Do you want the ESL to happen?

If the league was hosted as an end of season event that filled the void between the World Cup and the Euros and they applied similar rules to that of the Olympics, where teams can only field a set number of "senior" players, I would be all for it and would be interesting to watch. I feel the same as 99% of fans by the way and think the whole thing is shocking.

Could the owners take the clubs out of their countries?
Yes, I think they can. That would happen sooner or later. If they do, we start over. No problem. Good luck calling team Manchester United or Liverpool and playing in other countries.

That's entirely irrelevant. They will face huge backlash irrelevant to what they 'have' to do, it's about what they should do.

It's incredibly relevant. They're not entitled to know anything. It would just be nice if they were involved.
This is business, this is capitalism, it's not about niceties. You wouldn't expect Apple to consult their sales consultants when they decide to buy a new company or change business practices - they agree things with their board members & legal team and all employees are expected to fall in line. This is no different.

Can you explain this more as I don't watch American sports.

Once you're not really in contention for a playoff spot, the upside of losing is higher than the upside of winning. A worse record gives you a bigger chance of a high draft pick.
It's called tanking, and some teams do it on purpose for years, calling it a process. Philadelphia 76ers even made it their slogan; "Trust the process", and Joel Embiid even got the nickname "The Process" as he was/is the crown jewel supposed to take them back into contention (and have done so, tbf.). Some teams even willingly take on horrible contracts in exchange for additional draft picks, in addition to the losing on purpose.

And if they're still in the super league regardless isn't there less incentive not to fix matches again?

If they fix matches in the SL then I would presume there would be a legal clause to throw them out - question is if they continue in Serie A as well and they fix matches there they'd be relegated from that league.
The SL and the PL or Serie A would be under different jurisdictions if UEFA or FIFA do not sanction the SL.

Heard on the radio one of the ideas is shorter halves. They're really bending over backwards to cater to low attention span morons who'll be watching in the background while scrolling through social media.

It's called tanking, as they are rewarded with better odds at the next year draft, if they are at the bottom of the table. So it gets really weird when 1/3 of teams don't want to win and try to loose on purpose.

In Nba the worst place to be is in the middle. If you are a good team, you have a shot at championship. But if you are a bad team, there is a lottery every year to draft the best players coming out of college. So, the worse you are, the more ping pong balls you have in draft lottery. That's why most of the teams that do not have the chance to be competitive try to bottom out. That aims to give a chance for every single team to become competitive in cycles, provided that they are managed properly. Every now and then, that rebuilding team becomes competitive and it works. But even in the NBA the big market teams has better chance to break this cycle.

That's why those idiotic Glazers struggle to understand european football.

You expect those who fixed matches to throw themselves out for fixing matches?

In my opinion it's untenable for these teams to remain in the national leagues if this goes through.

Let them. If they do that those franchises will be just a name. Us legacy fans will just start new clubs.
The game needs a revolution if us fans have a chance of taking our game back from those filthy owners.

Tampa Bay Rays were rubbish for years, then eventually drafted a side that could contend.

That's not the NBA but the MLB where tanking comes from. The Rays are weird team, they are cheap and highly analytical, they rely heavily on the draft.

The worse a teams win/loss record, the more balls they get in the draft lottery.

The draft contains the next generation of young (mostly) college players...so 'winning the lottery', or getting one of the better picks, gives you a better chance of picking up the next great talent.

Even worse than the teams tanking (deliberately losing) or who are just shit are the treadmill teams...the ones in the middle who have no chance of winning, but also no chance of finishing near the bottom. Their season is basically pointless from opening night.

The Super League format will create a lot of treadmill teams in football - both in the SL and in the domestic league where positions 2-17 are basically the same.

Btw if the Queen comes out speaks against it...just imagine  I think some owners will seek to exit the clubs, it will get unbearable as the world media will focus at them, not only in Britain.

And you trust them?
Absolutely not, but in this case I really think we got it completely wrong. I can't stand by and watch us be a key part of ruining football for everyone. If we join ESL, we're the badguys, and I won't be part of it.

I am still seething at being called a legacy fan. T****rs

Entitlement is again not the point. It is about what is expected. In any instance where these clubs makes decision without even consulting players, managers or fans there will be HUGE backlash.

Going luck getting support for something like this when you've never consulted the people that matter in the decision process. This is more than just 'its capitalism'.

You're completely going off on tangent.

Wouldn't be surprised of Woodward got all the major lawyers to look over some aspect of this, so that they are now conflicted from assisting PL / UEFA.

Do you think they deserve a place over other European clubs? What about Benfica, or Ajax?

Those clubs can presumably still develop great players and sell them to super league clubs, and they can have the further honour of applying for a guest place in next years super league. However, Perez and Woodward will have to check if they're more financially attractive than say, Everton, and if not they can give up on their lofty dreams of sharing a pitch again with the mighty Real Madrid, Barcelona and Tottenham, and maybe work on their brands, reach more future fans, thank Perez again for saving football, and reapply again next year.
