Why do people assume he will be our LB when Fellaini and Carrick are leaving meaning two midfield positions are available? Fred will arrive which leaves one more midfield spot. He has played at Monaco in midfield in the majority of the season too.

This signing makes a lot of sense. He can provide cover in midfield (we will end up with Matic, Pogba, Fred, Herrera, Fabinho) while playing regularly at RB

I'd say Monaco's best player. Hasn't played as RB though, which is where I'd hope he would play for us.

I would say Rony Lopes takes that title but Fabinho has been consistent as always.

Because he is not cheap by what being rumored that Monaco wants. We're not really in position to spend big buck for rotational option. If we pay big bucks, it should be on starter material in position we need upgrade on

We've been linked with him for years havent we? I remember after the last world cup, talks of him coming in to replace Rafael.

Solid.

In all honesty, would prefer him and Fred over Savic. Fabinho would suit us much better and give us better overall team balance. Even though Savic may be the ‘better’ player, he would be sort of forced to fit in whereas Fred and Fabinho would give true balance to the things we need.

I'd be happy with this signing.

Can play DM or RB (2 problem areas for us)

Unsure how good attacking wise he is from RB though?

What I like about Fabinho is his grit, he's got that winning mentality and good game management, something we lack big time

Fabinho would be a terrific signing, exactly what we'd need. Can be cover or starter in midfield, while at the same time being starter or cover for right back depending on injuries/form of others. Problem with our midfield will be having 4 players around a good level, but still needing a bit more cover in case of injuries. So having a versatile player who can start in multiple positions is what we need imo.

Having a RB who has the footballing ability to play in midfield can only help our quality of football surely?

Different player same question:

How isn’t he in the Brazil squad? Don’t know their RB’s and could also play CM? Just not rated by the boss?

Who’s the English Di Marzio?

BBC guys maybe?

Actually no BBC is basically only comes into picture when things are almost done at that time almost all major media outlets gets briefing from the club they hardly put their name out on line for any transfer news.

Simon Stone and David Ornstein are the english equivalents.

Simon Stone rarely breaks news stories until it becomes well known and everyone's thinking it will definitely happen.

I'd go with Orny, he reveals stuff about Arsenal mostly well ahead of others.

Also Fabinho said this when asked about United rumour.
( Its an old quote, not a new one )

‘My objective is to get to a club with the dimension of Manchester United,’ the Brazilian told FourFourTwo.

‘I have no clue if one day I’ll be a United player, but I’ll keep on working so it stops being a rumour and becomes reality.’

If we want him, he's ours.

Not really much to do with 'breaking' stories but rather having reliable sources. Most breaking news is basically made up or a merry go round of sourcing.

BBC is virtually confirmation because they don't put something out unless they are very confident it's true. They don't try to release news for the sake of it.

Ornstein and Di Marzio are anomalies. They seem to get early information that is generally accurate.

There are few reporters who are very reliable for some clubs.
Arsenal have Orenstein, City have that Sam Lee guy, Liverpool have some guys too, can't remember their names.
Also Matt Law is kind of reliable for Chelsea.

But no English Jurno has as many contacts as Di Marzio, that guy has contacts all over Europe.
For French news Bouhafsi of RMC is very reliable

A summer overhaul is much needed!

That's what I meant. That's very decent of them, but it also means nothing. By the time they confirm anything, the player is all but holding the club jersey anyway.

In contrast, di Marzio, Bouhafsi and Orny (who does work for BBC anyway) are reliable in terms of sources, don't do click-bait and reveal ahead of schedule. That's more impressive than the likes of Simon Stone.

He's a good DM which would be his long term role I guess, not a big fan of him at RB but he'd be able to cover Valencia for a season.

You are right. Simon Stone is quite a safe journalist.

We’ve been linked with half the Brazilian squad within a week.

Fabinho, Fred, Talistsa, Neymar, A.Sandro.

He is not seen as RB in Brazil. In the midfield Casemiro is starter and Fernandinho his replacement. Theres no place for Fabinho.

There should be. I would play both Casemiro and Fernandinho with a fluid attack ahead of them - any 4 from Neymar, Coutinho, Firmino, Willian, Costa, Jesus.
Then Fabinho and Fred as their deputies. Fabinho's versatility should have given him an advantage, he'd walk into most sides at the tournament.

Would we agree that those 2 are better or maybe just different style? Or the gap in talent isn’t that much he’s just the odd man out?

Fred and Sandro is a much more likely combination for us to sign IMO. I think Fabinho will go elsewhere now, such as Atletico as rumoured.

Willian, Douglas Costa. If you want to include Portuguese speaking community, Cancelo and Neves.

Its because the tactic is 4-1-4-1 so Coutinho is considered a midfielder too. Then there's Paulinho and Fred. Fabinho should be be named instead of Renato Augusto for sure, but Renato played the entire wc qualifier...

I dont think its about who is a better individual footballer. Its more about the balance of the team. Jorginho for example, was waiting until the last moment to play for Brazil, before playing for Italy but Tite did not call him. I believe a midfield with Fabinho-Jorginho-Arthur is better than what we have in the wc, but the team is working well now, so no reason to change.

I would say Rony Lopes takes that title but Fabinho has been consistent as always.

Nah, Fabinho, Lemar, Falcao, Sidibé and Glik are all better than Rony. I like him but despite his goals, he is too much at the periphery of Monaco's overall game to be seen like the best player.

Hmm since swapsies are all the rage recently, I wonder if we might end up swapping Martial + say £25m for Fabinho & Sidibe.

Martial gets to return to his tax-free home & rejuvenate his career. We get rid of a player who doesn't want to renew & wants out while attaining both the players Bouhafsi claims we're after.

It's not tax free, he is french.
