Do you want the ESL to happen?

I can see most of the prem teams backing out but the Glazers, I reckon Perez will then push for a southern Europe super league. We need the Government to implement 51% fan ownership, then those yank feckers plans will be in tatters and they can feck off.

The government of ultra capitalism and just last week was pushing 'greed is good'

They don't give a feck... just seen the public outcry and it's an easy win for them to say they are with the fans... but really the tories have always treated football fans as scum

Wouldn't be ironic if the Glazers were responsible for ruining ownership for themselves, all americans or middle-east countries ? :)

Even if this does get stopped we are now too far gone. These parasites need to go. The club is dead until they go.

If this doesn't work, and the super league idea fails, how exactly can the Glazers/Woodward remain at our club?! The vitriol at every match would be horrific, and they've simply united our rival fans against them.

If you're a Utd fan who thinks this league is a good idea, or at least an interesting one, this could be your chance to genuinely get united backing against the Glazers and the lecherous, odious overlords we have to endure.

The rumours that Chelsea and City are thinking to back out are fake. Pérez told in Chiringuito they signed a binding contract between the 12 founders. No one leaves and they all signed without any pressure last saturday.

"It is not a sport where the relation between effort and success does not exist"

"It is not a sport where success is already guaranteed and it doesn't matter when you lose"

'It's not fair when one team fight, fight, fight for the top and still cannot be qualified because it is just for a few teams."

"The right people - the owners - have the obligation, the duty, to clarify as soon as possible, clarify all around the world why these teams should play and the others not. Ajax - with four Champions Leagues - why they are not there?"

"For all of us managers, it is uncomfortable. Presidents can talk more clear what is the idea for the future and where football is going to go. I would love the president go all around the world and say what is the reason they took this decision."

"I support this club and I am part of the club but also I have my own opinion."

You're not going to find a stronger, or more real and off the cuff, condemnation than that from any player or manager who's part of the 'competition'

Yeah fair play to Pep. That is likely the most damning response you'll hear from a manager. I hope Ole has the balls to do the same. In fact he has possibly the best platform to do so. He is a playing legend for this club who knows its history and scored the vital goal in a CL final. He has a lot of real personal experience to invoke. I do acknowledge he is in a tough position though as our scumbag owners will have no problem sacking him if he speaks out.

more than 50% if the shares in a club must be owned by the fans (like in germany - except RB Leipzig seem to be an exception)

Personally I woudnt take Fifa's legal advice on anything for what its worth
how's that going to be implemented? 51% of United, that's a lot of money and I'm currently short on cash.

The happiest people right now are the ones who dreamed up "New Coke". Generations from now people will still use the ESL as a metaphor for imbecilic corporate ideas.

The only suspense left is how much longer this drags out until they surrender and reverse it. It is DOA.

Why the hell do you keep saying that? A lot of people care.

UEFA own the rights to the pinnacle of European club competition. Most teams care very deeply about it. So profoundly that they took a stop and tried to break away from it to keep getting money, despite having absolutely no merit to being in this proposed league.

Not only that, they’ve had the temerity to convert their previous wins with UEFA, (if any, as there are 4 clubs whom never fecking won the competition before). The absolute state of their arrogance, Yet no one cares for it. I can guarantee you most football fans care. Even City fans whom apparently hate UEFA but then desperately want to win the bloody thing every season.

You missed my point. The CL is the most important trophy, no doubt. UEFA may own the rights but they are nothing without the teams that take part. I don't care about UEFA as an organization, all I care about is the tournament itself.

I don’t care if it's called the uefa champions league, the Florentino Perez super league or the Joel glazer Pikachu league as long as it has the best teams in Europe in it.

Do you remember when we were the subject of a hostile takeover and the Glazers didn’t care?

50+1 would be great if it can be pushed through. How will fans find the money for it though? United alone are worth about 3 billion, and if a hundred thousand fans pay up for 51 percent of the club, that is 15k out of each of their pockets.

And you can't force one rule to apply to some clubs, and another rule to another club. All clubs in the football league would have to be sold to their fans. Not going to be easy.

Bayern club statement now, not just quoting the Rummenigge interview

FC Bayern München has a clear stance on the issue of the Super League. “Our members and fans reject a Super League,” said president Herbert Hainer. “As FC Bayern, it is our wish and our aim that European clubs live the wonderful and emotional competition that is the Champions League, and develop it together with UEFA. FC Bayern says no to the Super League.”
CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reinforced that: “On behalf of the board, I would like to make it explicitly clear that FC Bayern will not be taking part in the Super League. FC Bayern stands in solidarity with the Bundesliga. It always was and is a great pleasure for us to be able to play and represent Germany in the Champions League. We all remember fondly our 2020 Champions League victory in Lisbon – you don’t forget such a joyful moment. For FC Bayern, the Champions League is the best club competition in the world.”

Because people have to get realistic, expelling the big six from the PL is not the answer, making players or managers speak out against their employers in public is not the answer. The argument will get polarised instead of trying to come to a solution.

The obvious solution for many of us would be the status quo.
But I am not sure that is going to or can happen.
To me, this is a stage too far for a simple climb down, for either side.
Ultimately, this can only be resolved by discussion and some form of compromise.
But having said that, it is pretty clear that both sides will go through the posturing phase to establish a position of strength.
This will run for some time before the clubs self interest can become a common interest, assuming of course that either side doesn't take it a step too far.

They can't full stop. We have always hated them while other fans rejoiced at the 'big bad guy' being fecked over. Now all the rival fans hate them too and all our ex players will be much quicker to speak out (Neville finally found his voice). Its like when I laughed at Liverpool's problems until I heard talk of administration and was appalled that they could cease to exist. Rival fans don't want to live in a world without their direct competitors.

apparently we can just take out a bank loan... make united pay it back and award ourself a wage / management fee whenever we feel like it
Ok, I'm in. Also we could maybe form our own league down the line, a kind of "super?" league, with blackjack and hookers.

There’s zero chance govt will suddenly allow the effective compulsory part nationalisation of businesses because of ill feelings of a proposed football league.

People who take this seriously are Tooth Fairy believers surely?

Do you remember when we were the subject of a hostile takeover and the Glazers didn’t care?

This would be different. Then, even Utd fans were pretty divided and only a few got behind it really.

Then there was the green and gold campaign which had a wider backing, but was still pretty tame and palatable.

This would be on a whole new level. You've even got pundits demanding action against the owners. As soon as fans are back in, this gets so ugly.

Honestly, if the government wanted to stop this, just allow all fans back to Utd's next home game as normal and watch all the clubs drop out of this idea.

I mean, people who taste tested new coke supposedly thought it was better..

You just gotta laugh. Cherry picking at its finest
