Yeah, he also won 4 previous rounds in the FA Cup including beating Klopps all conquering Liverpool. Also beat Newcastle in last year's League Cup final and spanked that small club namely Barcelona in European competition last season.

Must be out of his depth eh?

No Premier League or Champions League though mate. Were you championing for his sack back then? Why not?

I can't help but continuously take this as an insult toward SAF.

There was a loon in here the other week suggesting that Ferguson wasn't even that great of a manager, he only became a great manager because of United giving him time to develop into one.

Was just reading the article in Sky Sports about McKenna renewing with Ipswich, and they seemed convinced we were in for him. At the end of the article it said Ten Hag will be sacked if Ineos can find a better manager that is available. If that's the position then it's not a good look for ETH really, even if he stays.

It went on to say that, ETH thinks he's the right man and that if we don't get injuries and we can sign a CB, CM and ST then he believes we'll be better next season  No shit, Erik! I suppose you can draw some parallels between him and Pep after all.. both chequebook managers. Although at least Pep gets a high standard from his teams and improves players. We need all of this to compete for top 4.

We really fell off. Some years back United fans would have collectively cringed at this sort of stuff

flexing FA cups on a player that won titles and Champions League with United, and one that's currently still an employee of the club. All this for a random bald man from Holland that had us finish 8th with an overdraft in GD :(
People were told once to stand by our manager. That directive was taken in without nuance and it's followed no matter what. Former legends are shat on, someone called Sheringham a prick the other day for example. Results and performance are irrelevant, Manchester United is irrelevant, standing by our manager is all that matters.

Although SAF said "Stand by our new manager" not all of them no matter what.

Would pep have won the FA cup though with an half injured squad? I doubt he would have got past Liverpool. Also I think ETH probably wins the final if he had city and pep had the squad we had.

Mick Phelan got it too.

I don't know. I think we'd play better football and City worse if the roles were reversed. I bet they'd not win half as much under Ten Hag. Pep is a much, much better coach. It's not even in question for me. Pep won the PL without a striker through adapting, so I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that he'd fail if he didn't have everything he needed.

And let's not forget, it wasn't a full strength Liverpool we beat. We were missing 3 starters, as were they. Even at full strength they have been below their previous levels this season.

indeed, seems to manage cup competitions really well. Wonder what Real would do to a manager that finished 8th with a negative goal difference though.

Ajax under him have largely been underwhelming in European competitions.

Apologies if this viewpoint touches a nerve but I think I am right in my point of view.

Some of the posts on this forum and particularly in this thread are far removed from the significant majority viewpoint of many reds fans who support our manager and want him to stay at the helm.

Mocking his silverware collection in his first 2 seasons is just plain ridiculous particularly when the club failed to pick up any silverware in the preceding 5 years before he came.

For those using the lazy Mourinho argument of winning 2 trophies in his first season, what teams did Mourinho beat in the final when he won those 2 trophies? Yes, thats right, the heavyweights of European football Southampton and a rather abject Ajax. Certainly Mourinho did not face a treble winning team and all conquering manager in Pep, did he?

This over eagerness to ridicule our manager is becoming tiresome and there's clearly a strong argument for suspecting that some of these posters have alternative agendas.
You cant judge by what fans say. Fans are fickle, before the FA cup all polls were for ETH to get the sack, we won one game and guess what in 24 hrs all polls changed. Just remember we had our worse season finish in the last 30 years, GD-1, record number of losses and finished last in an easy CL group. Also remember that thanke to VAR that ruled that goal ''offside'' against the mighty Coventry that we played a half drunk team last Sunday !! One game cant define a horrendous season simple as that.

So no news at all means he is staying right? I mean I am sure by now all of the staff is on holidays already

Our transition to a small club is going really well at least.

Wow, relax mate, it's a joke. Also I'm ten Hag out but we won a trophy a week ago while our ex-players who exited the club (well Sancho only on loan) in a bad fashion (never mind how much of it was theirs fault) lost. Shame for Sabitzer though.
I have no problem calling out ronaldo for his antics, but bigging up a manager that hasn't done a lot, to a player that helped us win so many titles doesn't sit very well with me.

I don't see how, they need to clarify things either way, and it's hardly a vote of confidence them not having it done it yet if he is staying.

I'm just waiting for the news of who is replacing him personally, not that he is staying.

So…Fergie’s 13 PL titles mean nothing according to your logic, since he did not face an “all conquering manager in Pep” during his reign.

Also going by your logic, ETH’s league cup win last season matters little because he faced “heavyweights” like burnley, Charlton and forest on the way to the final.

Easy to make these points without considering our chronic injury crisis during the season. How many centre back pairings again?
So you reckon he could not have done any better?

They need to either extend his contract or sack him, we can't go into next season with him in his last year, that really wouldn't inspire faith.

I'm assuming the review began last Monday, so perhaps we'll hear something tomorrow?

Who did we sign that he didn't want?? Feel like the club actually gave him even too much power when it came to transfers, he had carte blanche to go after his targets when feasible (FDJ was not)

Surely he wouldn’t be stupid enough to come out with this while his job is under review?

Red rag to a bull stuff…

Im sorry what's that now???

18-19: Reached the semi finals.
19-20: Eliminated in the group stage of the CL and eliminated in the round of 32 of the EL by Getafe.
20-21: Eliminated in the group stage of the CL and in QF of the EL by Roma.
21-22: Topped their group and eliminated by Benfica in the round of 16.

That's underwhelming, there is basically one remarkable campaign and the rest is on par or below par(especially in the EL)

It's just typical stuff from him, he's ducking and diving and trying to deflect blame. Not long ago he said the "conditions were perfect" working with Murtough on transfers.
Either way doubt INEOS will be very impressed, given the amount of money blown.

Starting to think ETH is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Whether or not he is a good or bad coach, the problem is not Ten Hag. The problem is an incoherent squad that can't play the same type of football from one area of the field to the next, purchased by a club with no footballing philosophy to guide them, appointing managers with huge leaps from one style to another, amid antiquated facilities. That's a recipe for failure no matter who the coach is because you end up starting over again and again. The negligence of the Glazers (who have not gone anywhere) will take years to reverse. We have barely started.

The club needs to choose a basic style of play before it appoints a new coach. And it seems to have not done that yet.

Finally a sensible post. I personally don't believe it matters as much who we have coaching this team, we are in transition. Give EtH his ideal player profiles and he probably wins the league. You can say the same for a good few managers including the rumoured replacements. Getting a cohesive squad together is the only thing that will get us back to where we need to be, a backline of AWB, Maguire, Evans and Dalot isn't winning a league title.

The goal in a hypothetical 3rd would again be to make top 4 with ETH apparently.

A reset back to square 1.

The scary part is that you actually believe this.

Well as I said - It's a joke and I'm ten Hag out actually.

A good summer for the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs and Villa and I think we'll have our work cut out under Ten Hag. I'd have more belief if I'd seen us look effective against the different teams and tactics that we come up against throughout a season, but that's simply not been the case. And I think the glaring gaps in our setup and lack of control over games will continue, no matter who we sign.
