F1 2021 Season

The presenters sound like they know this is a farce too but need to sell it as an epic

Going on 28 years watching now, never seen a moment more tense than that final lap, but can't ignore how fabricated it was.

Safety cars late always have potential to change a race... I was a bit deflated when they said the lapped cars wouldn't be allowed to unlap, but to reverse that decision soon after to clearly get the last lap fight just between the top 2 (as that decision disregards anything else going on), knowing what the situation was (fresh softs vs used hards)... just doesn't sit right. I feel like any tension or emotion I felt (and I was tense at the end) was as fabricated as a superhero movie.

What a great day for F1 and for sport in general.

I am absolutely delighted since I became a huge Max fan 10mins ago when a salty Hamilton fan replied to my post.

How it is a great day for F1? This is one of the biggest races in the history of the sport and I can guarantee you that this has severely damaged the legitimacy of F1 as a sport. A great many F1 first timers won’t be coming back if this is their impression. It’s a terrible, terrible advert for F1 and motorsport in general.

I would ignore the cowards crawling out of the woodwork after the fact to gloat.

It's just transparent wumming.

Are you also saying you get zero joy from seeing Liverpool or City suffer a humiliating defeat? Didn't have a chuckle at Pools 7-1 loss last season?

Nico Rosberg is bang on there. Masi can decide what he wants, no matter the rules.

And that's why this isn't a sport, it's sport entertainment. I was entertained by that last lap, very much so. But like wrestling, it's not real

They make the rules and so they can change them on a whim with no recourse. What ya gonna do?

I'm OK with Max winning, both drivers were exceptional this year and both deserve it. They have to keep it a sport rather than something manufactured for TV though and rules are written for everybody to follow.

I hope it doesn't get stupid and taken to CAS by Mercedes, but the FIA definitely need to review the rules and make sure they are fit for purpose.

Well Jos is happy now so we can all agree something went seriously wrong with the world when that abusive sociopath is happy

They’ll do that after, the world championship has just finished. You interview the winners first.
Still think they should be making more of it. They are now but no much.

Ive seen it in other sports, they tend to not talk about the controversy anymore and just say ‘it is what it is’.

If Rosberg is right, and it’s black and white in the rules that all cars are REQUIRED to pass, then I can see this going for a while in legal battles.

Max as classless in his interviews as Red Bull has been all season and the Max fanboys have been in here today. This was plain and simple a fix. We all saw it. The FIA handed Verstappen the world title. For anyone to be celebrating that like it was anything other than a total shambles and a sham is laughable.

Embarrassing for the sport. Downright embarrassing. Red Bull couldn’t win it fairly. Lewis had done it. So the FIA intervened. Shocking stuff. Verstappen will always be a fake world champ until he wins it fairly. But to win it this way is in keeping with the way he drives, he conducts himself and his team conduct themselves.

Shameful stuff. What a total embarrassment. I was really, really angry at first. Now I’m just laughing at how desperate some people are for Verstappen to win and to claim this as a victory. It wasn’t, it was just a fix.

Hamilton is still the champ. Plain and simple. He won today.

Obviously Lewis was hard done by but my God, that was the most thrilling lap I've ever seen in an F1 race.

Sky really annoy me, why are they not talking about the rules? Trying to explain if it was a legal outcome or the race?
Is there any question about legality. Max passed and won, i don't think that passing was out of the order ..

Max the unworthy champion. The FIA got their man. All it took was...

-dodgy half points awarded in Spa

-letting Max get away with inadequate punishment for dangerous driving multiple times

-moving cars out the way in the final race at the will of Red Bull.

What a joke.

Now do all the BS Merc got away with this season

Fantastic day for the sport, fully deserved for Verstappen - a great performance out of him all year, a fitting end. Very tactically astute from Red Bull and a very poor decision from Mercedes not to react to their pits. Very enjoyable viewing.

Is it in the rules though? The commentators seemed unsure.. that was around lap 54.. they were talking about it.. said it usually happens.. but didnt say it was the rule

The whole unlapping 5 cars and no others is the smoking gun, it's not a level playing field. It's like a referee laying on a lovely through ball for a last minute winner in a CL final.

Max started the race on pole and spun his wheels out on the softs  He was losing all race until the FIA decided to fix the race.

I don't see how that is " deserving it".
Deserving the championship, and deserving the race win are totally different things.
Through the course of the season, both Lewis and Max have deserved to be number 1.
There is no need to be so biased.
I'll repeat, I absolutely cannot stand Max but I'm not so deluded to say he doesn't deserve this.

Hamilton has dominated the sport for so long that it’s probably good for the sport to see a new champion, Max is an exciting and brilliant driver and had hoped he would become champion one day.

The FIA have a lot of answering for for their decision making over the safety car and positioning of the cars. I don’t know if they changed their mind part way or they just withheld the information, but their decision making has had major consequences for Lewis. It’s a pretty ugly situation they have engineered for themselves here.

As a Lewis fan, it’s pretty hard to take. He was absolutely the best driver today and lost a title due to a random incident with the drivers fighting for last place. You could run that race 100 times over and it wouldn’t happen like that, but it always felt like it was never going to end with Lewis cruising home.

I’m sure some will feel like that’s equaled out turn one, but they really aren’t comparable. Losing a place on lap 1 vs losing a race on the last lap. To call it one each for the race is almost embarrassing - I’m hearing Rosberg say it right now.

They have to it’s all lapped cars or none.

If rules have been broken by the FIA, then it’s so sad. And unfair on both Lewis and Max. At the end of the day, RB took gambles (they had nothing to lose) and they paid off

Probably why they don't let Mike Dean do one.

It‘s clear they have fecked up but it won’t change the result, guessing there will be a reshuffle before next season starts

they wanted a grandstand showtime moment for tv, it’s the only answer.

might as well have left the car on the track and said crack on
