Fabregas wants to go to Barcelona

FIFA have already told clubs that they won't enforce contracts of longer than 5 years if it's against the player's wishes. Talk about 8 year and lifetime contracts is just for show. However there might be some kind of renewal mechanism in there and almost certainly some kind of financial penalty.

If the contract really was signed in 2006 (and didn't get extended in some renewal process) then it raises the question of the Webster ruling which kicks in three years from when a contract is signed. It would be a shocking precedent if he did use it and they'd spend quite a few months in front of arbitration to agree a fee but I suspect it'd be closer to what Barca want than what Arsenal wants.

Hmmm, well we'll see next May then.

Fabregas is a humble lad, well done to him for showing complete loyalty

I know how hard it must be to turn up to training alongside Diaby,Eboue,Walcott,Denilson etc and not think of better days

Much respect

I like you Boss.

Wenger, whose team face Polish side Legia Warsaw this afternoon, said: "I am over the moon Cesc is staying.

"It is important for the whole of football that Arsenal are successful, so there is not only one way of success that involves just putting a huge amount of money in.

"There has to be another way as well. It is important for football that players do not move when someone comes in and says 'we want him.'

"We were never in a position where we wanted Cesc to go. We invested a lot of energy and work in creating a team of young players and we want them to stay at the club.

"Cesc is our captain. You see in training how much he lifts everyone.

"I met so many people at the World Cup and the first words were always 'don't let Fabregas go.'.

"Cesc has cleared the air. It was very important he came out clearly and now we can move on.

"We are only one week away from the start of the season and we needed everyone to be focused and settled."

Wenger admitted Fabregas and Robin van Persie, who have just returned to training following post-World Cup holidays, will definitely NOT be ready for the season's opener at Liverpool next Sunday.

He added: "Both of them will be short against Liverpool.

"Fabregas came back on Thursday and on Monday he goes to Mexico with Spain to play an international friendly.

"Mentally to go to the World Cup and be ready three weeks later is a massive thing. The same applies to Van Persie."

That whole young team speech does my fecking head in

And the funny thing it's only recently that he's come up with the whole "I've always wanted to play for Barcelona" shit. I remember an interview with him only two or three years or so ago when he said he loved Arsenal and saw himself finishing his career at Arsenal. Funny how some players suddenly discover live-long dreams they've never had in the first place.

Like what? Hand in a transfer request. Makes feck all difference and rules out the possibility of convincing people like yourself that he's saying put out of loyalty (as opposed to Barca letting him down by not meeting Arsenal's price)
The one and only reason this saga has had the shutters drawn on it... at least until next summer.

It was updated about 18 months ago and runs til 2015.

Assuming that renewal included a contract extension then it protects the contract from the Webster Ruling until the end of the 2011/12 season. So they'd still have to bid high next summer.

Meanwhile I've no doubt that Fabregas will give Arsenal his best efforts this year. The best players don't know how not to try.

Barcelona midfielder Xavi insists Cesc Fabregas's stay at Arsenal could only be temporary. The Gunners captain, subject to speculation regarding a move to the Nou Camp, revealed last week he would remain at the Emirates. Xavi said: "We've given up on the idea of him arriving now but maybe he'll come in January when Arsenal are out of the Premier League race. They can't just hold him against his will."

It's funny but they have zero class whatsoever, these Barca players.

He should worry more about how they'll get on against Mourinho's Real.

Why do players in Spain open their gobs and speak about issues that is none of their business?

He should worry more about how they'll get on against Mourinho's Real.

A dreadful season for Barca results in finishing 2nd (the rest of La Liga are just there to make up the numbers).

An amazing season for Arsenal and you still might not finish in the top 2.

Pretty depressing thought for you.

Still no decent goalkeeper...

I wonder if next season Real Madrid have a great one, and shows signs of interest for Fabregas how quickly he'd forget all this Barcelona in his blood bullshit.

I love how everyone is looking to Mourinho to end Barcelonas run in la liga. Everyone knows it takes him a season to really get going.

Didn't he win the prem and serie a in his first year?

That would be the same Mourinho who won the Portuguese league, the Premier League and the Serie A in his first full season in each league?

Porto, best team in Portugal forever...

Chelsea, best squad in the league and he added a few key components that they were missing.

Inter, best team by a mile in Italy.

My point is not that he doesnt do well, more that it takes him a season to get his team to be HIS team.

That is because you are a Barca fan. The La Liga title this year will be decided by who bests the other side in the El Classico. My money is on Jose to spring a shock at the Nou camp.

Villa gives Fabregas some good advice

DAVID VILLA has told Cesc Fabregas to focus on his Arsenal career — to boost his chances of joining Barcelona next year.

The Spanish champions failed to lure Fabregas to the Nou Camp after the Gunners rejected a final bid of £35million for their captain earlier this month.

But the 23-year-old World Cup winner admitted it would be a dream to return to the club where he started his career as a schoolboy.

However, Barca new boy Villa has advised his Spain team-mate to concentrate on giving his all for Arsenal this season — in the hope it will help him engineer a move next summer.

Villa said: "What I'd say to Cesc is to do what I did — concentrate on your club and give everything for your team.

"Football does not stop here and, after all, sooner or later he'll end up playing for Barca.

"What he should do is keep showing the great form he has been doing for the next season. He will have this opportunity again next year.

"While he is with Arsenal, he should just play as well as he can."

But Villa admitted he and the rest of the Barcelona squad are frustrated at the club's failure to secure Fabregas' services this summer.

He added: "It is annoying because we wanted to have him here because he is a friend and a great player.

"But mostly it's annoying because he's a great kid.

"I'm sure he'll have another chance and end up wearing the Barca shirt."

I Had To Stay

Barcelona Did Everything To Sign Me, But I'm Focussed On Arsenal - Cesc Fabregas - Goal.com

Barcelona did everything to sign me, but Arsenal told me I had to stay - Cesc Fabregas
Spanish international leaves future open...

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas admits Barcelona did all they could to prise him away this summer, but that he was told he had to stay put by the Gunners.

The Spanish ace has become a poster boy for the Catalans who, according to Sport, will sign him in 10 months.

But reflecting on the summer that has passed, the Gunners skipper said he was left with no choice but to stay at the Emirates Stadium as the transfer saga reached its conclusion.

"Barcelona made every effort to sign me, but Arsenal had told me to stay, which in no way I was going to refuse, and in the end I had to stay," Cesc told Publico.

Fabregas believes that the season with Arsenal will be "a long one" but above all he wants to "be professional and give it everything".

On his future away from the Emirates though, the playmaker observed he had not made a decision as he drew the line on Barcelona talk.

"What happens in the future? We'll see," he added. "I do not think of anything because if I think of the future it would not let me focus on the present and I would have a bad year."
