Gary Neville

he’s always been very willing and eager to go down the bad character route when it’s a foreign player tbh, seen it with Spurs Chelsea Liverpool Utd and Arsenal players in the past, it’s “bad egg” when it’s a foreigner and “good lad who’s having a difficult period in this moment in time” with English

Any cnut that says rent free needs a good slap. Basically what you are doing by using the cliche rent free is trying to negate anyone calling you out on your bullshit. Well it doesn't fecking work on me.
Have you looked at this thread? This Gary Neville fixation started way before this. But please feel free to come and give me a slap.

He had an understandable meltdown on Sunday, like many other United fans. However, he definitely owes Bruno an apology for starting that false rumour live on tv which other people have picked up on but sincerely doubt he’ll do it.

It's not the first time people have made stuff up about our players, I'm not sure why people are that bothered about it now, probably because it's Neville and people are obsessed with everything he says for some reason, like he has more weight than Souness or Carragher when they say stupid shit, he doesn't.

Bruno was the captain on Sunday, the captain is the manager on the pitch and if that's a reflection of our manager than he should be fired. Bruno and the rest of them were disgraceful but you expect more from your captain.
Gary has been piling on Bruno for a while now. It’s not wrong to point out biased and disgraceful comments from pundits never mind from an ex player.
We may expect better from Bruno but that doesn’t give professional pundits the right to outright lie about him

Neville was so desperate not to fall into the trap every ex Liverpool player turned pundit did, and be so blatantly bias towards his favoured club that he would become a meme but went way to far, becoming the complete opposite and arguably the most anti United pundit on TV.

He's so far gone I don't think there's any way back. While other ex United pros have been negative over the years, think Scholes as an example, they have also been able to enjoy things more recently as we have improved, even letting themselves hope.

Neville doesn't. He can rarely bring himself to be positive about United and the rare occasion he does so, there's always a but.

Someone made a post, either in here or elsewhere about how Neville is the only pundit you couldn't guess who he supported, if you didn't know before hand. And that just about sums him up. And its not as if Sky demand it from him, everyone else is able to express their support.

I can't remember how it ended for him at United other than he fell off a cliff and was absolutely horrific in his final games. So it's not as if he can feel wronged by the club or Fergie as Keane was (who is still able to separate his personal feelings for one man with his love for the club often enough).

Thinking about it, it's could be something as simple as what a lot of United fans on here seem to suffer with, after years of disappointment and negativity, it's basically become the default setting.

I've started to feel like this too. I mean we've had some right pricks play for this club, but I find Neville more annoying than any of them. He probably winds me up more than pundits that never played for us and delight in sticking the boot in.

He revels in United schadenfreude more than opposition fans!

How was he a prick?

My wife was invited to a Women in Business (or something) event in Manchester where he was the guest speaker and it involved meet and greet etc. One of the girls on my wife's table went up to Neville during the dessert and asked for a photo and he said verbatim "I'm eating, leave me alone."

Later my wife went over with 2 of the girls and asked for a photo... he said "OK but be quick", didn't even attempt to smile and left c. 5 minutes later. (5 minute talk, ate, took 2 photos with fans, who likely attended BECAUSE of him, then left.)

Anyone got a video of him saying it live? I was in a daze by the point in the match and vaguely remember it but I didn’t take it as a serious comment at the time.

Nev is a true red, anyone who doubts that just says it because they have other issues with him.

Was he there to do a speech or a meet and greet?

Id charge you for that.

Gary Neville is an utter bell end. He has done more damage to United on TV than any other pundit could. I hope the coach and players reject any interaction with the utter drivel merchant.

What damage has he done out of interest? Talked bad about some players who have been shit and most fans have dug in on anyway?

how has he directly damaged the club

By relentlessly criticising them. Its his default setting. He was fecking team mates with OGS and did nothing but moan about United even when they were playing decently under Ole. Look at how other pundits behave when talking about their teams and look at Neville. If you didnt know who he was you wouldnt think he was an ex player.

He was there as a guest speaker and the marketing said you'd be able to meet him on the night

Did you check his sleeve? Was he badged up? Sounds like he was, such a simple thing can change a man. Probably didn't have time to hang around taking pictures as he'd prearranged a meet with the lads against the boys from Stockport.

People are bothered about this one, probably more than normal, because it's came from Gary Neville, a United legend. Was a totally unnecessary thing to say and has now been repeated as fact and it's just blatantly not true.

I'm agreeing with you, it wasn't good enough from him on Sunday and he needs to be doing more. I don't understand though how you don't think it's bad a United legend on commentary just making sh*te up about our players when we were already getting battered and playing badly. Just seems mad for him to have said it and not said anything since about being wrong. As I said, an unnecessary thing for Bruno to be taking stick over.
I’m probably not that bothered by it because I didn’t hear him say it during the game, but I can appreciate it’s irked people. But my point on Neville is that it doesn’t matter what he says, it’s only United fans worrying that other United fans will take his word as gospel, and yet every United fan on here and social media generally thinks he talks bollocks about United most of the time.

So he hasn’t damaged the club.

he won multiple leagues and champions leagues and played with the best players while being managed by the best manager all while being a fan. I just think his standards are far far higher than us meddling around in the Europa league for years with mediocre players and managers. No wonder he moans seeing what had happened to this club the last ten years.

for some reason our fans just love to hate ex players, not sure there are many ex players who have a good word said about them.

He doesn’t like him, that much is obvious. Bruno isn’t the person you want on the pitch when we’re losing, he doesn’t help, he just blames and points fingers which causes more division on the pitch.

But if Bruno is going to get shit from anyone, it’s because of his performances, not because Gary Neville said something that was true or not true.

Pundits have piled in on Martinez, Anthony, Ronaldo, Maguire etc this season alone, and United fans have always made their own mind up about players. We all see what happens with our own eyes, these guys don’t have any influence other that this fake panic that people get when they say something wrong.

Actually the first time I haven't been able to find a justified excuse for what he's said. He owes Bruno an apology for the wanting to be subbed part, and that part only.

I must be the only United fan on the planet where Bruno's attitude has never really bothered me .

You don't, I don't, but people obviously do, or they wouldn't exist. You know the reality of United because you're heavily invested, but do you know the inner workings of liverpool or chelsea, or do you rely on the media to keep you informed on clubs your less personally invested in?
I have zero interest in the inner workings of Chelsea or Liverpool, or anyone outside of United, and I don’t get any of that information from Gary Neville, and even if I did, him saying something that I saw live and don’t agree with doesn’t mean he has any more influence than a drunk shouting the same nonsense in a bar. We all know it didn’t happen so how much influence can he have? It’s not like we live in a Gary Neville dictatorship where they’ve edited all the media to make it look like that’s what happened.

Bruno has been fantastic when we’re losing and has been the catalyst and creative outlet many of our comebacks.
And yes, he is getting shit for asking to be subbed off when he didn’t. It’s just a fact you can’t argue around

I'm sure that if Neville joined United 10 years earlier, he'd not appreciate all the negativity (even during an uptrend) because United aren't fulfilling Busby Babes standards. We didn't begin in 1993.

I must be the only United fan on the planet where Bruno's attitude has never really bothered me .

I don't care either, quite enjoy it actually. He's passionate AF and tries his heart out every game.

And that’s great until we go a couple down and he stops tracking back and starts stropping. If he wants to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem he has to stop doing that.

People/fans are alittle too obsessed and easily irked with the play acting and moaning of Bruno but I grew up on South American and Serie A football and that was far, far worse and yet it didnt bother me then either. I find it quite entertaining.

Fair point. I just think to say something that's just totally untrue is poor, and he should look to rectify that. He's unnecessarily added to a big pile on, and the big issue I had was saying something false. Probably because the performance and everything was awful I'm a bit like 'let's not add to that by adding false stuff, it was fecking bad enough on Sunday'

Thanks, I thought we were founded the same time as skysports until you clarified that. Silly comment.

neville is miserable, it’s who he is, he’s a fan who’s watching us have a shocking time, when we win or something good happens he’s the first to celebrate.
Sadly that hasn’t happened enough for any of us.

 Fair enough, it could be a master stroke from Neville actually. Everyone’s in here talking about something that didn’t happen and getting angry instead of talking about how shit we were and targeting the players and manager.

Great Mourinho-esque tactic from Neville.

Just rewatched him saying that about Bruno and it is worse than I remembered and he does directly say he’s asking why he’s not coming off. Yeah that wasn’t good, he really had his tits out with Bruno there

How do we know that?

Because I saw the clip being referenced when Neville said that's what he was doing, and he clearly wasn't asking to come off. And because reputable sources have come out and said he absolutely was not asking to come off. People have their own opinion, fine. But on the balance of probability at the least, Bruno was not asking to be subbed off. Therefore, what Neville said and peddled was false. Like countless other people have said in here other than myself.

 at the very least, I hope it was a kick up the backside for them all big time and there is a reaction on Thursday.

I have not seen the clip so fair enough. I just assumed he must have been waving at the bench or something for Neville to say that.

I don't really see why asking to come off is a big deal anyway. I know in recent months I'd rather a few Chelsea players had asked to come off rather than stay on and offer up zero effort on the pitch.

This backlash against Neville does kinda smell of redirected anger following a awful result from fans.

That might be a fair point too.
