Gun control

The Suntrust Bank shooter was apparently one of those incel types according to an article I read yesterday.

The sheriffs resisting Washington's new gun laws: 'I'm not going to enforce that'

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/jan/26/washington-state-gun-laws-law-enforcement-rural

Local sheriff in my area posted similar tripe a few years ago in regards to the nonsense conspiracy "if the Dems took our guns." I posted how stupid it was to 1) believe that tripe, 2) post that you would ignore a federal mandate in such case, thus breaking the law you are sworn to uphold, and 3) to post such opposition to an official government page. I gained a quick following that approved of my post but a few started attacking me of course. Within a few minutes I began to notice posts opposing the sheriff's comments were being deleted including mine so I quipped about the local sheriff no longer supporting the first amendment, to which that comment was soon deleted. At that point I just walked away - can't trust these hillbilly cowboy LEOs around here, they'll feck you over if/when they can.

This is a really excellent article, I think.

Guns v grief: inside America’s deadliest cultural chasm
A mass shooting occurs 9 out of every 10 days in America. Stephen Marche explores America’s dueling gun cultures, from the world’s largest arms show to a family who helps victims cope
There is politics at the gun show, without a doubt. If you sign up for a National Rifle Association (NRA) membership at one of their many booths at the entrance, you don’t have to pay the $10 admission fee. A sign at one booth does read, like a kind of accidental poem:

No sales to

Obama

or Clinton supporters.

Get lost.

You are too dumb and irresponsible

to own a gun.
Sandy Phillips does not despair, traveling from massacre to massacre. Washington makes her despair. “When we go to lobby, or when we talk to elected officials, then I get discouraged,” she says. “Let’s take someone like Ted Cruz from Texas, who will lie to you to your face, who will tell you things that you know are not true.” Sandy and Lonnie had a private meeting with him once. “I think he just expected to pat us on the head and send us on our way,” she remembers. “He found out we had done our research, and he didn’t like that very much. That’s the kind of guy he is.”

The Phillipses tried other methods. They tried to sue the gun dealer who sold their daughter’s killer 4,000 rounds of ammunition, but the case was dismissed due to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. The couple had to pay $264,000 to the other side’s lawyers and filed for bankruptcy in January 2017. That’s what it’s like to oppose guns in the US.
There’s an awful lot of Nazi paraphernalia, far more than the usual pins and cigarette cases you might find in musty army surplus places.

Also on display was a slave shackle and a bill of sale for a 13-year-old girl named Delilah, aged 13. She cost $75. “You need any Negroes?” the dealer, a warm gentleman with facial hair modelled on old paintings of Robert E Lee, asks. “I’m afraid those ones are all dead so you’re going to lose on that deal.”
During the 2016 election, gold star father Khizr Khan waved a pocket constitution at a Clinton rally like a talisman to deflect Trump’s insults; the New York Times reprinted the whole thing, with commentary, like Talmud. The reverence is insane. The document says right on the first page that every African American is three-fifth of a person.

As with Trump and healthcare, I can’t imagine the history books being too kind on current America on this issue. Imagine reading in a book in 100 years that the response to school shooting number 500.000.000 wasn’t to stop people from buying guns but rather arming teachers.

Because reasons, constitution, freedom and some other things.

It's ridiculous and infuriating.

I'm very lucky to live in a country that had a government that was smart enough to act immediately after our last mass shooting. We don't have these problems since that day... Back in the mid-90's.

These NRA hillbilly farqheads are too stubborn to do the right thing.

Where I live, the most you can own is a bolt action hunting rifle. The fact that civilian Americans can buy handguns and military style assault rifles for self protection, or whatever the reason is, is fecking insane. And while the NRA is, in my opinion, a terrorist organization, from the outside it seems to me that the problem runs deeper than those farqheads. I mean, if it was only them, then surely they would’ve had an intervention like you guys did after Sandy Hook or Vegas. Instead, I think it’s a a matter of quite a lot of Americans buying into the idea of civilian gunownership being a part of their “freedom”, and of course effective lobbyism by the NRA and gutless politicians.

The fact that no politician has ever voiced the idea to disarm America says it all.

It's ridiculous, but they know it's political suicide. So that's what needs to change first before anything can be done about it.

One of the political leaders (however at state level) that lead the movement down here ended up losing his job, but he will be known as a hero of reason.

If anyone hasn't seen the John Oliver special on this then check out this video and the part two:

Lawsuit By Sandy Hook Victims Against Gun Manufacturer Allowed To Move Forward

Hmm.. Interesting. Let's see if they can win against the gun companies.
I’m interested in seeing how the prosecution proves that Remington did this...
The 4-3 majority largely upheld arguments made by lawyers for Remington that the company is protected from suit in many instances. The court ruled, however, that Congress did not intend the PLCAA to preclude state law. Ultimately, the majority said, the plaintiffs should have the opportunity to prove that Remington violated the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA) by marketing a military-style weapon to civilians.

Connecticut law, the court wrote in the majority opinion, "does not permit advertisements that promote or encourage violent, criminal behavior."

NZ have banned semi-auto assault rifles. See,America it's not rocket science.

The thread is harrowing. You would think the teachers are being prepared for an assault on ISIS in the middle of Raqqa.

America has a large veteran employment issue right? Well maybe this is the solution - they can train all the veterans to become teachers.

Or maybe as part of your rounds as a student teacher you do one month at this high school, another month at that high school, two years in Iraq and another month at another high school.

If you ever want to feel like smashing your head against a brick wall, just read a Facebook or Reddit thread with gun advocates in it. Better yet, take part in it.
They'll never realise that they're actually brainwashed.
