At least we don’t get Southgate. However, I am afraid we will be back in the same situation after a wasted year.

Not that, but if they decided based on the fa cup final, that's just very reactive mWeighing up all the options can be good leadership.
The have more data than you have.
Doesn't really matter if you can't beat him does it?
Yep. I’m done complaining, but I won’t accept us lowering the standards..

While I can at least see the rationale in keeping him, even if I don’t agree with it, is there any need for the contract extension outside of a show of confidence?
I mean it’s clear that there were at least some doubts about him at some point this season. I feel like the extension just adds an added layer of complexity if things don’t actually get better this coming season.
I'm "thrilled" that the fans reaction played a big role in this .
But oh well, here we are. I will always support the manager and hope he does well, cause that is only good for our beloved team.
But, I actually hope they wait with giving him an extension, because this might not turn out to be a good decision. Yes I'm not confident about this, mostly because what we saw this season. I really, really hope he proves me wrong.
He's only got a year left on his contract.
If they don't offer him a new contract now it suggests that they have zero faith in him.
It's already been confirmed that new contract talks are underway.
There will be a lot of "I told you sos" one way or another in this thread by the end of next season.
Let’s hope that he has become humble enough to learn from the mistakes last season. If he can do that he may last. If he can’t then I expect more results and performances like the season just ended and he will be out of a job by Christmas.
I really don’t see this as a thing to celebrate since the jury is pretty much still out on him. The pressure this season will be enormous and there can be no excuses.
however glad that we can now move on with preparing for the new season. Time will tell if INEOS got it right or wrong.
no need for people to be insulting each other. We all want what’s best for United.
It was a factor, and winning trophies should be a factor. I'd say the players reaction was also a factor. Just two of many many factors though.
We should address Shaw issue as it's a persistent one, he's going to get injured again so we need a viable, reliable backup.
If Martinez is out for a significant portion of season then obviously you need to adjust your expectations. If he's as good as we perceive him to be, he's irreplaceable.
Perfectly put. Thank youLet’s hope that he has become humble enough to learn from the mistakes last season. If he can do that he may last. If he can’t then I expect more results and performances like the season just ended and he will be out of a job by Christmas.

Really hope for a strong start. I want him to make us believe again. Season 1 I thought we were heading the right way.Reasonable take.
I think, above all else, what ETH needs more than anything is a strong start to the season. Even if performances falter further along in the season, a strong start will get him more patience during that time, I think. We need to see something positive from the start of the season to have some positivity in what he's doing.

, I think it'll be clear by Christmas whether this was the right decision.

Fans reaction to Ten Hag also, I know that Andy Mitten done a poll and showed it to Ten Hag, he mentioned it in his podcast.
People actually dismissing a trophy like its just another game is crazy. Its the manner of the victory and opposition. It was against City who we dont beat in finals and they dont lose games when it comes to the end of the season.
He is calling the newspaper a rag not the journalist and yes it was Steinburg who is a Chelsea reporter isn't he?No. That was Steinburg in the Guardian.
One way or other, I think it'll be clear by Christmas whether this was the right decision.
Yeah although our polls are 50/50, from what I've read and from fans I've spoken to, most were in favour of him staying.
Yeah, a cup final is not only one game like any other. Trophy wins have frequently altered the the trajectory of a team and manager. Final defeats the same.
And yes, the opposition and the manager of the victory are also factors.
That said, all it has earned him is a reprieve. He has no margin of error now.
No!Yes, it’s very positive? We apparently had the worst season ever with the worst injury crisis we’ve had and yet we were 8 points off CL places and won a cup. Even if we sign nobody but have better injury luck, do you not think it’s reasonable to think we’d do better? Add in a few new players and I’d say it’s very reasonable to think we can then bridge the gap back to the CL places?
He had a hell of a lot to deal with to be honest. Hopefully we sort out the Greenwood and Sancho situations and either Rashford is sold or he has sorted himself out over the summer. The Saudi's also need to come in for Casemiro. The board have kept him, so now they have to back him with correct signings that fit the style wanted and fit the club character wise. After reading that, I'm more convinced it was essential to keep ETH this summer and show the players they can't keep getting managers sacked. Hopefully a lot of the problems can now be dealt with and we'll have a more cohesive season next year.
Whats caused the injuries over the past 5/6 years? The same training regime? No!
Read it again:
....only 8 points behind Aston Villa....
Let it sink in.
We are Manchester United, btw.
Injury luck? Do you really believe it is luck and not the training regime that has caused the injuries?
What about the total lack of identity and the poor overall play on the pitch?
I'll gladly eat my words, but I think you'd have a better chance of winning the Lottery than we have of becoming one of the 4 best teams in England next season with ETH as manager.
I'm curious what your stance will be then, as you've been a very staunch supporter of ETH. Not 3 PL games but let's say 7 PL games and Ten Hag is making the same mistakes.I think we will know in the first 3 PL games if it is the right decision.
We played Wolves last season in the opening game, the signs of us being open were all there.
Obviously, December for results but the way we play in the first 3 PL games will tell us if Ten Hag has learnt at all or not.
As others have said it could also be they are changing the terms of the contract with an extension. Not allowing him to dictate who the club buy, also performance clauses that if not achieved will lessen any compensation due.Extending his contract is straight out of the Woodward playbook. He's lucky to get a year to prove himself.
In what way? Temper our expectations?fan base probably needs to humble itself a bit
No!

Why should we wait that long and sacrifice yet another season. My take is that he needs to hit the ground running, keeping pace with the top 4 teams or in the top 4 to even finish the season. If he has us staggering around 8th or 9th the he should go whilst the season is still salvageable, they made the wrong call now and there is no need to make things worse by persisting with a failure. The FA Cup bought him some time but it would be criminal negligence to waste another season on him.A decision is made!
Like it or not, at least the club can focus on next season now.
Get the signings right, focus on improving our play and go all out for top 4 and EL.
Failure to qualify for the CL and he should and will go.
