Will never happen - the result will be UEFA / FIFA banning players from participating in the Euros and World Cups
If many top clubs sign up they'll basically be banning all the good players from their tournaments.

Imagine Burnley v Sampdoria in the Champions League :wenger:

Go away with your conspiracy bollocks. Neville is and always will be a Manchester United man.

What conspiracy? I think you're reading far too much into what I said. I'm talking about taking a healthy scepticism towards the current outrage on display on Sky.

Along with Sky, Neville has a vested interest as he works for Sky and he invests in a lower league team.

The club is a disgrace for signing up to this. Comparisons to when the Premier League was formed are wide of the mark.

If the Premier League docked all the clubs involved points including us I'd be all for it.

I think its great to see people support the charitable organizations, with no corruption whatsoever, that are Fifa and UEFA.

Not to mention the Premier League.

Wasn't that long ago the Fa wanted to sell off Wembley.

Money and Greed are ruining the game.

Genuine question - Is this what happened with Boxing and all the different organisations?

People are overreacting. How exactly is this going to spoil the domestic competition if things are going to stay like this ? PL is going to stay ,right?

There is too much money in football and it's normal people will try to tap it. It's going to come back in one way or other . UEFA and PL is only against it because they aren't getting a slice or it. If they are compensated , they will be the first one to be on boarded.

Come on, CL final is the most watched sports program. Why would they want to lose it to FIFA ?
Problem is that Uefa and PL will ban those clubs. So basically, we will watch United only in Super league

feck it, why not? Why is it a bad idea? Are we all excited about the prospect of playing Burnley again next season? What about Norwich? These shit teams only want to be in the league so they can have a free hit at trying to beat us home and away, while we suffer the game under duress.

I'm way more excited about the prospect of playing Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Inter, Juventus etc every weekend than watching another fecking shit 0-0 between Newcastle and Brighton.

Also, we've been shit for years, no one likes us apparently, we're worthless to the PL. Now it looks like we might be leaving for bigger and better things there's a meltdown.

How teams like Burnley and Norwich play is utterly irrelevant. They do what they need to do to get points because they aren't blessed with the players and wealth of talent, resources, and money that teams like us have. They can't do too much about that. They've won promotion into the Premier League and they deserve to be able to have the chance to play against the best leagues in the country. They've earned that. If they get relegated because they haven't got enough points to stay in the league, they deserve and have earned that, too. Just like if we were to have a shit season and not make it into a Champions League spot, it would be our own doing.

Pretty much feel the same way. Funny seeing sky sports and its employees collectively bricking it.

If it ends up a disaster then we can come back and pretend it never happened.

Let’s not forget the Premier League was formed as a break out league....

Another shameless power grab. Is there any stopping these greedy fecks

It’s not a European super league without french and German clubs. It’s a closed shop tri nations league.

Lets see if they have the bottle to go forward with their announcement tonight. I think we’ll hear nothing more from these clowns tonight, and then they’ll start backtracking ferociously insisting nothing was ever really agreed.

Do people realize what type of competition they pushing for instead of CL,

When I say wage cap, I mean a maximum budget like in the NBA. Lebron James doesn't feel undervalued at all I reckon.

NBA has a player / owner deal every few years on how many percents of the revenue should be used for players salaries, max salaries etc...
And there have been a few times a several months lockout when they failed to find a deal. With shortened seasons...

The NBA is a great system. But unlike the superleague, the teams are more well spread across the country (6 PL teams and only 3 countries is a joke, give this kind of money to ajax, moscou etc and they will be top teams too)
And football doesn t have a college level competition to bring young players to the draft and help the worst teams of the previous season.

Either a pathetic wind up or completely off the mark. His speech was perfect and will hopefully show how we all feel from a big voice on a big stage.

I’m ashamed in United

Shut up man. I think that skys strategically placed slaughter of this Super League that hasn't in any way got the go-ahead and that we evidently know very little about is all to do with money.

They know that they are standing to lose the most on this.

Genuine question - Is this what happened with Boxing and all the different organisations?
I don't know but I look forward to us the ESLED Champions contesting Liverpool the SFEFL Champions for unification of the titles in Las Vegas MGM :D

If you think people are opposed to this because they're supporting FIFA and UEFA you don't have a clue.

And even so, this proposal takes everything that's bad about UEFA and cranks it up to 11.

It's like you have a cold, and then you say 'ah I'm sick anyway so let's take a bath in ionising radiation'.
Exactly. I don't think people are aware or understand impact of this. Clubs involved would lose so much more than gain.

Anyone remember what the reaction was when the Premier League was first rumoured? The strength of Sky's reaction based on pretty little actual detail suggests they are concerned about it, but I'm guessing there must've been similar feelings back in 1992?
Not like this. I remember critical voices but the changes were not on this level at all. If that was a small tear in football family, this is broken bones.

What those, who is for this, don't understand is that the reality of this is football destroying itself.

As soon as Big English clubs started getting bought by foreign billionaires 15-20 years ago a breakaway like this was inevitable, the likes of City getting financially doped probably hastened it.

The PL and the FA only have themselves to blame if this does go ahead, they should have brought in laws/rules to ensure English clubs remained mostly English owned. Instead of becoming playthings or cash cows for billionaires with no connection to the clubs or the English game.
Top post. Thanks mate. @Niall let’s put a vehicle in place to express our views: Poll etc

Surely it won't happen when they see the reaction. We just collectively wouldn't watch it and go to whoever your 'second team' is. I blame the Americans too, probably come from the Glazers and Liverpool's lot. The pricks.
They won't give the slightest toss what "local" fans think. The international market will lap it up and they're a much bigger source of revenue these days. Your average Chinese fan isn't going to complain about more "big" games. Most of the people who protest it won't actually stop following the club/football altogether either. It'll go the same way as the green and gold brigade did, with a big outcry followed by a gradual return to normality as people realise nothing's going to change, bar a few real hardcore people (which, again, the people who run these clubs couldn't care less about).

I presume it works in American sports because it has been the model from the beginning? I like that there is no relegation/promotion in those sports because it makes sense in the American context, but it has no business in European sports.

On a side note closed leagues used to be a thing a long time ago in certain countries, France being an example. It's also a thing in Rugby in the southern emisphere but the important part is that it's definitely going to happen at some point in France and England every other year, politicians try to prevent it but I think that we are heading closer to it which isn't necessarily a bad thing in Rugby.

The Premier League and UEFA have had plenty of opportunity to reform their competitions, haven’t taken them through their OWN greed and now they’re not happy they may be left behind.

The PL and the Champions League are bloated, boring and ridiculously uneven. Why do we need 20 PL teams? Why do we need 64 CL teams? Their own greed is what has done them in the end.

IMO, the Champions League should be just the champions + maybe the domestic cup winners. The Europa League for teams who finish 2-4th or 5th if a club that finished 1st to 4th won their domestic cup.

Incredible short sightedness. You think you'll feel the same after, say, 3 seasons of only playing the same teams again and again and again in this super league?

If you're not top of that league what the feck are you even playing for? There's no top four, no Europa league places, no cup competitions, nothing at all to play for if you're not winning the title. Other than to sell more tv subscriptions in China.

It will be like the NFL where there are playoffs and a Soccer Super Bowl at the end.

What would motivate the Glazers to want to win, or even do well in that league?

It’s still a competition. I’m not sure about NFL or the NBA but it seems to me different teams win it all the time and the best teams are built through strategy and not money.

But that’s not my forte.. so I could be totally wrong. Happy to be corrected.

I love how Sky are getting on the high horse about this, as if they won’t be bidding big for the TV rights for matches to offer to customers on PPV!

If the

Why? If the aim is for the clubs to stick the knife in UEFAs guts and form their own league to replace the champions league, why the flying feck should the Premier League, or even FIFA for that matter, be involved?

Yeah I see that, but I also think his disgust with United and Liverpool in particular is genuine.

Probably yeah, I just think the way that it was set up by Sky was a bit ridiculous. We got very little information to go on and just basically a slaughter in the studio for 10-15 minutes before even seeing highlights.

Problem is that Uefa and PL will ban those clubs. So basically, we will watch United only in Super league
Precisely the point. They are taking this moral stand only because they are shit scared of clubs getting more money and not because that this move will eliminate small clubs (which has no substance anyways)

Agreed - solidarity. Put the owner trolls on ignore

Exactly

The same premier league that banned Scholes for 2 (3?) league games for a red card in a pre season friendly..

Posturing from all sides.
Uefa will be bricking it at their most glamorous clubs plotting this.

Expect to see some changed Euro champions league format with more money involved.
Yeah this. This is a hefty shot across Uefa’s bows....play by the clubs terms or we feck off

I can see managers uniting against it if it goes ahead. I wouldn't be surprised if they all threaten to walk.
