Do you want the ESL to happen?

It’s still a competition. I’m not sure about NFL or the NBA but it seems to me different teams win it all the time and the best teams are built through strategy and not money.

But that’s not my forte.. so I could be totally wrong. Happy to be corrected.

That's pretty much it, luck plays a role too in the sense that being bad on a great draft year can turn your franchise's fate for a decade. For example, if you are the first to pick when Lebron James is in the entry draft.

No one sees a problem, I don't really understand your tone here. I simply gave you the different outcomes and the reason why residents often aren't massively against those stadiums.
I guess that I interpret the word trade-off a bit differently. Trade-off to me implies that you accept something you do not like in order to have what you want (investment bankers accepting to have long working hours in exchange for more money). But let's say no city resident even wants to bring in a franchise, let alone subsiziding them with tax money, then I don't really see the trade-off.

But that could be me nitpicking word definitions.

They can and sometimes do but the trade-off is that you will lose the team if you succeed. In fact you even take the risk to lose the team if your proposal isn't as interesting as the one made by an other city, that's why every "small" market fanbase is currently afraid of Seattle, Las Vegas and Tampa Bay who are all looking for franchises to host.

Florentino Perez and Manchester United seems are the principal founder of this super league

The old, you aren’t a match going supporter so you know shit argument . Why don’t you outline how this is going to be bad for us instead of climbing on a high horse?

MUFC are a club physically located in England but they have fans all over the world. You may not like it but it’s true. All the riches in the PL are due to its global appeal.

Also why you registered to this forum doesn’t matter. You need to share your opinion on the matter at hand.

Clearly you don't know anything about the history of the club and you are just a glory hunting yank.

The Glazers and the other scumbag owners are trying to hijack football in this country and make it into the NFL. No one should be confused about what's happening here, this is one step closer to salary caps so they can make fortunes and drafts so they don't have to buy players.

Perhaps you will relish us tanking and losing to Barcelona 18-0 so we can finish bottom of the league on goal difference and get the first pick in the draft.

All I can say is over my dead body. It is time to rid this club of the cancerous Glazers.

Talk of a 60 billion fine by Uefa but they need to be careful how they do it.

If these lawsuits where successful it would be important to somehow legally stipulate that the owners must pay the fine and cannot put the debt in the club.

Because if you fine United 500 million euro the Glazers wouldn't pay a cent of that. They take out a loan on the club just like they did to buy us.

And the glazers don't give a shit about how we perform so you literally would not be punishing them one bit.

Same with Gary's idea of a points deduction. The glazers wouldn't give two shits if we we got some imaginary points take off us.

Need to ensure the punishment is to the people pulling the strings

So punish Agnelli, Perez, Glazers, FSG, and Kroenke directly.

I'd love UEFA forever if they put the Glazers in so much personal debt that they had to sell. They deserve to be big losers in this.

Obviously I've no idea if this is really possible but punishing the people that really responsible is very important

Probably yeah, I just think the way that it was set up by Sky was a bit ridiculous. We got very little information to go on and just basically a slaughter in the studio for 10-15 minutes before even seeing highlights.

We'll see if Sky are in the conversation for telly rights, then we'll probably see a change of tune from their representatives.

Personally I've no particular loyalty to Sky, the PL, UEFA, FIFA etc. and I can respect your view if you think Gary's involvement in the (relative) financial doping of Salford means his words on this are somewhat hollowed, but I fully buy his disgust for the breakaway idea.

Well yes it's the trade-off, for the fanbase who are also residents and lose something they don't want to lose. It's not as if we are talking about unanimous decisions.

Incredible short sightedness. You think you'll feel the same after, say, 3 seasons of only playing the same teams again and again and again in this super league?

If you're not top of that league what the feck are you even playing for? There's no top four, no Europa league places, no cup competitions, nothing at all to play for if you're not winning the title. Other than to sell more tv subscriptions in China.

And you won't be watching these games play out in Old Trafford either. If you're in the UK you will be watching us play Real Madrid in a stadium in fecking LA at 2am. And then playing Liverpool two weeks later in a stadium in Beijing, kick off at 8am gmt.
Who gives a shit?

The CL has become a boring and predicable competition that doesn't have any value until the quarters/semis, the Europa league should be burned to the ground or introduce a wage cap on the teams that enter it, there's no reason a super league can't have cup competitions, it's not like that idea is copywrited by national FA's.

Pitting yourself against the best of the best if what football should be about. Who cares if we don't win it? We haven't won the PL for going on 8 years, and we haven't even have to compete against a Madrid , Bayern or a Barcelona! With the money available in that competition there's no reason we couldn't compete at some point, and if we don't enter it then why would players bother coming to us when they can go to Bayern and play in that competition on a higher salary?

You call me shortsighted but not joining it if Europe's elite are already on board is complete suicide.

Kick off times are irrelevant, people are moaning about Friday night kick offs, people just like to moan.

Good luck to the PL without the big six
Pretty sure English football existed long before those 6 teams were branded like that. Spurs and Arsenal disappearing from the League wouldn't affect much given how shite they are and how long since they won it.

Interesting points

Let’s not forget the Premier League was formed as a break out league....

To take advantage of more lucrative TV rights granted but you also had barely any games live on TV pre-Premier league but it was formed on the basis there was still promotion & relegation and that money filters down through the leagues. This proposed Super League is a closed shop for the big boys thats it. Leicester would probably never play it no matter where they finished in the PL.

Isn't the appeal of the CL the fact that these teams don't play each other every season?

This is the first time IIRC that Chelsea have played Madrid in years or at all. Then there is also the running history behind these games, the European "rivalries" you don't get every season. People still talk about those Madrid vs United games that Ronaldo dominated or the Bayern v Barcelona match ups.

That is going to be lost if you have Madrid vs Man Utd every season, twice a season.

Sky have no moral grounds to stand on given how much they charge the 'fan' to watch it on the telly.

The club is a disgrace for signing up to this. Comparisons to when the Premier League was formed are wide of the mark.

If the Premier League docked all the clubs involved points including us I'd be all for it.
Yeah we hardly make the CL anyway. Award the league to Leicester and dock these so called "big 6" thirty points a season until their shitty ESL starts.

It's like 2 rich, powerful, arrogant businesses fighting each other, and the common fans are the loser.

The UEFA/FIFA are trying to arm-twist by making saying they won't allow such players in World Cup. That itself is so wrong as well...

They're bluffing.

If the clubs go ahead with this super league, the premier league and la liga wouldn't be able to financially survive without the top clubs. Most of the money would just disappear. Same for National teams, are they really going to have a world cup without the best players in the world? Where will the money come from?

This will end with a compromise, but nobody cares about the fans, the outrage on sky is garbage.

If it goes ahead we need to move en masse to another club. Only question? Who?

Yeah that's right, football is rife with corruption. So of course the obvious answer is to double down on it. Sell it all off to private equity firms so they can finally kill the game of football in its entirety. Makes perfect sense.

Kroenke and Glazer are champions of the people.

 It's hilarious reading through some of these posts if I wasn't livid and wanting all 6 clubs to be automatically relegated down to the conference. Ashamed of my club tonight.

I agree with the sentiment but it would be incredibly harsh on the players.
Clubs are nothing without players and fans. What players would sign for these clubs knowing you cant play in Euros or World Cup? Players have power, the message from players to the boards of the clubs might make these stupid owners who are only interested in vast profits see sense.

They should make an example of all the clubs involved and give them points deduction to get them out of top 4 places and allow other team to replace them. Take Citys PL title for this season away from them. That will teach them.

Just delusional greed nothing else.

Well done PSG, Dortmund Bayern for not signing up to this.

Shut up man. I think that skys strategically placed slaughter of this Super League that hasn't in any way got the go-ahead and that we evidently know very little about is all to do with money.

They know that they are standing to lose the most on this.

They have an interest but Neville's reaction is how most fans have reacted. Why would his opinion not be similar or as passionate??

Mint.

You've seen the CL revamp suggestions from UEFA, have you?

Aah I see, why didn’t Neville mention them in his rant?

How can it be a super league if city are in it? Not even joking they aren’t a big club.

He did I think, he said they and Chelsea are new money so he doesn't have great expectations of them doing the right thing.

Do you really think players would choose to play in the more and more increasingly irrelevant international games, instead of trousering 250-300k or more in an even richer world?

I’m assuming it will end up being an extra competition we are in? Probably a cup competition? Doesn’t seem like the end of the world but I guess we need to wait for an announcement.

I love how Sky are getting on the high horse about this, as if they won’t be bidding big for the TV rights for matches to offer to customers on PPV!

If it gets the go ahead then it damages their main product.... the Premier League, as 6 of the biggest clubs would be banned.
