Good argument except that Matic and Fabinho are actually different in many ways even though they occupy the same section of the midfield. Also, the need for tactical flexibility can make it a huge advantage to have both on the pitch at times. We should remember that one of Fabinho's outstanding traits is his turn of pace (and pace). He is also a good passer of the ball and likes to bomb forward. Something he picked up as an adventorous right back. Let's also not forget Matic's evolution as a midfielder. He does not only have the ability to break up play but with a solid partner, he can play a DLP role well.
I think that in certain types of games, a Matic-Fabinho combo can provide solidity, stability and complete attacking freedom for Pogba. A Fabinho can be a substitute for Matic, a partner to him in some games and an option for right back.
I wouldn't consider Fabinho particularly quick, and for me both him and Matic are decent passers without being top class playmakers, they are Fletcher's, not Carricks and IMO we need the latter in the mix in some form. I just feel that we'll run into the exact same problems as if we used Herrera or Fellaini in the role, do a job options but lacking either ball carrying or creative qualities to aid Pogba in supplying the attack.
If Fabinho comes in he'd prevent the high quality CM we need also coming in as neither will accept being bench players, that's why I'd avoid him as he's not going to be just added into the Herrera/Fellaini role as well as us buying a top class playmaker.
