Pretty sure it's in the regulations that he pretty much can.
One thing for sure is it’s going to make next season even more exciting, going to enjoy the build up when it all starts.
i reckon they’ll let hamilton race with those ben hur chariot wheel spikes to stop max trying to push him off the road.

Let's very much put it on someone who has made awful calls for both sides all season. Verstappen won because Masi wanted to give them a 'motor race' as he put it. He threw the rule book out and made it up as he went along. There was no conceivable reason, stress or no stress, to allow only 5 cars to unlap themselves apart from 'For TV' as Lando put it.
Now that's the kind of sports entertainment I can get behind.

Masi sequence:
1). Message all drivers that lapped cars will not be released,
As a result Lewis stays out, Max pits.
2). U-turn that decision once Max is back on track and the pack has collected. Lapped cars will be released.
3). Assume divine powers to release only some of the 8 lapped cars. A new procedure that is entirely out with FIA rules.
4). Select precisely the 5 cars to be released that will have the maximum influence on changing the probable outcome of the race. Not 1 car more, not 1 car less. If other selection criteria was used then what is it?
5). Omit the mandatory additional safety car lap that is specified in the FIA rules. Meaning this entirely natural and not in anyway engineered scenario can play out before the chequered flag.

yep. that’s cut and dried and the worst part of all this. it’s a pisstake and it’s caused me to waste even more hours moaning about it alongside all the hours wasted watching it all unfold to this point. it’s such a shit way to treat fans who actually like the sport and not just their man winning or because they liked drive to survive.

no one with a working brain can be happy with that unfolding like that in a sport, regardless of whether or not it meant the outcome of the race was favourable for them or not.
Stoped reading at first. Mercedes decided for no pitstop way before there was "lapped cars won't bw released" thing. That decision was changed in the same lap btw cuz Masi saw that track is totally clear and they can go.

One of the most annoying things is hearing Horner say “it’s unheard of not letting lapped cars un lap themselves” but no one seems to ask him what about the 3 that didn’t Christian? I’d say that’s very unheard off.
Regardless of the competitors and what went before it, no championship should be decided in the way this one was today. Max + Lewis were level pegging and today was supposedly 'best man on the day wins'. That is not what we got in my opinion.

The ramifications of this could be huge. Mercedes dont spend circa £500mil a season to go racing in F1 for some trumped up race director to create his own rules. That engine development freeze that RB want so badly until 2026 that's due to be signed off soon, Mercedes could pull out and screw over RB. The empire will strike back...

Most likely is some kind of acknowledgement it shouldn't have happened this way and Masi goes. I don't see any circumstance where he is race director next year. Its not just Mercedes that think he's been awful.
