Gabriel Jesus | Signs for City

I know absolutely nothing about this lad and I also believe it's just a rumour by their club to get more money from City...

But... Imagine the statement of out bidding Madrid and then coming in and taking your city rivals target

Bad news. I reckon Gabriel Jesus to have the potential to surpass Neymar, unlike any other Brazilian i've seen in the last few years. I really hate Pepe!
By Gabriel's current age, Neymar already led his team to the CL equivalent of South America. I don't watch Brazilian football regularly, but those who have said Neymar wiped the floor with everyone else. I don't see Gabriel being highly regarded in the same manner, and there's definitely a huge difference of quality in terms of highlights videos.

10 goals 4 assists in 14 matches in Brazil's Serie A so far.

A lot of Neymar's flashy Santos highlights and goals come from the state championships, which is basically a watered down capital one cup. Jesus has produced in Serie A and U20 world cup.

Unrivaled really.Neymar was/is beasty.

Is there a player out there with a better Youtube compilation than Neymar pre Barca days. I knew from then that he was going to be an absolute megastar. Because not only was he flashy, but his goal output was crazy too.

Having watched that video, one could build a strong case that Neymar is even better than Memphis.

You think Gabriel can go on to be as good as Neymar? Neymar looks miles ahead technically.

Just seen one YouTube clip and can't say I saw anything special. Having said that, YouTube clips are probably the worst possible way to judge players!

His contract situation seems to be very complicated as the club only owns 30%, he himself owns 15% and the rest are owned by his agents! That's probably one of the reasons why no one has taken a punt on him yet even though he's been linked to every club in the world.

Well tbf they kinda need more attacking players for their squad. Sane would be a starter. No chance Gabriel would be anything more than a squad player for this season. He could probably be brought on as a striker late in a game in Guardiola's system. I'm guessing Navas isn't going to be kept around for long, same with Yaya. Not sure how highly Pep rates Sterling either, then he'll have a decision to make with an ageing Silva, not this season, but certainly in the next few years. So he definitely needs to be looking to improve the youth in their squad (along with their defence, their defence is truly awful).

The reports about this guy regarding City state he will stay on loan at Palmeiras, so he wouldn't be involved under Pep initially. I'd be surprised if the reports were true given we are supposed to be signing Sane and already signed Moreno, another highly rated South American attacker.

Didn't Neymar end up costing Barca like €120m after paying his dad etc? I know everyone brushes the real figure under the carpet, but this guy is going to cost less than a third of that, if he becomes even remotely close to the level Neymar has shown then it'd be a bargain! €35m is about what Ronaldo cost us all those years ago counting inflation.

It funny seeing post like this because a few years ago and I'm not saying you said it but wasn't the consensus that Neymar was overrated, new Robinho, etc. All I'm saying is we don't know how G. Jesus will pan out but he is a very good talent and he could be as good as Neymar or better.

First TFM, then Chong, now Gabigol. United hogging both the Galacticos, and the wonderkids. Come on Woody, blow that cash!

Not too arsed either way. Never actually watched him play, but we have plenty of promising players and now have good starters too. Martial, Mkhitaryan, Mata, Young, Lingard, Memphis, Januzaj and Rooney all who will play in the 3 behind the striker. Memphis and Januzaj were incredibly highly rated a year and 2 years ago, so just need that confidence boost back and to develop. Lingard and Young are good squad players. First 3 are all excellent players at their best, with Martial having huge potential as well. Then Rooney who is on the decline but still the captain and can have a good impact. Plenty of depth there, so if we sign this kid, then we would need to start selling a few.

I'm curious, people are saying there are truckloads of hyper youngsters from brazil that fail in europe.

I hope you guys aren't referencing Kerlon, Keirrison and players of sorts. Just because some ignorant european journo hypes them, doesn't mean they were actually hyped or had huge hopes by fans over here. Some poster here mentioned Rafael, a guy that left at 15 years of age with about 5 people knowing who he was and zero hype whatsoever..

The only legit hyped youngsters I recall in my lifetime were Ronaldinho in Gremio, Robinho and Neymar in Santos (with their sidekicks, Diego and Ganso) and Pato in Inter. Jesus doesn't come close to that level of hype yet (appearing in big tv shows, commercials etc)

Just watch what he does, he's nothing like Memphis. His composure, ball control, imagination, ability to attack with menace from both flanks,.I could go on. Not in the same league.

Memphis looked a world beater in Holland but not here.

I'm wary of signing such players from Brazil league. Lucas silva was the next best thing yet he is not even average it turns out. Other than Neymar most players have hardly lit up the world.

Seriously? You could make an absurdly long list of Brazilians who had great careers in Europe.

I watched Memphis play a handful of times for Holland, and he showed certain attributes like when the ball is running his way he's able to use his physical strength to shrug opponents and make space for himself. Also if he has time and space he can deliver pinpoint passes.
But this guy has more pace, agility, the flair to take on defenders and beat them, to bring other forwards into the game.
Of course there's no guarantee that any player will come and play with great passion for us. That aspect can only be taken at face value, but if I took a £30mil punt on Jesus, or Memphis I would opt for the former.

Brazilian, good YouTube, the combined name of an archangel and the lord himself - this one just can't go wrong.

21 feels like the right age to develop culture and values.

If the players are good enough then it helps all parties. A European club buying a 18 year old Brazilian 'Superstar' but when he arrives doesn't live up to the hype. He sticks it out until hes 21 and he will have showcased his skills and developed better as a player, meaning the European club buying him now will have to stump up more money to get the player. It helps everyone involved in it, even the buying club who are outlaying a bigger chunk of money. It provides less risk than buying an 18 year old player who may just stay in the reserves and not fully live up to his potential as not getting enough competitive game time.
At 18 you are a grown man or adult in most quarters of the world so you should be allowed to play where you want, when you want. You should not be treated like a kid. Wouldn't that be against his human rights or something. We recognize that you are now an adult but we can't let you leave Brazil because you are too young..............

A route that has worked for Brazilians in recent years is from Brazil to an Eastern European team before moving to a big club providing they do well in Europe initially.

Going straight to a big club hasn't worked out too well lately with the exception of Neymar. Pato looked like a world beater at one point and even early on with Milan but the lifestyle and injuries curtailed his career.

Douglas Costa and Willian were both rated in Brazil and went to Shakhtar and developed their game before moving to Bayern and Chelsea respectively where they are doing very well. Coutinho struggled at Inter when he went there apart from a few good games, luckily he has managed to resurrect his career somewhat at Liverpool.

Gabriel Jesus would struggle to get in most of the big teams, just being a part time sub used when there are injuries. If he moved to Shakhtar, he would get regular football in a CL team, and would get used to European football. If he impresses, then I'm sure the big clubs would come knocking after 1-2 years.
