Gonzalo Higuain

Not when Villa went for 35m

Madrid are a bit like us when it comes to selling, never getting proper value

I can see him going for around 25m of which we should definitely pay!

Villa is 28, Higuain is 22.

Younger players are worth more money because they can be sold on for a fee, and you can benefit from them for a longer period of time. Plus they have room for improvement - Higuain's best days may still be ahead of him when he is in the prime years for a striker.

There seems to be a lot of people who do not take age into account when they pick a transfer fee for a player.

United perhaps had a chance when they sold Ronaldo to Real - we could have involved Higuain in the deal. I very much doubt if we are in the bidding this time if he is sold.

Yup, I never understand why we don't get their players, they're stupid as hell in the market, but they've managed to take Beckham and Ronaldo off us, while we've got nothing in return, so we must be stupid as hell too.

We could've had Robben, or even Sneijder somewhere from them, at least make a bid but it appears we've never even bothered.

Since when does Maradona set the Worlds transfer fees?

And why is he creating speculation and uncertainty over one of his players on the eve of the World Cup?

If Argentina do well in this World Cup it's gunna be despite this chump. Magnificent player though he was

Typical Madrid. Marginalizing a player because he wasn't bought by the current president.

Typical Maradonna, more like. Sticking his oar in where it doesn't belong. I still hold him partially to blame for Tevez getting so wound up over the contract negotiations with United. The gobby twat.

Apart from anything else, why would he want to unsettle Higuain over his future just before a World Cup? :wenger:

Great player. Awful manager.

We were all pissed when City signed Robinho from Real and look how that turned out.

Were we? By the end of his last season at Madrid he couldn't even get in the team, being kept out by a very inexperienced Higuain(on the right wing) incidentally. Then there's his attitude...

The situations are vastly different. Higuain showed he was up for the fight time and time again, Robinho acted like a little bitch when he didn't get his way.

Yep. Well said.

I am still not convinced Real will be stupid enough to sell, but I can't imagine they will get another season out of him without upping his wages to a degree.

I refuse to believe that they are ready to drop Higuain. That would be ridiculous. On paper he is their best player this season, outdoing a couple of ballon d'or winners. He scored more than Ronaldo whom also got penalties and free kick goals, on almost identical playing time. He should also fit Mourinho's tactics rather well. I know that a couple of big names will be shown the door at Real Madrid this season - van der Vaart, Kaka, Benzema, Raul might be examples. I doubt that Higuain will be one of them. Even a mad man like Florentino Perez cannot deny how impressive Higuain season has been this season, he cannot be a complete retard even though he clearly lacks a couple of brain cells.

One Ronaldo didn't take all of the penalties or he would had 5 more goals easily, two, it's ridiculous to say oh this player scores freekicks, as if it some easily skill that should be overlooked in a player's goal tally.

I agree. However, Higuain has no penalty goals, and he has scored more than Ronaldo regardless of those free kicks and penalties. All I wanted to do was specify the brilliant season Higuain had this season, it was not meant to criticize Ronaldo.

CBA to read the thread but if he's in any way available.. sign the fecker.

Going no where
Higuain will target up to 2016
• The decisive meeting took place after the presentation of Mourinho ° makes few dates, Valdano player called the "transferable"
Agreement in principle for the renewal of Gonzalo Higuain. A lack of signature, which will occur in the coming days, Real Madrid and Jorge Higuain, Gonzalo's father and manager, have agreed to the extension of the contract 'The Pipit', which ended in 2013, until 2016.

The meeting between Valdano, José Ángel Sánchez and Higuain senior has taken place after the presentation of Jose Mourinho as the new coach of Real Madrid and also reaches the few dates that declared Jorge Valdano "Transferable" Argentine striker, for whom the last club has been interested Manchester City.

In fact, we can say that Mourinho's arrival at the Bernabeu bench has accelerated efforts to renew Higuaín, considered key by the Portuguese coach. In addition, the club has agreed to improve the contract as a reward for his constant evolution in recent seasons.

Actually Robinho was very good for Madrid in their last season. He played really well of the left wing for them

Then he got pissed with them becaues Madrid kept trying to dump him to United and cause Madrid were too eager to sign Ronaldo to replace Robinho.

it's on AS as well - they both have photos of his dad and valdano today!

interesting to see if after citeh sounded them out about him last week if they sign dzeko before midnight tonight? if not i think they have IBRAHIMOVICH coming!

He had a very good mid-season, his best run of form for any club, but he was typically inconsistent and did nothing in the first couple of months and was even worse by the end of it.

What Higuain did for Madrid in 08/09, never mind 09/10, was much more impressive than Robinho's entire career there.

The fact that he whined like a child when he was being offered in exchange for Ronaldo, instead of deciding to fight for his place and show he had some balls like Higuain did (in the exact same situation in the same summer, lest we forget), only further highlighted the problems.

I've no idea why people use that as an excuse(or justification) for Robinho's decision to move because it doesn't make it look any better.

Robinho, like most wingers, was horribly erratic. He "missed" a couple of flights home after Brazil games and had a reputation for enjoying Madrid's nightlife. Which meant that he was an easy target for press and fans after bad results. Such an easy target that he took to leaving the training ground by the back entrance. He wanted a new contract - he wasn't one of the well paid ones, which made it worse.

The complaint he was being used as a negotiating chip for Ronaldo just helped him demand an exit with dignity.

Higuain on the other hand puts up with being subbed in/out of games at random, scores most weeks, doesn't have a party loving reputation and is a fan favourite.

Wrong. Higuian wasn't offered in exchange for anyone. Infact he was in the situation Zlatan finds himself in now instead. Robinhow a sopenyl disrespected and bandied about by Real. The same thing they did to Wesley Sneijder last summer. Before they finally kicked him out to Inter.

There's as much evidence Higuain was offered in exchange for Ronaldo as there is for Robinho being offered.

i.e. a bunch of newspaper rumours.

I don't know why you'd choose to believe some but choose not to believe others. They're all from the same bollocks sources.

Can't really see why Mourinho would be so willing to get rid of his top scorer.

Raul and Benzema are far more likely to be shown the door.

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain expressed his happiness with having finally agreed to terms with los Blancos to extend his contract with the club until 2016.

The Argentinian forward was a target for money bags Manchester City but has committed his future to the Madrid giants and incoming boss Jose Mourinho.

"The truth is that I am very happy with my contract extension and that I will be staying in Madrid. It was something I was waiting for with a lot of anticipation and really helps my psyche," he said according to Spanish daily AS.

As for the coaching change at Real Madrid, Higuain was respectful to Manuel Pellegrini, but regarded Jose Mourinho's arrival as good news.

"It is a pity that Pellegrini has left because I felt very good working with him. He is a good person. But without any doubt, a coach with a history of success is coming in his place.

"He [Mourinho] is a winner and everything he has won with other clubs is going to take hold at Madrid. We have to work with him and him with us. I am very enthusiastic with what is in store at Madrid, but right now I have my head in the World Cup.

"As for going to the World Cup, I can only say it is a dream come true. Four years ago I was watching and thought, 'How incredible it would be to be there'. Now it is hard to believe I am realising that dream."

Asked if he was nervous for his World Cup debut, Higuain admitted he will have a few butterflies.

"When I think I'm going to play in a World Cup and I imagine my debut, my hair stands on end. In a few days, my family will come to South Africa and it will be very nice to have them here supporting me in such an important time for me.

"Further, I get along well with my team-mates on the national team. They make fun of me for sleeping so much, but the truth is that I think one should be rested to feel 100 per cent for the tournament. The only thing I am thinking about is giving everything on the pitch to help Argentina win the World Cup."

THE END

Great player. Madrid's best overall the last two seasons without a doubt. Gets a bit of freedom as well from the press because of Ronaldo and Messi. That ain't bad.

It was never going to happen. FFS Higiuan is their best scorer + Real are not a selling club.

He looks like one of those players who'd struggle to score 15 a season for a midtable club, but Real are so dominant he can't help but score loads.

Seriously, he looks like such a poor footballer at times, it's no wonder when the big games come around he gets dealt with easily most of the time
