Erik ten Hag | 2022/23 & 2023/24

The only bad thing about criticizing Ten Hag tonight is the Ole in crew which is even more clownish and stupid than Ronaldo supporters.

Yep. There's a very fair discussion to be had about how flimsy we look away from home and how brittle our mentality is when we go a goal or two down. It will be genuinely interesting to see next season if we make improvements in this regard, and Erik needs to be able to square that circle based on a combination of tactics, personnel, and by developing the players' mentality. We have to hope he has a plan for all that, and signs so far are that he generally does have a plan.

He's clearly doing something wrong. Seems like there's an embarrassment of an away performance once a month. Losing games is not a problem but looking like a Sunday league team as often as we do points to poor preparation and tactical setup away from home.

It's easy to blame the players but this is not a one-off now and is almost a predictably bad away performance against a half decent side.

Don't blame him for today, but he needs to be ruthless in the summer. Allowing mentally weak mediocre players to remain at the club won't get us anywhere.
He’d have the credit if we won though? He has to take some blame too, this isn’t a one off

It's worrying how he seems to have no understanding of winning important away games against teams that press us.

Seems to just sit there make some subs and keep playing the same style.

We were getting killed first half, why not drop the midfielder deeper, tell the wingers to track the full-backs and see out the half? Saved by an offside then we blow second half in the first 30 seconds. Again, subs players and keeps the same formation.

Needs to be ruthless this summer. Why even try to keep DDG? Pep or Klopp wouldn't have any player that doesn't fit their style, he needs to be ruthless or he's gone this time next year. Happens with every manager

Under glazers we will never be ruthless in getting rid of players, that why we keep absolute gash players for years.

Another big game his failed to get us up for. It’s becoming a worrying trend.

As long as our CBs are Maguire and Lindelöf and we have a goalie with two wooden legs we will get punished by any pressing team.
I get that. Apart from the mistakes De Gea and Maguire made, did we ever really dominate or even pressure Sevilla even when they gave us the ball? The old mistakes of slow passing, not enough movement, no pattern of play all emerged.

Two goals absolutely gifted to them. He can't really control that.

Two own goals in the first leg. He can't control that.

Disgusting performance - yes, he can control that to an extent. But whatever. We gifted them the impetus and were playing catch up from minute 6. They played very well. I'm more disappointed in the players, who never matched the intensity of the opposition. They didn't react well enough to what was on the field. They were also really sloppy, again not ETHs fault.

Have we really improved? Performances like these scare the shit out of me. We struggle against any organised press.

Why do you think that happens? Do you think it has anything to do with DDG, Maguire, lack of a partner for Casemiro, lack of striker?

What the feck was he expecting tonight?

Every cnut in the world knew they would press and have a whipped up crowd.

Hes had a mare in these two legs.

If people are convincing themselves this loss is an anomaly and only due to injuries, we'll never, ever improve.

We have been dogshit in the majority of our away games this season and we conceded 4s, 3s, 6s and even a 7 away from home. This is the case the entire season.

We're only top 4 because of our home results.

Erik Ten Hag has improved the team, no doubt about it, but he clearly sucks ass managing us away from home.

He needs to improve this, otherwise we should stop hoping for any future title challenge and be content with top 4 as our eternal target.

And for the record, I don't remember our last 3 managers (LVG, Mourinho and Ole) getting humiliated that frequently away from home during a single season. The problem is it's multiple humiliations and all within 12 months.

We lost 2-1 to them under Ole and missed about 10 good chances.

Tonight we've been absolutely destroyed.

Ole reached the semi final and final too.
That's great. He's still about 100x inferior to Ten Hag, and genuinely if you can't see that, start watching a different sport. thanks.

Roy Keane warned Ole that these players would get any manager the sack , ETH better head that warning , if he keeps the deadwood at the club he like all the other mangers in the post Fergie era will be getting his marching orders before next season is out.

Honestly all I'll say is that this away form needs to improve by several magnitudes. It is utterly abysmal.

I am not bothered by Europa. But hopefully people will finally realise that we are nowhere ready to challenge in, let alone win the CL.

No he is not walking on any thin ice except for people without common sense, he had half his team injured and suspended for big chunk of the season. When he brings much more of his players in then he should be judged, not because he is suffering from mistakes of players of Ole reign.

So we have to spent another 250 million on his targets to not get wrecked by the 13th in La Liga? Okay.

Can he motivate them for at least one decent performance away from home?

The horrible thing was his first choice midfield pair was atrocious. Couldn’t keep the ball or defend. How?

Wumming
Right now there is a manager on the market in Nagelsmann, we need to get in contact with that guy and let this guy go sooner than later.

He's not exactly adaptable is he?

Once we start playing shite he does nothing to change it immediately and then when he finally changes things it's too late by far.

There have been times this season where his subs have come on and saved the day but generally he's slow to implement change and seems lost when things aren't going our way which isn't much different to Ole, Jose, LVG or Moyes.

In some ways we've changed and in many ways we're still the same brittle, broken club that we have been for a decade.

ETH has already won a trophy. How many did Ole win?

The Ole apologists are so fecking weird. He was a disaster of a manager.

Have a look at who we played. Newcastle was the only decent team we played. All home ties too.

This Sevilla team are 5pts ahead of the relegation zone.

You mean the guy that just got sacked by Bayern? I'd say they're a better judge of who's a good manager than we are all things considered.

Jesus some of the posts in this thread . We absolutely destroyed this team in the first leg and but for some terrible luck would have ended the tie. We then end up missing 5 definite starters and our captain & most experienced player decide to gift a goal to start this tie. Hard to blame the manager in this

We lost control after 30 minutes of that first leg and never regained it -the manager was seemingly powerless to change that dynamic. We really should be beating the likes of Seville over 180:minutes, irrespective of injuries.

Please, please, why do you want to play out from the back with Maguire and De Gea? WHY?! It's so fecking bizarre.

The squad is still shite. I’m not sure what some of you nutters expect.

De Gea, Lindelof, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, Dalot, McTominay, Fred, Elanga, Pellistri, Weghorst.

These aren’t top players. Not even close.

We’ve only got about six, maybe seven of them, and five of them didn’t even start tonight. Bruno, Varane, Martinez, Shaw and Rashford not in the team. What the feck did you expect?

I get that. Apart from the mistakes De Gea and Maguire made, did we ever really dominate or even pressure Sevilla even when they gave us the ball? The old mistakes of slow passing, not enough movement, no pattern of play all emerged.

Oh yes! The entire team was abysmal tonight. Sloppy passing, weak duels and no ideas going forward. But it all starts at the back line.

Why do you think that happens? Do you think it has anything to do with DDG, Maguire, lack of a partner for Casemiro, lack of striker?
Yes they made mistakes but they weren’t making mistakes all game. Why did other players play so bad? Eriksen is supposed to be our creative central midfielder but he didn’t do his job, Savitzer was playing as a striker, Martial playing in no man’s land, why the collective shit show for the entire duration?

He did more good stuff than bad this season. And it is his first season so with top 4 (if he gets there) and trophy it is a good first season.
But next year there will be no excuses. If he blocks transfers of Harry, McT, Elanga and some other players just because he "wants depth" then it is all on him next season.
Excuse for players inherited can go for this season. For next not.

I will judge him on what he does in the summer about DDG, if he still retains him then I will be worried for his prospects next season.

I can accept him being forced to play Maguire and Lindelof but not DDG next season, alright to persist with DDG this season but not beyond that

Not an Ole apologists by any stretch but that Carabao Cup had a lot of luck involved in terms of favorable home draws and Newcastle were the better team in the final .
We really aren't as good as we are. We need to be more humble

Obviously want to see how we are after another summer and with the full squad.

Can't help but be concerned about our away form though, it's one thing to have patchy/inconsistent form it's another to routinely be that weeks comedy act and the bar keeps getting lower. It's actually quite embarrassing and the manager has to take some blame. The biggest concern is that there was never a point Utd were on top, no reaction after half time, no reaction after the 2nd.

If we get Qatari owners, he will be in trouble (as he should). So far, he has been Sancho of managers. Good at nothing but somehow getting praised.

If we don’t get top four, he should be out in the summer. Otherwise, give him another season but I am scared that we are repeating the same mistakes we have been doing for the last 10 years. Giving both the players and the manager too much time.

Said it a few weeks back but fighting on all fronts was always going to cost us and look at this shit show.

Now we've insisted on rushing players back from injury only for them to get injured again, top 4 isn't secure yet and Brighton will murder us. Serious questions about the managements grasp on reality.
