Gonzalo Higuain

Real Madrid will most likely get in Villa to replace Raul long term. Benzema will be real lucky to still be at the Bernabeu next season.

One of Benz/higuain will leave to offset villa/Ribery coming in .

Higuain scored a poachers goal tonight. cleared off the line right to him but showed quick reflexes to head it in. All for nought as I believe barca won in sevilla

A canal+ analyst has said he has on a very reliable source that Real Madrid will sell Higuain.

Acaba el día y tres reflexiones. Una, sé de buenísima fuente que R. Madrid hará todo lo posible por vender a Higuain. Sería una atrocidad...

The day is over, 3 reflexions. One, I know on a very reliable source that R. Madrid will do everything to sell Higuain, It would be really bad

@maldinisport

If he is for sale United need to go after him, he is fecking class. He just scores a ton, players like that dont come along all the time. Idiotic by Madrid if true only Ronaldo has been better than him this year

I would love it if those idiots sell Higuain . Add him to the long list of classy players they sold : Makelele, Robben, Sjneider.... Perez is a feckin' genius!!!

Makalele had to be their worst sale ever, how could they not notice that he did the work of 3 players defensively and allowed other players to do nothing other focus on scoring goals. One of Chelsea's best buys there is no doubt about, he was at the tail end of his career but still put in a good shift for them and taught young Obi-Wan well enough, even though he is shit haha

Neither Higuain nor Benzema will be coming to OT.

We won't sign anyone for anything approaching 20m. The most we can hope for is promising youngsters, stop gap veterans, or free transfers.

Also, there will be no doubt about the following:

The market was inflated; there was simply no value; City/Chelsea/Real signing player X for Y millions sent prices through the roof; the World Cup made it hard to buy anyone; the Lib-Con coalition didn't help; Anderson/Hargreaves/Obertan/Diouf coming back from injury/getting a full pre-season under their belt is like signing a new player; the failed Red Knight bids were an unwelcome distraction; we bid X amount for Randomdinho, but Real bid X+5; money can't buy you love, etc

I forgot to add the managers : Del Bosque, Capello

I can't see Real getting rid of any either Higuain or Benzema. They're going to be the long term strikers there.

Especially Higuain, the lad is a stunning striker, Real do do some foolish things. I wouldnt be surprised if they sold him and then bought back at an inflated price in a few years

He is a promising youngster!! Some may say 'special talent' so don't see why not.

Says here he's made a verbal agreement to sign for Barcelona in the summer. Then again the newspapers are rarely correct.

David Villa 'turns down Arsenal and Manchester City to join Barcelona' | Metro.co.uk
I'm not convinced. Firstly Arsenal could never afford hm and City, who could, he wouldn't want to go there. As for Barca, They don't need him at all. They are not about to ship out Zlatan after one season and Villa is no wide man. That fella will either end up at a Chelsea or at Real.

I had a bit of a dig round to see how things had reached this point (if they're right :D) - and from some places it sounds like Higuain may have pushed all the wrong buttons, including the eject button, this week.

Apparently his dad (who's also his agent) has been doing a bit of a European tour, not sanctioned by Madrid, asking various clubs what Higuain's wages would be.

He's got three years left on his contract and thinks he deserves a payrise (Benzema has been mentioned for comparison purposes) - which is understandable, but Madrid don't like to be bullied by a player. They particularly don't like being pressurised in public which apparently is what Higuain is now doing. So the For Sale sign may be real.

If I recall Makelele's wage demands, wanting parity with some of the higher profile players in the team, is what sped up his departure too.

A lot of clubs do negotiate with their top players every year (Kaka had 3 new contracts in 4 years with Milan, Messi has had 3 new contracts in 4 years) and some players seem to expect it (like Tevez with City)

In Higuain's case it looked like Madrid were going to negotiate - but the rumours have swung the other way in the last month.

How ironic!

Time will tell.. I hope Real Madrid are that stupid and we are smart enough to pick him up..

i'd welcome him, but i wouldnt be so quick to sell berbasmooth... i'd rather get rid of owen, and go with Rooney, Berba, Hiquain and Macheda as our main strikers/forwards....

If we could also get a creative midfielder, a left winger and a keeper we'll be sorted for the next few years ;-) However, i'm afraid we'll have to make do with gibson, obertan and kutzak for another year or so...

edit: forgot about the new guy from south america (where's he from again?) Still, considering the impact that other recent youth signings like obertan and diouf have made, I dont expect him to be anywhere near our first team in the first 6 months of the 2010/2011 campaign...

Just for the curious - a snapshot of how Madrid fans reacting to this.

They're pretty much horrified. The phrase - "do we ever learn" - is coming up regularly on after match reports, and discussion boards. Every now and again you'll hear one of them say, "but he never scores in Europe", but even they follow it up with, "but he's too young to sell."

They don't want to sell Benzema either - too young to sell - but Higuain's one of the most popular players at the Bernabeu, whereas nobody really cares much about Benzema.

Most of them put a Higuain sale down to one thing: spite. Higuain's a Calderon signing.

How pacy is this guy?

He's not really about pace, in the highspeed counterattack sense, but he's quick over 5 yards. When he moves from his favourite 25 yards out spot to turn onto a through ball - he's in the area and scoring before most defenders get moving.

I know he scores goals, but i'm yet to be convinced with him under pressure. Then again he is young and does know where the net is so if he's available for around the 20 mill mark i say go for it.

Come on, anyone not thinking this guy would be a worthy addition needs their head checking.

You run a risk like with any player, will they settled etc but he is a top prosect and has played at a very high level for a couple of seasons now.

If you think the pressure would get to him then it might. I still have question marks over him in the big big games but he has handles the speculation, the constant crazyness of madrid and all that comes with it very well.

He's a player who has consistently been talked about as dispensable and a sellable player at madrid yet has performed brilliantly and very consistently for them.

That's about as useful as this:

sign him, a rooney Higuain strike partnership will be penetrative and exciting. Him and Hamsik in the summer please.... And a top goal keeper!

Agreed, his anticipation seems top notch.

Interesting about fans feelings about higuain/benzema, it looks like one will be sold

I have to say if we can get him for a reasonable price, then by all means go for it. Real Madrid are being run by such unbelievably dumb people. The kid has been a star for them in recent years and is on a distinguished path. They will regret it immensely when he's not there to score goals for them.

It's criminal how much they under value him and forcing him out of their club is foolish. Luckily we can appreciate such talented strikers and we would surely be an attractive destination for him. That is if Chelsea or Man City don't get there first and make things complicated.

We should be clever enough to put in a cheeky bid, in which marca will say Madrid robbed us, like they did when they sold Robben  "25m for an injury prone player, we've robbed them!" look how that went for them.

Quite honestly I think we are wasting time talking about us signing high calibre players when we dont have the money, the money would have to be borrowed. It is the bargain basement for us
