Gabriel Jesus | Signs for City

A route that has worked for Brazilians in recent years is from Brazil to an Eastern European team before moving to a big club providing they do well in Europe initially.

Going straight to a big club hasn't worked out too well lately with the exception of Neymar. Pato looked like a world beater at one point and even early on with Milan but the lifestyle and injuries curtailed his career.

Douglas Costa and Willian were both rated in Brazil and went to Shakhtar and developed their game before moving to Bayern and Chelsea respectively where they are doing very well. Coutinho struggled at Inter when he went there apart from a few good games, luckily he has managed to resurrect his career somewhat at Liverpool.

Gabriel Jesus would struggle to get in most of the big teams, just being a part time sub used when there are injuries. If he moved to Shakhtar, he would get regular football in a CL team, and would get used to European football. If he impresses, then I'm sure the big clubs would come knocking after 1-2 years.
It goes both ways with this kind of approach. Taison (Chelsea chased after him aggressive before his move), Bernand, the doping (?) Fred... don't make great development and seem to got forgotten.

If you believe Jose when he says he asked for 4 positions to be filled, and that we have done 3 of them with a midfielder still to come, we probably aren't after this guy. I've never watched him but seems highly rated so would be interesting if we did sign him, especially as we would be snatching him out from under City's noses.

If a Brazilian talent has international aspirations, the Eastern Europe route is the worst thing they can do. They hardly ever get called up because the league isn't considered good enough.

Another problem with the Eastern European route is some of those very rich clubs have a tendency to then price them out of their next move. Costa should probably have left Shaktar sooner, and in general, they seem to spend quite a while there with a lot of enquiries being knocked back.

Not a Brazilian, but Witsel has basically been a prisoner at Zenit since he made that stupid move.

Suppose he meant 4 first team signings!!

He did indeed, he said as much in his first presser I think, he said we have 4 main signings to make and then he can relax and look at bringing in other players if the opportunity arises or something to that effect anyway.

Perhaps playing at a club with lower expectations / away from the pressure of having to be one of Europe's best does that for these players?

Rather than sending them to Russia, why not put them into a mid-table side in the PL so that they can get experience of a top league, without having to be top tier straight away. We should ask if Liverpool or some such club could be our feeder team, where we park these players until they are ready for our first team.

Salacious

News on twitter that he will go to city as when united asked for him, his Agents said player would rather develope under pep than under jose.

Where would we even play him? Surely he'd most likely start on the bench?

Obvious setup is obvious. Why wouldn't you wanna name drop united and say player 'x' picked their club ahead of United. This isn't the first time and it won't be the last time either.

I'm sure City would love it if we put in a last minute bid but...it just doesn't seem likely. Our squad needs to be trimmed as it is.

As I said in the twitter thread.. Obviously the journos added us in at last minute to spice it up. We weren't even mentioned before really.

Latest report is that he will be presented as a City player in July...2017. So another year in Brazil before coming to England, which is a wise decision.

We must offer whatever is needed.

Jesus or riot.

Not worth the effort. I'm sure in a couple years Barcelona or Madrid will come calling and he'll leave like most South American players do.

If we approached every transfer like some of the scared people on here do, we'd never sign anyone. 99% of players would go to Real or Barca if they came calling. It's not a good enough reason to not sign someone.

Yeah, I don't know why Dortmund bother signing the likes of Hummels and Lewandowski when they only end up at Bayern.
We're better off bringing 27-29 year olds that nobody wants in a couple of years.

Do you know something?

He's the best talent to come out of Brazil since Neymar, personally don't think he's anywhere close to his talent though.
What about Gabigol? Isn't he supposed to be the next big thing?

Whats wrong with Memphis then super scout?

The guy I replied to had said something like 'he isn't useless like Memphis he is good'. My reply was more to point out what if he disappoints too. After all Memphis was rated by a lot of clubs before he came to us.

Dutch media hyped him up, thats what happened. A lot of famous Dutch ex/current footballers told great things about him that werent true.

Watching the more recent videos of Gabriel Jesus and i was very impressed. I don't remember being overly convinved when news first broke of our interest a few months ago.

Plenty of young talented dribblers of the ball have pace but can easily be bullied off the ball due to their typically smaller frames; thus making the step up to professional football difficult. After watching highlight of GJ, he has pace, dribbling ability but also looks very strong holding off defenders with his back to them.

Ronaldo (brazilian) was a unique talent and there will likely never be another one, but GJ seems to have that blend between pace, power, dribbling ability and finishing. Could be a Potent striker in a few years time and I hope we are serious in our pursuit of him.

That maybe but he was one of the more sought after youngsters. He scored 12 in 13/14 and 27 in 14/15 and was subjected to bids from at least Liverpool and PSG.

And maybe even this guy is similarly hyped and would look out of depth in Europe
