Gonzalo Higuain

Seriously, he looks like such a poor footballer at times, it's no wonder when the big games come around he gets dealt with easily most of the time

No real pace. Not great dribbling or control under pressure. I don't know about him being a poor player, but he'd struggle in the Premier League.

He looks like one of those players who'd struggle to score 15 a season for a midtable club, but Real are so dominant he can't help but score loads.

Nah, he's made tons of goals out of nothing for Real in the past few seasons.

Wow.

it is a huge stage .. the nerves are getting to most of the 'young talents'
he was played wide right wasnt he .. not exactly his favorite position

Wow.

Well, my opinion isn't knee jerk, if thats what you're implying. I've seen him numerous times and I really feel he isn't the kind of player who'd flourish in a league like the English.

I know he is a good player. And I mentioned that too.

he's had a couple of brilliant seasons for real and you lot are judging him off this game? crazy. he's much more than an inzaghi type of player as well.

well if you did, you'd know he has a good touch/control and has decent dribbling ability. his pace is fine enough as well.

Well from what i'v read here, Higuain is quite clearly past his peak

There's no questioning his ability. He scores plenty of goals and finishes well with either foot from some tough angles at times. He has had a few big matches where he's forgotten his shooting boots, but I'd give a lot of credit to the keeper today. Made some fantastic saves.

Nah I've been saying this all season, he scores goals but his overall play is more often than not, quite gash, but goals paper the cracks, Meh, he's a striker, I still think Benzema is more talented though

No. He's quite clearly ( choose one or maybe all)

1. Shit

2. Over rated.

3. Past it.

4. Inzaghi

Except Inzaghi would have put those chances away. That's the difference.

Its funny seeing everyone write off every single decent player after one performance.

DECENT. He doesn't have the necessary skills to cope with the Premier League. Its an opinion based on many times I've seen him. Not only on this match.

If you notice the really well to do strikers in the PL, power and/or pace are 2 things which they have in abundance. I've not seen Higuain show either of those skills at a high level.

Of course he is a good player. You can't score many goals in a competitive league if you aren't. But doesn't mean he'd perform equally well in another league.

Anywho, what is the deal with you calling everyone who doesn't agree with you a 'knee jerk?' Aren't people allowed to have opinions?

It's much more the case of people who don't buy into the hype having their fears confirmed about all these younger players. I have never rated Higuain on the level of Torres, Villa and Drogba and this is just futher proof that he's not at their level.

Am I the only one who thinks criticism of his pace is unfair? He's been going past people whenever I've seen him play in La Liga, skinned Puyol a few times as well when Argentina play Catalonia.

There are not many strikers on the level of Torres, Villa, Drogba and ROoney anyway.

That being said Higuain is a great striker himself.

I tend not to buy the hype as well. But also tend not to write them off. I don't think many sane people rated Higuain in the Torres, Villa bracket.

Power and pace aren't skills, they're physical attributes. Higuain's pace and dribbling ability is fine as he's skinned many players to prove that.

And those comparing him with the top strikers, well the player is 22, the way some of you go on its as if he can never get better. To be such a good player at his age is an achievement in itself.

Besides, there are plenty of strikers who don't need the pace of Torres/Eto'o to be good. Look at the premier league's best player/striker, Rooney isn't as quick as Torres but he's brilliant because of his intelligence and all round game.

I'm also sick of all this "but can he do it in the PL?" shit. Diego Forlan is a top class striker. The best player in the world hasn't played in the premier league, so what? La Liga has the best players in the world. You can say all you want about the better defences etc but our league has still let players like Bent/Defoe score over 20 goals.

He's in that bracket and in that bracket fair and square. A lot of people would have him behind those 2, but in the top striker bracket none the less.

Wait till Torres has a game for Spain and suddenly its "I dont think many people had Torres in the Villa bracket".

Higuain has established himself as a top striker. One poor match doesnt make the slight bit of difference. Its only when the players still need to prove themselves at top clubs/against decent opposition that one poor game at the world cup can prove costly to their overhyped reputation. Because those players havent proven that its just an off day. Questions remain about their actual quality. There's no question about Higuain's quality as a striker. He'll have his poor games, but he'll make up for them in his great games and get you 20+ goals in a top league.

This is spot on, Anyone questioning Higauins ability after 1 offish match is having a laugh considering hes been absolutely sensational for 2 full years at Real Madrid now, scoring bucket loads of goals and carrying them at times....hes a brilliant striker, and at just 22 hes going to be one of the best in the world for many years.

Had he scored 2 he would be highly praised, just below dog, and a clear muppett transfer target.

One day he is great, the other one he is an overrated shite.

After watching Green Fck up lets now talk transfers, so who is joining us?

Higuain with Madrid, further than 25 yards out, is a very ordinary looking player. I don't really understand it. It's not that he plays it safe or plays it "for the team" when he's outside scoring territory, he just looks very average, and not even particularly fast or hardworking by way of compensation.

Put him into the final 25 and he comes to life - scores all kind of goals, shows imagination and intelligence. It may be all his speed's in that first step or first turn and in the penalty area that's what counts. He needs feeding - he's not a get something out of nothing player (not for himself and not for other people), though he's good at getting something out of half a chance - and that's a rare skill as well.

A passing interest I would say, I think it will pick up if the US makes it past the group stages. I bet the game got pretty good ratings today, not that that is a good thing as it wasnt exactly a showcase for the beautiful game.

I'd say there's a marked change in interest in the world cup since 06, which is really all we can ask for I guess. It's gotten pretty good coverage over all the main news networks and I have friends that aren't normally into "soccer" that have come out of the woodwork paying attention to the tournament.

Ah Higuain...the king of FM 2007..the real one isnt as prolific but still he is a quality player.

As prolific as what? Not many players in the world score as much as he does. And he could score a lot more if he'd finish more simply.

he would be twice the player if he gets his head up and looks around more, he's too head down, head straight to goal

 this again ? Cmon Boss, hes a pure goal scorer, I think his all round game is pretty good all things considered. RVN, Inzagi not exactly for playing with their heads up? Its the nature of the role pal.

Hate him in pro evo. He's a better stiker than Rooney.
