Arsenal and Liverpool to bid €90,000,000 for her in the summer
Come on now GB, we all know Arsenal would bid €90,000,001.

Been recently linked with him.
If Jose is going to persist with a 4231, then a double pivot of Matic/Fabinho would be solid. Would also be Matic's natural successor.
Erm because we signed Matic?Still find it quite bizarre we didn’t sign him in the summer. He’d bring so much to our midfield.
Erm because we signed Matic?
The only way he'd make any sense is if he was being brought in to compete with Matic at the base as the them two together would be so negative and I don't think he's fast enough or dynamic enough at RB for what we need.
What would you think of having Fosu-Mensah do that instead?Perfect choice to rotate with Matic (something we've been crying out for this season) and then eventually take over fully from him and solidify that DM spot once Matic is too old.
Who is the back up for Matic when he's out for a while?
Right now I think Mctominay seems ahead of the pack.Who is the back up for Matic when he's out for a while?
We have many times this season already. Its by far our strongest formation. Why would we play with two DMs?

I actually thought they were, based on the little I've seen of Fabinho. Also a DM with a a good engine/physique, decent passing range, like Matic. He’s really not an overly defensive midfielder. Quite obvious a lot of people here don’t watch him play too often.
He’s nothing like Matic.
Do you mean Herrera and Matic? As Herrera's more box-to-box.We have many times this season already. Its by far our strongest formation.

Shows you how little I know.
Yeah, i think people (myself included) maybe assume Fabinho is too defensive/doesn't offer enough offensively to partner Matic. But based on what you write, it sounds like he'd have little issue contributing offensively. He’s far more of a destroyer than a holding player and is brilliant at carrying the ball forward - He gets involved with the attack far more than Matic and gets involved all over the pitch.
Matic is closer to a Carrick type where Fabinho would be more similar to Keane stylistically. I’m amazed people think they couldn’t play together, I think they’d compliment each other brilliantly.

Also what I really like about Fabinho is his versatility to play either in a defensive midfield position or being able to spring forward and support the attack.
This would give us so much flexibility during a game.
Consider that in Monaco's brilliant league winning season, Fabinho contributed 12 goals to the cause.
That's a very healthy return from a defensive player
Di Marzio is saying this?
Edit nvm it was a made up Metro story
Aye, 12 goals is immense. And even more so for a "defensive" player. He took penalties though, right?Consider that in Monaco's brilliant league winning season, Fabinho contributed 12 goals to the cause.

Matic is not negative by any stretch of imagination. In fact, if anything, it is Jose that's probably asking him to hold back more for defensive stability.
Right now I think Mctominay seems ahead of the pack.
By negative I just mean they are both sitters, DM's who's main focus is protecting the back 4 and keeping it simple most of the time, it's what they do best, you don't need two of those playing at the same time, neither are going to ease the creative burden on Pogba or help us add some tempo and rhythm to our possession.
I get your point but it is not strange in modern football to play two DMs. In fact many famous teams have done so with brilliant effect. Busquet has played well with Mascherano. He has also played well with Alonso in the Spanish national team. We have also seen Martinez combine well with Bastian. We have also seen Matic play well with Kante. The examples are many. The key is for the two players to have diverse skill sets and for the opposition to require such a formation. Matic, as a DM, has the capacity to switch from a deep lying playmaker role to a holding midfielder role or a B2B role.
Call it the double pivot or whatever, at times two DMs can give you defensive stability, possession advantage or allow your other midfielder(s) attacking liberty.
I see the sense in considering buying a Fabinho.
Busquets is a class DLP though and mostly played with offensive CM combo's like Xavi and Iniesta or Rakatic and Iniesta, and Schweini was a world class box to box in that system, Matic and Fabinho are neither, both are good holding players that protect the back 4 well, but neither have the dynamism or creativity to be a box to box, nor do they offer a goal threat, on top of that Pogba is not a #10, the 3rd CM we need is one that can provide a bridge between Matic and Pogba, not 2 DM's to sit square of each other that will see Pogba end up central in what would become a 4-2-3-1.
I could see Fabinho to compete with Matic, but not as a partner, not unless we want to become more negative than we already are in our play style, it would be akin to playing two Mascherano's.
