Wow, €100m for a nearly 29-year old striker who isn't even the very top tier of forwards is a bit steep. If they get €120m for Pogba now it'll still be a bad deal IMO.

United is ready to give them the opportunity to actually strengthen the team with the massive fee they get for Pogba and they decide to burn the vast majority of it on a 28 year old striker. He basically has to become the vital factor of them winning the CL to even remotively be worth that.
In difference to all other transfers in that region in the past, he is too old to be sold for even a fraction of what he costs them if he does not deliver strongly, making it a huge risk of a transfer. This has money grave written all over it.

Sure, but there's also a future. It just makes me wonder what players in a team like Stoke is worth in todays market. They must have the same value as Uniteds squad had 5 years ago.

It's not really, when you consider his goal record, a pretty safe bet. He doesn't really really on pace too, so growing older shouldn't really be a problem.

He is top tier in terms of the fact he was the best player not just goalscorer in the league last season, its as close to a guarantee that it will work out as possible so adds a premium. Similar to how Kane doesn't seem to be really top tier but puts it in the net for fun in the prem so if he moves to another prem team will be a huge huge price.

He's the best player they could realistically buy. No other player who is among the best in his position would have moved to Serie A on Juventus wages.
