Maybe the plan was to turn all EtH outers into being for him to stay. This has gone on so long with other candidates taking other jobs and rejecting that it seems like we are just better off keeping ETH now.

it’s a complete shitshow and unfortunately it can get even worse if we decide to appoint Southgate.

This. Every day with "silent treatment" from the club is ETH getting closer to the sack. It's just a matter of arrangements in the backoffice. Like I said, I'm not too bothered about that dragging on a bit.
Nah, there drawing up a brand new contract for him and rightly so, we are on the brink of something big with ETH.

Exactly this... I don't get it either. If you already decided to sack him, just do it. If you want to make a review after the season, do it together with the manager to see if you agree on what has to change and then decide if you go the way with or without him. Starting a review after the season has ended, but not including the manager just looks wrong to me.

With LVG, he was sacked right after the FA cup win, because he missed top4, our standards were higher back then, or we already had Mourinho lined up even before LVG was sacked(strange because we lost 4th on gd if I remember right, or we were close to City).
Now, we either don't have a replacement for ETH(amateurish to say the least) or if the board still want him, say it out loud, give him another year at least we know.
If we, by any chance, are waiting on Southgate it must be a mental decision, I might just don't care anymore.

So, Southgate plans to quit England if they don't win the Euro's... Oh Dear God, this is happening, isn't it... Please God, please, just not him.

Stop crying over hypotheticals you've made in your head.

While every day that goes by obviously makes this feel closer, it seems very unlikely. England can't really be officially eliminated until at least the 2nd match day, which is June 20th.

I don't think they're going to wait another week and a half to decide anything, especially as he can't sign anything and could easily decide not to take the job.

England will probably get out of the group anyway, so you're looking at a longer wait then than that for Southgate. If they don't make it out the group, then hiring him would be even more of a PR disaster. The only way they could justify his appointment would be winning England's first trophy since 1966, but the final isn't until 14th July.

It just doesn't add up. If the reports about moving on from other candidates is true, then it seems most likely that EtH will stay, at least at the moment.

No it isn’t, it’s been drummed up by the media because Ashworth has worked with him in the past.

The ever looming specter of Sir Waistcoat all season if he stays on will be sickening...

A quick look at Paddy Power

Next United Manager top3:

- Poch 10/3
- Tuchel 7/2
- Southgate 4/1

Ten Hag to manage first day of the season:

- Yes 11/10
- No 4/7

So basically no one has a fecking clue what is going on (you can still donate money to Paddy Power and back Hansi Flick at 25/1).

I'll be honest, I think Ten Hag is going to stay, as that's the only logical explanation. The available options are awful in comparison and surely INEOS appreciate that the fans want to see good football, something that Southgate literally doesn't do, even with the world's greatest attacking depth at his disposal.

Dont worry Erik your not the only one growing frustrated at the clubs terrible handling of this situation.

INEOS handling of this so far has been disgraceful.

At this point United fans should not be giving that journalist any time of day. He clearly has no idea what is going on and is probably frustrated himself.

He definitely has no insights at United.

All getting pretty pathetic at this point. The Glazers would have hired De Zerbi by now, and leaked they would spend big to correct the season by now .

I really hope it's more secrecy and less indecisiveness, that is the reason for all this.

This fecking debacle that INEOS has brought on themselves, is making the preseason/start of the new season and this new "INEOS", (for me) pretty annoying and skeptical towards their actual capabilities to run a huge club like MU.

With the shitshow squad, having to get rid of players and an budget of supposedly only £35m not to mention almost zero control over anything I think managers are walking away rather than us passing them up... beginning to dread that we will be stuck with the useless baldy for another season by default

Yeah but no, I don't think Burt has a direct link into EtH's brain. What other clubs are making huge inroads transfer wise so far? There's international comps on, it's going to be slow no matter who the manager is, especially when we have to shift a fair few.

You're only getting frustrated because the press are telling you to be. Do yourself a favour and log off to just focus on things other than football, at least until the Euros/Copa America starts.

There are four scenarios here:
1. ETH is staying. INEOS didn't meet any other manager => Logical path.
2. ETH is staying. INEOS did meet other managers => This is not a path sensible people will take and does not reflect well upon INEOS if true.
3. ETH is leaving. INEOS didn't meet any other manager => INEOS is stupid.
4. ETH is leaving. INEOS did meet other managers => Logical path.

Going by this, I'd guess if they met with other managers, it probably means ETH has been informed already that he's going to be fired. Then why hasn't he been shown the door yet before his holiday?

Which makes me believe 1 is the most logical step and the journos don't have a clue.

The delay in sacking ETH is partly a cosmetic PR exercise. INEOS made it known before the cup final he was getting sacked regardless of the result but when he won it in some style they didn't want to piss off the fans by doing a van Gaal. Hence the delay.

Secondly they need to announce the new manager pretty much straight away to deal with the backwash of hostility sacking ETH will generate from those who think he was the right guy in the wrong club. Finding said new manager isn't proving easy because they need a yes man who will accept very limited resources, will have no say on transfers and will get scapegoated out of the nearest window minus their reputation this time next year when he doesn't outperform. Unsurprisingly nobody credible is that keen.

And most of them were going to leave on a free that summer. My point is you can have surgery but whats the point of opening the heart, carrying out the surgery and then leaving it?

Still have to close it all up and let the heart mend. We have just not done enough in the window to progress.

Because there's very little of the heart left to operate on, it's done. Time to call it.

Seriously though I get what you're saying and I don't disagree we need new blood. But the poster I was replying to was talking as if there hasn't already been huge turnover in the squad. There has, it's virtually a new squad. Now it might not be good enough but the majority of the current players weren't in the squad 2 years ago.

Maybe we're trying to convince FDJ to manage us.

It simply doesn't add up now, either we're being kept waiting by a candidate/ETH or there's some kind of date hurdle we have to get past for financial/legal reasons. It'll all come out eventually then we can judge if our new leadership are idiots.

It's just people being silly. Ashworth has stated how the setup works and that the manager will obviously have a major say on transfers, he's more or less said that anything else would be a daft idea

That's overlooking the very huge and necessary change that the manager will no longer determine the style of play, the style of play will determine the manager. So yes the manager will have a say but ultimately the purchases can proceed without his approval. And if he kicks back too much he gets sacked.

Yes, we got rid of alot of players, we just didnt replace them with quality, which is the reason we always have to go back to the heart surgeon every season.

We need to build a squad, which we are seeing signs of with Licha, Dalot, Mainoo, Amad, Garnacho, Hojlund. We need to stop getting short term deals for first teamers like Evans, Ambrabat, Casemiro, Eriksen, Weghorst.

If we signed good young players this summer in CB, CM, ST, then we can say, yes our squad is beginning to take shape now.

I blame the fanbase suddenly going from wanting him out to foaming at the mouth at the suggestion due to the FA cup win

One of INEOS’s first major decisions since taking over and they’re making a right pigs ear of it.

Only if they get it wrong. If whoever they decide on ends up being successful then it won't matter how long they take to actually make this decision.

Erm no I wasn't, when I was talking about open heart surgery - I wasn't just talking about players in or out.

IMO Ralph wasn't talking about just that. I did say we need to buy 4/5 players - but that comment was never just about the squad it was about the culture and the mentally as well.

Nah, i'm not overlooking it, it's just completely irrelevant to the "yes man" debate as they'll pick someone to fit the style of play, they won't hire someone that stands for the complete opposite and then tell him to change.

Long story short, Ineos have completely fecked it and are a bunch of clueless ditherers

If you were Sir Gareth of Southgate would you really say yes to the job knowing 99% of the fanbase don't want you? I know I wouldn't.
Would be amazing if they did go for him and he said " No fecking chance, are you mad"?

Wasted a month ogling Southgate from afar, tapping at his window hoping he'll come and talk to them.
