Harry Maguire has one of the worst defensive CV's in club football.

No, it just means we scapegoat him. The real problem isn't Maguire. It's De Gea and the lack of a DM...

So you don't think we need a DM? Yeah, either did Real Madrid when they let Makalele go to Chelsea. And if Harry is as bad as you say then the team must've done better without him right? Afterall, Varane has a great CV so him and Lindelof must've been way better right? Guess again muppet

Why would it mean the team has to do better without him? They are not mutually exclusive. Harry Maguire has objectively one of the worst club CVs in club football. The problem is our other options are not very good. Verane is past it and never available. Lindelof is worse than Maguire. Don't see how this got past you but I guess we are muppets alike. Congrats on brothers wedding Daisy.

If the Barcelona quotes about wanting him were true, why didn't we sell him?

He's the biggest fraud after Paul Pogba to play for this club.

I don't think those rumours had any truth to them.
Never seen more of an anti Xavi defender than Maguire.

Have you watched us play?!

The man is a walking disaster.
Constantly putting us under needless pressure, abandoning his place, chasing shadows to the center line and just blatantly responsible for fecking up most of our goals.

He's as wank as you can get.

So because Maguire played for shite teams that means he's shite. Got it....

Yes I have, and unlike muppets like you, I don't scapegoat and look for reasons to blame Maguire for everything wrong with Manchester United. Amazing how you can blame Maguire for "most of our goals against" yet our defense is far worse when he isn't playing. Mind you I'm sure you still look for a reason to blame him...such a muppet

Muppets? Scapegoating?

He's simply a poor defender.

And he'll never get good at it. Well, maybe not in the Premiership he won't.

He's not smart enough, he's not strong enough and he's simply not skilled enough to play in the Premiership.

He might succeed in Serie A, like most of the crap players who suck at the biggest stage in England.

feck me. Just because fecking Maguire is struggling with this team, it means VVD, one of the best CB in the last decade, would also struggle.

That's why he's spent 7 seasons in the Premier League so far, won players' and fans' player of the season at both Hull and Leicester, instantly stabilised our mess of a defence in the 19/20 season (36 goals conceded from 54 the season before), got even better next season (20/21) and topped that off at the EUROs in 2021. Last season (21/22) he was abysmal, just like almost everyone in the squad in which was our worst PL season EVER.

Not to mention that he's rarely ever been injured, even since he signed for United he's been basically available for almost every single match...since summer 2019. His availability is just as good as Bruno's and it's not talked about enough.

I'm convinced that people like you don't form their own opinions, or are just very short-sighted...

Bringing Maguire in was the Fellaini moment. You know we will be stuck with him for more years and moving him on will prove to be very difficult. At least Fellaini was usefull in very limited situations and the mistake at the time wasn't this expensive.

There is a lot of overreacting to Maguire. He surely will be our 1st choice CB ... hopefully alongside Varane (if he can stay fit). Is Maguire £80M good?... no he isn't. But he also isn't rubbish as so many seem to think. With that midfield in front of them even prime Rio and Vidic would be exposed.

Hopefully a more functional midfield, and full backs with a plan will see him back to what he did for us on 1st few years, a solid dependable CB good in the air and organising the defence.

You're having a piss with those.
Yes, great success, player of the year and your club gets relegated.
And let's not get into his Leicester career.

He was always a poor defender, not just his last season performances, which were by the way the worst i've seen a player wearing a United shirt play.
One half good season with Leicester masked it all and made everyone think he's a good CB.

Yes, his injury record is good, ill give him that.

A good option to have on the benchy maybe.
I still wouldn't trust him to close the last 20 minutes with a strong outing.

And his captiancy. Now there is a good laugh.

Such poor leadership skills only AWB is less intimidating and vocal then him.

Oh to be a fly on the wall when he gives the captains team talk. Probably some cringefest instagram self-help quotes.

Let's come back to this next summer when he's completed a season in a functional team and a good midfield in front of him.

Because that's on one player out of the whole squad, isn't it? And you're saying that I am the one taking the piss?

I agree, he's not captain material. But a defender doesn't have to be a leader to be a good player. And we're talking about his ability here.
