Fabregas wants to go to Barcelona

Fabregas' statement is hardly the ringing endorsement.

"I cannot deny that joining a club like Barcelona was not an attractive move for me. This was the club where I learnt my football, it is my home town where my friends and family are and a club where I have always dreamed of playing."

"I am a professional and I fully understand that it is Arsenal's prerogative not to sell me."

If I was an Arsenal fan, I wouldn't feel to confident about Fabregas' commitment to Arsenal. Seems he saying he will stay because he has no choice, Arsenal won't sell him, so he will make the best of a bad situation.

I wouldn't be happy about his comments as an Arsenal fan, but it's better than lying and pretending nothing has happened.

Well yes, they all know he wants to go to Barcelona, he's not hiding that, but he's respecting Arsenal's decision, atleast he's not handing in a transfer request

It doesn't make for great reading but it's better than bullshitting. At least we can forget about it (til next summer).

I am not really sure how transfers work, but if he puts in a transfer request, doesn't that mean he receives no part of the transfer fee and loses any loyalty bonus he may have written into his contract?

I couldn't tell you, I was using it as a symbol of him telling the 'club to sell him now' but Fabregas would rather stay flopping on the trophy side than disrespect the club that helped shaped him

I understand he doesn't want to disrespect Arsenal, he seems like a nice kid and he's probably genuinely torn over the situation. However it sounds to me his heart isn't in it anymore and it brings up the question do you really want to keep a player who wants to be elsewhere.

That is the key problem, and I truly hope this backfires on Wenger

Fabregas is a pro and he doesn't hate Arsenal he just wants to go home, he'll give his all - you'll see.

Barca release a Statement

Barcelona have moved to officially declare their disappointment with the news that Cesc Fabregas will stay with Arsenal for the time being.

The Blaugrana had been incessantly chasing the Gunner over the course of the summer, with the story resembling a soap opera as the ‘will-he-won’t-he’ plot continued from a similar saga last summer. Fabregas moved to finally end speculation earlier on Friday, when an official statement was issued indicating that he will not be drawn away from the Emirates this summer.

Reciprocating, Barcelona made a press release of their own.

In the light of the statement released today regarding the contractual future of Cesc Fabregas, FC Barcelona regrets the decision of Arsenal FC to declare the player not for sale and their decision not to take into consideration the offers proposed. None of those offers, in any way, exceeded €40 million.”

Though the case would appear to be over, it would be little surprise to see newspaper speculation regarding Cesc’s future crop up before the end of August.

we were all doubting ronnie's commitment when he bailed us out in the back end of 09 in europe. lads like ronnie and fabregas will give it 100% when they cross the line onto the pitch.

However, I do think he is off next summer. It is just like ronaldo in 08. Wenger has probably said what fergie said to ronnie. "give me one more season and i'll give you your move"

Barcelona should shut the feck up. I hope Real rip 'em a new one. More than a club/ A bunch of cnuts and muffdivers.

Not an issue, the fans love him, and he has shown when on the pitch he gives nothing but 100% for Arsenal. He will do the same this season, and will get a good send off, when he more than likely moves on next season.

Not handing in a transfer request is hardly a massiv show of loyalty. It's mainly about not being stupid enough to spend his last season as a hate figure, without making any real difference to the outcome.

Totally on your side on this one peter. I hope Real win La Liga this season, not because I love Real, but Barca need to come to planet earth for a bit.

But I must say, out of all the Spanish/Barcelona players, funnily enough Fabregas is the one who seems to have maintained some dignity. The rest have just been utterly classless.

Well if he did hand in a transfer request, Wenger would truly know that he can't give his all to Arsenal and would have no choice but to listen to Bacelona, people are underestimating the power Fabregas has to push this transfer through.

do you honestly think Madrid winning LaLiga would make a bit of difference to how Barca have handled things?

No but I'd like them suffer a bit. And I don't think anyone gets on their nerves like Mourinho does. That CL defeat would have felt like hell for them.

Is true.

It's not true, Fabregas could have done alot more to push this transfer through if it was not fo his respect for Arsenal fans and Wenger.

He can't really. I don't think he wants to be hated at Arsenal much like Ronaldo didn't want to be hated with us (but still a portion managed to). And like with Ronaldo and Fergie, he has a great relationship with Wenger. So he's just being clever by not fecking things up with his current club. And given his contract and the inevitability of the transfer, it just MAKES SENSE to bide your time and let it happen, because it will either this summer or the next.

Given the length of his contract (I think it's very long), he's not in a position to call the shots really. Arsenal are in a position of strength.

Like what? Hand in a transfer request. Makes feck all difference and rules out the possibility of convincing people like yourself that he's saying put out of loyalty (as opposed to Barca letting him down by not meeting Arsenal's price)

I don't see the power he has honestly. I think I'm correct in saying that he has a very very long contract with Arsenal. Wenger can sell him whenever he feels like, Barcelona will want him next summer and the one after that just as much as they want now. He can just sit on it if he wants waiting for 50 million.

Besides, Fabregas will become a hate figure at Arsenal if he handed in a transfer request and as Pogue said, he might HAVE to stay at Arsenal another season and it would be hell for him if both those things happened.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know when Fabregas actually signed his last contract - not just it's quoted end date.

I remember thinking that's a awfully long contract at the time. If he had signed a 5-6 year deal instead he would be chilling in Spain right now.

Yep, the lengh of the contract was crazy, what on earth was he thinking?

Maybe Wenger assured the young lad that Arsenal would be competing for titles and not signing guys like Sylvestre

Barca have been complete and utter shithouses over this pursuit. Worse than Real. Any chance of Fifa getting involved?
