Do you want the ESL to happen?

I can see City withdrawing. Their owners don’t really need the money & they actually seem to care about the city & the fans considering the amount of money they’ve inserted into it.

Us, real & liverpool seem to be the driving force behind this, sadly, and we know our owners don’t give a shit about the fans.

Wow. That quote from Juventus owner. You put that together with Perez meltdown and you don’t need anything else to understand what kind of people they are.

The name European Super League might give a clue :)

That isn't the name, that's just a holdover from what everyone was calling the concept previously. They've just gone with "The Super League".

Because when there’s nothing on the line why would they risk playing through injury or risking it in that fifty fifty tackle, there’s no relegation from it, there’s no having to do well to get into it. They’ll play for personal pride maybe

Is it happening now ? We aren't going to be relegated and we aren't going to be champions. Are we not.playing to our fullest commitment?

They don't care about the "fans". They want to whitewash the image and this has brought bad PR. Infact I was surprised they even went for it to begin with

Yeah, I bet there's a reason for the branding just being "The Super League" rather than anything to do with it being European. There's absolutely scope for new fecking 'franchises' anywhere in the world, or to move existing ones elsewhere.

and to start auctioning off games to be played in the USA, China etc.

So the government is going to purchase United for billions, change its structure and presumably sell it for a loss?
Why would govt purchase? But when govt talks about "nothing off the table", "looking into possibilities of fans having ownership, 50+1" etc etc, that can be a potential option. Of course it will be ugly legally, if at all possible. Hence I am hoping of ESL fail as start which at least builds a thought process in owners where they are looking to sell partially and then along with that, the legislations if any can come into picture which changes ownership structure.

Of course it's laughable, the PL won't exist if the top 6 aren't in it. There'd be no interest in it from worldwide supporters and the finances will collapse.
Those involved in the ESL will never be in danger of being relegated from their National Leagues in the current PL setup and it should be an extremely competitive league playing top matches all the time with a trophy or trophies at the end of it.

Personally I would like things to stay as they are but if it does change and the ESL happens then I'm all out a United supporter and will watch every match I can.

But thinking the top six can be ejected and things will carry on as before is equivalent to believing in Starmer's unicorns in the sunlit uplands.
No I don’t think things will carry on as before but I also don’t think the PL will instantly collapse. A lot now relies on the players and what they’d prefer, obviously there’s the pull of more money and glamorous club names. There’s also the pull of being loyal to fans and wanting to remain a part of competitive football.

the top 6 of today were not the top 6 of the past and if good players start joining Leeds, Leicester, West Ham who are you to say that won’t be as good as them joining city, Spurs and Chelsea now?

But we COULD be relegated? What are you not getting? It's not literally impossible. A bad run of form, yes a very bad one, but a bad run of form could see us relegated.

Good luck getting 50+1 done. Boris wanted Newcastle takeover of Saudi just last week. This will be put to back burner when negotiations happen with corporation backing this league happen

Happy for you, and happy for the football fans around the world like you, you've all got what you've ever wanted. Real life FIFA.

Why is it a bad thing to expect my team to play the best teams every year ? I don't think this would impact EPL by any means. Both are completely different competitions and think the reactions has been bit OTT.

What would they have lied about? The super league concept is pretty self explanatory, I find it very hard to believe clubs could be "tricked" so easily. Just trying to save face.

Possibly about the legal situation? Or maybe they thought it was just a negotiating tactic to get a better UEFA deal? Maybe it is...

All well and good but some of the clubs are already private companies floated on stock markets. Good luck in turning those into 50+1 models

Maybe, it probably would not happen. I just think it would put certain clubs in a position where they would be desperately trying to improve their revenue so the diminished esteem of the Champions League would not matter if they could market themselves for a big pay off.

Maybe a bad example but I think it just highlights where this could spiral.

Fair enough mate, if the Super League happens and sadly I think it will. Then the Champions League will be seen rightly or wrongly as the 2nd tier tournament. But I imagine it will still be pretty lucrative for teams like West Ham, Leicester and Wolves to play in.

Whatever happens from here on as a result of this Super League move football will be shaken up.

A strong statement from Rummenigge with such quotes:

Do you confirm that Bayern will not enter the Super League?
Rummenigge: "We're not in it because we don't want to be part of it. We are happy to play in the Bundesliga, our bread and butter business. We are happy to make the Champions League"

Moreover, Bayern is satisfied "to reach the Champions League," Rummenigge stressed, "and we don't forget our responsibility to our fans, who are basically against such a reform." The club also has a "responsibility to soccer in general," he said

Let's say that's a stretch.

Sorry to spoil the party but lot of them won't happen in reality.

No one is kicking them out from domestic leagues as they have repeatedly said they want to stay.
The narrative that esl is boring is laughable when you have the same 14 teams competing in EPL every year. If that's not boring, this won't be either.
The epl is still going to be there but the revenue would be split. Means, you won't get this much money from the broadcasters. It won't be the cash cow that it's now.

This might even be true, but too many focus on just the ban argument here.

Let´s assume the Big 6 would stay in the EPL and play in the ESL instead of the CL.

This would still devalue the domestic league by a lot. Without the need to qualify for International competitions and absolutely no danger of relegation the only thing to play for in the EPL would be the title.

Given how unrealistic a 6 way title race would be, the logical outcome would be several of the big teams writing off the league early and simply sending out reserve squads (which they could easily afford given the cash injection the ESL provides) to play domestically. What is the difference between a distant 3rd or 12th place after all? The balancing act between national and international fixtures which often give underdog teams a fighting chance in games would be gone, the days of always seeing the top stars of the team in front of the home crowd aswell.

And suddenly the Premier League is not so premier anymore as most ressources would be reserved for this closed elite league with games that might not even all be played at the home turfs anymore but neutral venures all around the world to boost profit.

The EPL devalued, a "Super" League that can´t even call itself the league to decide the best team in Europe as it misses key player (there is a reason why Perez denied inviting Paris, Munich and Dortmund as the ESL can´t be shown as a competion that was turned down by clubs that should be there) and a CL, which is only a shadow of its former self. A bleak future, all because of greed by a few super rich who probably don´t even have interest in the Sport. Disgusting.

They'll just sell a load of shares and raise the capital to match that.

We're stuck with them unfortunately.
Hopefully a legislation to limit spending to what clubs earn and strict evaluation of books so that it is not inflated. Not letting state to buy football club. One can dream but I would be delighted if these thing happen because of this ESL.

You know Glazers might have just shat their own bed with this Super League. We could end up with real tangible reforms at the end of all this. Best case scenario. It would be totally fecking worth the stress and anxiety to the back of those fecking parasitic cnuts.

Imagine they buy back the clubs and put it in fan ownership. This would 100% be worth it.
Yeah, in the current pandemic, the UK is gonna waste 10B pounds in buying a few clubs, cause some people in the internet are unhappy.

Football is an entertainment, not something extremely important. If you get entertained, watch it, if not, watch something else. Simple as that.

Amazing if true!
I’m pleased with how Liverpool fans have reacted to this, let the owners take the club as their play thing but leave their history and what got them into this fortunate position in the first place in the past, it isn’t theirs. They’ll be taking a hollow club that isn’t Liverpool into the future.

really gutted for United and Liverpool through this. Their clubs are being gutted
