Final | Spain vs England

He's right. England got to the final by luck and shithousery with a very poor coach and some pretty good players. That's just the facts. Any decent team would have beaten them.

How did they get to the final by luck? They were the better team in everyone of their knock out games, and didn’t lose a game until the final, which ended up being very close despite coming up against the best team in the tournament. The anti-English, anti-Southgate bias is just so evident in these posts. And fair enough, feel the way you want, but also be prepared to be told to go feck yourself.

Can see this Spain side winning the next World Cup as well. Nations League, then European Championships.

Highly doubt it. They’re quite an average side playing around another bunch of average sides tbh. They’ll be lost in the shuffle if the other teams get their act together with proper managers.

Commiseration and congratulations to the England for their great perf... Nah.

Choking as soon as they meet a decent team and Hype FC is fecking going home, as always.

Football has won, give Southgate another 6 years contract.

Again we go behind, wake up, score and then just sit back. 4 knock out games and we've created f@@k all. The international equivalent of moments fc

Not sure why England didn't keep going when it went to 1-1. Spain looked a bit shaky

in the end, it was absolutely deserved win for the best team in the whole tournament with vast majority of neutrals also getting the outcome they wanted.

on one side you have England with the most boring manager around, playing their usual shitty football and stinking the place out, getting lucky with the draw yet again while also getting dodgy penalties awarded by referees previously suspended for match fixing. they also field one of the biggest primadonnas in football, such as Bellingham. very little to like there tbf. it's no wonder that bands like Coldplay come from England of all places.

and then you have Spain, playing positive and creative brand of football with some very young players that are actually fairly likeable compared to some diving cnuts they used to have in previous championships. they also eliminated Germany and France, while toying with Croatia and Italy in their group.

this was the preferred outcome for pretty much every neutral fan. bar Germany and Spain, none of those bigger nations even tried to play attractive football and entertain the fans so it's fitting that we got the new champion from one of those two.

yaaaasay.

Jesus talk about a lack of grace.

The funny thing is, of all the shite exports this country has to offer, you pick Coldplay, an innocuous and widely loved band; I’m no Coldplay fan but Chris Martin seems like quite a likeable bloke, and has an excellent relationship with his ex-wife, which is usually a good sign.

Very weird post.

In one hand Southgates pragmatism, has got us to 2 finals and a semi, but in the other you could argue his pragmatism has also lost us those same games.

Delicate balance, when it gets tight he goes pragmatic and just hopes to stay in the game and get a goal from somewhere, it's worked well enough to geus deep In numerous tournaments, but ultimately the game was as there tonight after we equalised, go for it, go and win it. Instead it was back to plan A no big risk hope to keep Spain out.

Ultimately he hasn't learnt from his mistakes of the past. And that has cost him and England tonight.

Funny how Rodri's eyebrows have come back since he's been away from City...

That was England’s best game of the tournament, weirdly. We pushed a side who will go down as one of the best tournament sides for a long time nearly all the way. Fantastic game and proud of them despite it all. We didn’t choke, the boys stood up. Just got beaten by a really, really good side.

Great result for the tournament. The only team that stood out and wanted to play, won.
Well deserved. Congrats to Spain.

We would have a lost to Germany, Portugal or France. Lots call a spade a spade. We were shit as we didn’t try to play any type of system that resembles football.

We create close to 0 chances per game.

It really wasn't. What is it with this part match logic. Our best game was Vs Netherlands, not even close.

Thought Fabian Ruiz was excellent again tonight as he has been all tournament.

wanted him at United when PSG bought him from Napoli.

Anyone thinks England were the tournament’s second best team? Not too sure but they were the best throwback/tribute team. It was like watching a team from the 80’s trying to compete with a modern side. They have good defenders. They have guts, perseverance, and discipline. England have very good players all over the pitch. But sometimes it almost seems like they were set up to play an entirely different sport.

He's had a dreadful tournament apart from 1 or 2 moments. Talented young player but miles off being the finished product.
Why are all these new accounts being created to crap on Bellingham. Surely there are 20 players in the England team that played worse than him? What’s the agenda here?

does anyone have a stat on how many times we lost possession to Pickford long kicks.. it made no sense, Kane wasn’t receiving anything and half the kicks went to Sara who‘s about 5 foot

The last euros was the one that was there for the taking. Should never have lost to Italy

One or two subs and England win the last Euros, that Italian team were out on their feet, but so were England and Southgate left it like that rather than bringing on the dynamic attackers on the bench that would have tormented the aging Italian defence.

making a change on 119' was really the epitome of stupidity.

One or two different starters and a willingness to be positive with those changes and today would of been 2022 levels of excitement. Not saying England would have won, but the 5-10 minutes where they chased the game with Palmer and Watkins on was the best period for England, and the best period for a neutral surely.

Hard not to feel sorry for Southgate. He was gracious in defeat. Three good goals and thank feck no penalties

Definitely hurts, but Spain clearly were the best team of the tournament and deserved winners. Think we pushed them close though. Ran out of luck towards the end.

I don’t know why, but that hurts so much more than the Italy game. I guess back to back finals will do that?

I hope I’m wrong, but that feels like two big chances we won’t get in a long time to win something. Maybe that’s just the post match gloom kicking in.

From a German perspective, I'm actually quite happy with the result. I really believe that we were at least equal to Spain. Since Nagelsmann took over the helm, some hope is slowly growing again.

It was awful, those players had no chance to settle for the shootout. Really what harm would it have done to have given a fresh Rashford extra time to run at the Italian defence? I'll never understand his thinking in that final.

Agree with this to some extent, but I think the change which got the goal also left us open. Middle of the pitch looked wide open as soon as we swapped Palmer for Mainoo. After all this time, still could never find the balance in midfield.

Netherlands were fecking woeful. It was a terrible side of the draw with little quality. Turkey probably should have been in the semi final

I bet the English players are still practicing penalties right before the game. You can't do that against Spain. You may be able to pull a draw against Italy because Italy is more defensive in nature but not against Spain.

In the final, you have to go all out. You cannot play for penalty shootout.

Meh I think this tournament has shown 1 thing. Most international sides in Europe are bloody terrible.

Only just caught the highlights. I had a feeling England would get it done tonight but having seen the way things panned out, the gulf between the two NTs and more importantly their respective culture of excellence is clear. It’s an obvious part of the Spanish ethos to control matches play games cohesive, intelligent and technical football, whereas England’s is built around keep it tight and hopefully the attackers produce. Until there’s a proper shift towards aiming for something better, they’ll struggle to ever be the best team on the planet. They might still win a cup if they get another Italy in a final (who they also forgoed control against).

The win / loss IMO is more about the respective national team’s footballing culture (or heritage) than just about the respective squads
