Guardian- 2 Deals Provisionally Agreed for Summer

When Giggs played CM against Olympiakos it made a massive difference having a CM who wanted the ball, could use the ball, and was a bit creative. The vacuum of a ball playing creative midfielder is there for all to see, Fellaini and Mata aren't that, we desperately need to recruit one this summer.
yeah fully agree. it probably wont solve all problems but will be nice to have some options for the centre backs on the ball, and to be able to recycle play a bit better than we have

Feck sake i saw this thread bumped up by 2 pages and thought we've got some new developments, instead all i saw was repetitive dross about Fellaini

We have some abysmal posters on here who refuse to be sensible.

To be fair, there's not much info going around at present. I think Moyes and Woodward learned from last Summer that by making your interest in players public you're only making a rod for your own back when they don't sign. I wouldn't look for any meaningful info until the end of the season.

So Taylor again says this in the new article

Woodward is confident that two deals have already provisionally been put in place, though those names have not been revealed. Their interest is known in several high-calibre players such as Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan at Borussia Dortmund, Toni Kroos at Bayern Munich and Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho.

Also I don't think one of them is Shaw because he's talking about in the paragraph just above this line

United confidently expect to close a deal of around £30m for Luke Shaw, offering the teenage Southampton full-back a lucrative financial package that could be worth as much as £100,000-a-week over five years. The offer will be difficult for Chelsea to match bearing in mind their issues over keeping in line with Uefa's financial fair play rules. Ed Woodward, United's chief executive, has been made aware that Cavani might be available and is also tempted to look again at Cesc Fábregas's position at Barcelona, despite the unsatisfactory way it turned out when they tried to sign him last summer.

Gundogan signed an extention like a week ago didn't he? Why is his name still being mentioned?

The hell do we want Cavani for?

Gundogan signed an extention like a week ago didn't he? Why is his name still being mentioned?

To be fair, it was just a one year extension. With his back issues the extension is clearly a buying time mechanism for all parties. I'm sure the demand for Gundogan has waned significantly with his injury situation. An extension gives Gundogan a chance to prove he's fit, Dortmund a chance to show Gundogan is fit and thus get their money's worth, and any interested clubs a chance to evaluate whether he is in fact fit.

Left back and midfield has been the priority ever since last summer, so I'd presume Carvalho and Shaw?

Imagine if the two deals we've provisionally agreed are Kroos and Reus, and it was all down to Moyes' encouraging them to join us. I'd genuinely have mixed feelings.

In fairness that stopped meaning much a long time ago. Nani signed one this season too didn't he, and yet him going is (was) almost expected

I'd imagine the two agreed deals to be a center back + William Carvalho with Shaw + a creative midfielder still to be pursued in the summer. Would be close to ideal if it turns out to be the case.

One of these agreed deals is probably Garay, we've had the bloke on standby for about 2 years.

After all the insanity of the last 10 months, it will be absolutely incredible if we can kick off next season with a good new manager and a couple of the better targets we've been teased with.

Gundogan hasn't played since August and will miss the World Cup as well. Can't see us or any other club making a move for him this year.

Does nobody else find it interesting that we are still apparently moving for players despite having no manager to decide what he wants and where?

It's not the perfect scenario but if we wait we might miss out on important targets such as Shaw and we might regret it later on. I seriously doubt that our new manager would mind if we had secured some quality players before his appointment.

A signing like Shaw is a no-brainer. I can't imagine our future manager not being happy with him. We obviously need a new LB and Shaw is one of the best young LB's around.

Ha! I was just thinking this. We are agreeing deals on players Moyes wanted and "secured".

I know. But who is making that decision?

The scouts? Giggs? Woodward? Fergie?

What if the next manager decides that he want's an attacking wingback?

Dont be too sure, Coentrao was available was he not? He is 24/25 and an established player already.

Didn't Van Gaal have issues with the players that Bayern signed for him before he'd taken over?

The Glazers are also due to discuss United’s summer transfer budget, with £150 million set aside for moves for the likes of Southampton’s Luke Shaw and Paris St-Germain’s Edinson Cavani. Cesc Fabregas, the Barcelona midfielder, is another under consideration, despite rejecting United’s advances last summer.

United are understood to have held talks with Cavani’s advisers in the French capital last week in an effort to persuade the Uruguayan forward – rated at £60 million by PSG – to agree to a pre-World Cup move.

Attempts to bolster United’s squad will continue during the process of recruiting a new manager, with candidates advised of the club’s targets and offered the chance to veto any moves should they secure the job.

The very reliable Mark Ogden reporting something along the same lines too. Cavani’s transfer doesn't make sense to me at all, unless RVP or Rooney are off.

I would imagine Woodward is doing the deal based on the scouting reports we will have done on him. Maybe the likes of Giggs who is likely to be around next season will also have a say on the matter. It isn't that unusual for clubs to sign players without a manager in place. City and Chelsea have done it in the recent past. If a club waits until the new manager is officially in place many potential targets could already be snapped up so there is little other option. This is particularly relevant for us if we were to appoint Van Gaal who may not be able to begin working for us until some time in late July.

I would say unless both are off. You'd struggle to keep 2 of them happy let alone all 3.

Why do we want Cavani exactly? Rooney is obviously not leaving and with Van Gaal being the sure-fire favorite to take over, can't see the club selling Van Persie this summer. Replacing Hernandez with Cavani does not make any sense especially when we have an already unhappy player in Welbeck because of lack of opportunities as a striker. If Hernandez leaves I'd like us to promote James Wilson to the first team.

I know but we've not seen us in this position before and it's a club where the manager has always had full responsibility over transfers and here we are with no manager, looking to push deals through.

It wouldn't surprise me if the club hadn't already moved and appointed someone or at least anointed them and all transfer dealings is being done with the mystery man's consultation.

The only way I could see it if we were going to use Cavani wide. However, that's one of the reasons he isn't happy at PSG so I don't think that would happen either.

It would surprise me, considering that would be completely illegal in the face of the NYSE.

Which code would it violate?

Do you not think we were discussing transfers with Moyes long before 1st July? Indeed probably long before anyone, NYSE included, was told of the appointment

We couldn't employ a new manager and keep it a secret for X amount of time without informing share holders and potential share holders.
