My understanding is you can.

It's probably best not to as there probably must be some coherence between the manager's stats and how they prefer playing. Also, probably more fun to draft to the given tactics and see how it plays out. It's a more interesting experiment IMO.

Was really tempted (never had Lothar) but Cruyff's profile stating he doesn't like playing target men didn't leave me much room for manoeuvre in the striker department if I missed out on O Baixinho. Not news, just a very clear indication the AI would punish me.

Likewise Baresi. Getting the best defenders for a manager who doesn't care much for that art seems a bit pointless. Basketball scores here we come!

Lovely little player. I never feared a Brazilian striker more than him. He was immune to mind games or roughing up, actually, he only raised his game in the face of it.

There's a story about him asking Cruyff for two days off to go to the Rio Carnival. The boss told him if he scored two on Sunday he could go.

That Sunday, twenty minutes into the game, Romario has his brace already. He goes up to Cruyff and asks to be subbed off.

JC: "We are not even halfway through the game yet"

Yup. Can't really see Platini in a 4-4-2.

Game mechanics might be different tbf, but in reality Platini might find Sacchi's stringent tactical approach and his team-first mentality a bit suffocating. Not that Platini was a lazy bum or something but he'd normally expect more tactical freedom and room potentially, from his manager.

Yeah. Not sure how strict are the managers with their preferred formation - I would expect them to change it if their star player is a natural #10 that is seriously restricted up front/as a part of a central duo.
