Imagine being comfortable to say this on camera, this is where we are at in this country.

It's literally like sewage became sentient. How is there nothing else going on up there ffs.

Never sure what these interviews are trying to prove or that they're fair to the public targeted.

We already know thick people exist, this chap has a thick idea. He probably doesn't deserve to be exposed to twitter ridicule. Owen isn't even trying to counter or teach him anything it's just leading a thick bloke to look a fool.

People like that have an idea that there's nothing stopping 1 million refugees coming here next year. None of the parties have adequately explained their solution to prevent it so it's on them as much as the thickos.

I saw a comment on this that was perfect. “GBNews is to boomers what boomers were terrified video games were to us”

If it's possible in your constituency, please consider voting Greens or even the Lib Dems over Labour. The Tories have capitulated, don't give this centre-right sham of a Labour party too much power.

Waste a vote and maybe allow one more tory to get in?

You should be saying get rid of as many tories as possible by voting tactically for Labour in toss up constituencies so the LD can maybe become official opposition.

What makes you think Lib Dems are any good anyway, they were joint architects of austerity and quite responsible for the country eventually ending up in this mess.

They'd sell their own mothers for power so I'd take anything they say with a barrel of salt.

I'm not Owen's biggest fan but he literally says shooting bullets on boats will kill people but the man keeps saying it. Why shouldn't someone who thinks shooting people in boats and then they can 'swim' to shore not be open to ridicule? It's not a 'thick idea', its fecking racism. It's fecking disgusting. You can have concerns around migration without being openly racist and wanting to shoot at people. We need to be calling this behaviour out more, the same we do politicians.

Owen needs some views for his YouTube channel, so panders to his subscribers by interviewing only 50+ white men and women and being surprised by their views.

Nah feck that vote labour.

Are you saying all white people over the age of 50 are idiotic racists?

Liberal Democrats pipping the Tories to be the official opposition would mean nothing. Labour will likely have 400+ seats. The opposition has no part to play in government under those terms.

Ironic that you think tactical voting should be employed so we don't allow one more Tory to get in, when Labour has been accepting ex-Tories into the party quite willingly.

Ironic also that you think we should take anything the Lib Dems say with 'a barrel of salt', when Starmer has routinely lied and backtracked on pledges he made to gain leadership of Labour.

The Green candidate in my consistency is openly endorsing the Labour candidate in the local hustings.

That's what I'm doing. From what I can see the voting intention is heavily labour in my constituency with the Tories, Greens and Lib Dems close together. Probably going to go Greens.

You've maybe got one of the good ones then. Obviously do your own due diligence. Some decent candidates did survive the Starmer purge.

Not at all, you don't need to put words in peoples mouths. The point was more on Owen Jones and a video which interviews a certain demographic with particular views/intelligence resonating more for his channel subscribers ensuring he gets more views. Interviewing less controversial opinions or different demographics in Liz Truss' constituency just wouldn't make the video interesting to his subscribers.

Good shout.

Absolutely you're right you can't do anything in politics without first having power and we've seen the lib dems in power, let's see Starmer first before judging.

Official opposition is actually a massive platform, it is usually one of the two parties that wins power at the next election.

I've voted the same in the last 2 elections since living here and it's now moved into a new boundary in this election but my vote won't change, the other candidates just don't even have the record in public office to even compete with the Labour candidate who has served as a town and county councillor for the last 10 years.

I feel like the social media team was directly thinking of @Sweet Square when crafting this.

He's pulling the face I normally have after I've just consumed a double sausage McMuffin with 2 hash browns. Someone should tell him you're only supposed to shite yourself after eating their breakie.

As we are getting closer now, is there a timeline for when people should tune in to watch? Would people say the best time to start watching is around the exit poll announcement and then enjoy it from that moment on? Considering the time difference, i'm looking at a potential 3am start, so if anyone could give a "optimum" moment to start watching, that would be greatly appreciated.

The exit poll comes out 10pm UK time.

My local councillor is standing up to be an MP this time as an independent. I am kind of torn because I really like this guy as he does a lot for the area as a councillor but I think it’s unlikely that the rest of the area outside his council would vote for him as it’s a safe labour seat & has always been. I always thought that I would vote labour but the labour candidate is absolutely terrible and has been sitting MP for 9 years now. She is 77 and you barely every see her at all

If it's safe labour, vote with your heart. :)

The only people, on here at least, that should really worry about their vote is if the current polling would have the contest at like 31% labour and 30% Tory. If you are in a deep red seat, vote with whomever has your closest policy. If you're in "light blue", then i'd say vote labour. If it's deep blue, but strategic voting is leaning lib dem, vote lib dem etc etc.

The leader of the opposition gets to ask 6 questions at PMQs and these take centre stage in the debate. The rest of the parties get to ask two questions later on

In addition to this, when anything happens in the political sphere, the Government is asked for a response by the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 News and the opposition is asked for counter response. That is the default, other parties are then optionally questioned.

If Tories or god forbid Reform are the opposition it will be a pantomime, where the air is sucked out of debate and all we hear about is immigration and other right wing talking points.

If Lib Dem are the opposition, Labour will be challenged on their austerity and generally challenged from more from the left.

I honestly don’t think the implications of that can be understated.

If you choose not to vote for your preferred candidate because they can't win, then you should not be voting for a candidate/party that does not support electoral reform. Otherwise what is the point?

Across social media I’ve been seeing so much support for Reform but it’s all the same and I can’t help but think it’s 99% artificial. I tentatively predict that they actually perform awfully tomorrow.

Because he's thick and he doesn't agree it'll kill people. He attempts to give his dumb rationale and Owen just retorts people will die. He isn't wrong but he doesn't try to reason. It only takes explaining the results of Greece shooting boats to evidence why it'll cause countless deaths

It's just very obvious outrage porn. No issue with challenging the behaviour and trying to change their minds but this isn't what that is at all. It's not remotely helpful to anyone.

Yes I am aware of all of this. But if you think the Tories/Reform will be marginalised in news coverage if they do not finish in 2nd place, then I have a bridge to sell you.

I'll concede that parliamentary happenings would be fairly different. But very little of the wider British public follow Westminster events as it is, and as I suggested above, the news coverage and talking points will remain the same.

It just won't have an impact on policy-making or public opinion.

It’ll be an interesting night for sure, and the size of the Reform vote is the thing I’m most interested in seeing. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it’s higher than the polls are showing. Indeed the First Past the Post system may become untenable after it.

I think it's ridiculously disingenuous that you're pretending to believe he really meant "shooting at the boats" instead of at the people on them, which is very clearly what he meant at first. When he realises the interviewer is not from a far right medium and is not playing along and sort of starts pushing back, he cowardly and embarrassingly starts backpedalling. It's not a "thick idea", it's pure unadulterated racist hatred. I'm not sure if exposing it is "helpful" or not, but let's be absolutely clear, that's not the issue here at all, and if you think it is then I'm sorry for you in the same way I'm "sorry" for that pathetic bigot.
