Do you want the ESL to happen?

People like you are never satisfied. Always something to moan about.

Be happy he's taken a step, even if he does play for PSG. What he's said is completely right.

never satisfied?

He plays for a club owned by a country with incredible disregard for competition. Give a shit what anyone who plays for PSG says about “sharing money out.”

There is something incredibly amusing about United fans (rightfully) condemning the SL considering at it's heart, it's got the identical goals of FFP: maximise revenue for a handful of clubs at the top, keep those top clubs at the top and stop anyone else from joining the party. There is no question that's what SL is for. There is no question that's what FFP was for. They are different approaches to the same end game.

Do you not feel any anger about this whatsoever
He clearly doesn't care about the history and traditions of the club or the game of football. He's happy to pay to see superstar players and big name clubs guaranteed to play in an elite league every year that's not based on merit. The type of fan the ESL is targeting. He's not a 'legacy fan' like us.

And when they don’t and the super league 6 finish 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th etc in the prem who qualifies for the champions league? 3rd and 5th?
or the super league teams won’t even put effort in the prem as there’s nothing to gain from it anyway, they’re already in the money SL and will be playing reserves and youth and finishing bottom half. I can’t make much sense of it

you mean the CL or the SL?

i don't really see this argument that no one will care about winning the domestic leagues anymore. teams still try and win the league right now, despite the CL. why would it change? of course everyone is going to still want to win the league.

Even if they've all got far more money and little to play for given they'll be in super league regardless of premier league position?

Imagine how dull the last few seasons would have been without any top 4 race.

PL might decide it's better to boot the 6 teams and rebuild from there.

Ultimately the Super League kills domestic football as we currently know it and I can see it failing to get off the ground because of that.

There are way of creating a super league that would work, but not this plan with a closed shop.

see above. also, people take the piss about competing for a top 4 position, and now it's being praised as making things more interesting? and the top 6 is a cash cow for the PL, they will lose money, sponsorship, tv rights, everything if they leave. the big 6 know this. they have the power.

i'm not even saying the SL is a good idea necessarily, but these arguments i don't think stand.

That was already diminished in the last two decades mate.

Utd are muddying their name even further with this tweet
well those bastards hardly ever share anything with fans - unless they want something! Would be funny if the move caused United to hire someone other than Woodentop

Spoilt City fans fury over FFP something they've shown no regard to will never not be absolutely hilarious.

He's a football player. Not his fault the owners are like that. Any football player with a passion will be against this enclosed league. Although I don't think he would've released this statement had he still been at United, he still will have the same views. Stop being so negative.

No I'm not, but just because something has popular support doesn't make it right to infringe on the rights of the choices of the owners. The tyranny of the majority is a thing to be wary of in a democracy and using popular support to get government to uphold a monopoly of the sport is facistic in the traditional sense.

Popular support doesn't make it wrong either.

The businesses operate in countries within the laws set by govts. Competition laws apply even to billionaire business owners.

As I weigh the rights of millions of fans against the rights of a few of those owners, clearly abusing their position of power in a game . I think we should set the rights of the fans as superior. If the owners don't like it they can sell up can't they? No one is forcing them to own these clubs and they knew the rules when they bought the clubs in the first place.

Or we can try to pretend that the imposition of radical permanent change without popular support within the game isn't dictatorship by an Oligarchy and call those who want it stopped fascists. The classic propaganda trick of accusing your opponent of being what you really are.

But just for arguments sake, what would a breakaway league look like? Who would be involved? Without the whole of the English football pryamid connected and involved it'll be just as hollow as the SL. I know you've shown not much care for every other club, but imagine our breakaway league was just the top 6 slugging it out with each other?

I wish we could know what's going to happen sooner to be honest, all the guesswork is exhausting. I just don't want league football in this country to be destroyed.
It is guesswork and we're speculating but Rangers and Celtic would want in. Maybe Cork City? I'm sure Everton, Newcastle and a few others would get involved for more money than the PL are currently offering. I think a breakaway is inevitable now to be honest

I'm simply saying anything could happen. Keep an open mind instead of jumping on one stance and going all in.

Let's say we get banned with the other teams from the PL. Are we really just not going to play domestic football? We'll form a breakaway league for sure.

I know this is all new and it's a lot of change but football is due something like this. Sky and the PL have had their way for 30 years.

Well let's say we remain in the Premier League (most likely scenario). The divide between us, City, Chelsea ect and the rest of the league becomes ungodly. We develop super squads as our second string and then when it looks unlikely you will win the league then you basically stop trying. Awful scenario.

Let's say we get kicked out of the Premier League, awful for our history, our tradition, the health of English football and the health of hundreds of clubs throughout the country. Awful scenario.

Name a scenario that could come out of this that is more positive than the future of football we envisioned last week.

Who stands to lose the most in the ESL out of all the clubs?

PSG.

It's a moot point, I respect it if it comes from a player from say Lille or Nantes but from PSG? Who've cheated FFP year after year and taken a shortcut to a subscription on European finals?

It's absolute bollocks. If it weren't for teams like PSG we wouldn't be in this mess.

All these posts bagging on Hererra and Neville for speaking up have a definite whiff of "Yet you participate in society, how curious..." about them.

I might be done if this actually happens.

My support in the grand scheme of things is not worth anything but I wonder how many will feel the same.

We already have the CL and it was great playing and beating PSG whilst also beating Man City domestically.

Setting this up during Covid is Puzzling too.
I actually think it’s because of the big loss resulting from COVID market which helps to make this deal happening sooner rather than later. It’s big money involved there.

Who is going to breakaway and where?

I do think its funny that some people think this would be boring. Newsflash it wouldn't be at all.

Ain't this the truth. We'd be a mid table team in 90% of the seasosns at best in a Super League.

Wanting a competition they we would never even aim to compete in couldn't be more pathetic.

I cant agree with this. This is acting as if they are happy with 400m. Theyll want to keep it increasing. Their investment of the buccaneers in this exact setup proves this. Their revenue stream will shrink with shitty tv deals if they just sit back.

Is this any surprising? We are run by bankers with the only motivation being money, they do not care about the fans.
We have known this FOR YEARS.

Have I woken up on a parallel Earth? Why are people so up in arms over this all of a sudden? Have we not been owned by the Glazers for years? Did we not know what they’re like?

Neville tweeting about socialism whilst working for Sky and never criticising the City owners. Herrera playing for PSG complaining about money ruining the game. People who openly campaigned for the Saudis to buy our club kicking off.

Have I gone utterly mad? Of course this is a shit decision but it’s the latest in a long list. If you wanted the Saudi’s to take over us, if you haven’t been up in arms about PSG or City ruining the game how on Earth is this the straw that broke the camels back?

I am surprised that Bayern and BVB really seem to stay away.

The last time Bayern seemed like one of the initiators.

Do you not feel any anger about this whatsoever
I had to genuinely think about that and I don't think I do? The league has been shit since state funded clubs were allowed, and people could leverage debt against a club and buy it. I'm all for a shakeup at this point. The playing field has been unlevel for a long time now.

Negative? Do you think this thread is a bastion of positivity?

Adam Crafton: "Agnelli called proposed CL reforms beautiful last month. Was chair of ECA. UEFA President Ceferin is godfather to his daughter and he's betrayed them all"
Juve style

It was the start no doubt about that but what's going on right now is another fecking level of greed and shame.
It is but after the last few decades I don't really care as much as I've lost my connection to football or our club. I'm still a fan but I just cant really get angry with this because football became business-centric long ago and I'm over it and just take it for what it is now.
