Who's idea was it anyway to let all these lunatic newbies post in the generals and football forums?

Would this even be surprising given the fact that there are 4 teams with arguably stronger squads and a new manager who gets thrown in front of the biggest disaster of a team with only one new starter? You're talking 6 months as if he can sort all this shite out in half a season with this team.

He needs time and resources to build a winning squad. The fact we still don't even have a true CDM is ridiculous and not really his fault either. With the squad that we have it basically feels like a tryout season, auditions for ETH. He's placing his trust in players half the Caf have written off because he has no other options except for some unproven youngsters.

That said, I do have faith in him to do better simply because he showed he's a good manager, Ajax was a managers' graveyard before he joined with the exception of Frank de Boer.

But it is....he's solely focused on FDJ, a player that has continually said he doesn't want to leave and if he does leave he wants champions league football which we can't offer.

I'm not really sure why people are continually ignoring this fact. I know there's complications in the deal but by now we should've identified a back up CDM at the very least.

I guess people can't wait to see mcfred lining up against Brighton.

Always love how people are able to draw conclusions from things that haven't happened.

I have thought this exact same thought.

If Murough et al count their chickens before they are hatched in the same way, no wonder they are incompetent, and I think they should definitely all be fired. Now. Unless we then get to see De Jong in midfield for us, even if he actually goes to Chelsea. What a triumph, so typical of Chelsea post Roman (loud trumphant laughter ensue)!

Well there were numerous reports after it happened stating they were given permission to leave early so someone at the club has obviously told the media that was the case. Now the manager is doing an interview stating the complete opposite. A lack of communication all round and it’s making the club look Mickey Mouse yet again.

The club should have consulted the manager before briefing anyone. This same stuff happened under he who shall not be named. With the club stroking the egos of players who wanted to be indulged and the coach ending up as 'the bad guy' cos he refused. When you do this you erode the authority of the dugout cos it starts to seem like the coach and club aren't united. Another question mark for me about the Arnold-Murtough era.

I can't wait for the weekend. Buzzing to the league to begin.

Reality is, Ten Hag has approx 6 transfers or 2 windows before pressure mounts on his job. Wasting a window chasing De Jong was his risk to make. He'll take the fall in 2024 if he gambled incorrectly.

Yeah needs to sign CDM/DLP, CM, RB, RW and CF across next couple of windows

Is ETH a bit right wing for UTD? I know he's a hard taskmaster etc but UTD are a far bigger club that Ajax. Potential boardroom battle coming up maybe..........
I hope not by the way - but backing this guy 100% may mean a lot of fans favourites leaving the club.

Is this a popularity contest or a football team? sheesh. Who cares if a favourite leaves if they aren't pulling their weight.

Nah he's doing just fine. The board would be fools not to back him. Otherwise we'd be in free fall. We need a disciplinarian. The shit culture cannot continue.

Fans need to back him, even though some shit results. It's very important.

Plus after the shit performances from last season, most fans have no more patience for the players.

In any case, I'm sure ETH has dealt with the situation and is moving on - as should the players themselves.

If ETH sees De Jong as a very important piece in the team then there's logic in us still going after De Jong until the deal is dead, as long as our alternatives will still be available by that time. Which seems to be the case

If reports are anything to go by, EtH rejected the suggestions drawn up by our scouting department. So, we are only working on his say-so. We need to strike a better balance for next transfer window, but the blame of this window will be firmly laid on the door of EtH by our board, and they know this too.

Reality is, we don't know that he specified we should waste the window to chase De Jong. There are so many variables. A couple of possible examples...

- maybe he gave a full list of players to the board which weren't delivered

- lack of CL and Uniteds recent poor performances could've played a part in putting top class players off

Not turning against him at all.

I am very much looking forward to seeing what this man can achieve with us.

Was just pointing out, an obvious fact.
Your sh!tty opinion isn’t based on any facts at all just hearsay and reports. Unless sir you are well connected and have a close relationship with both FDJ, Ten Hag and the Utd board, which i then take back my post.

So many assumptions and overstatements in this post...

"But it is....he's solely focused on FDJ"

Unless you are an employee in the United football organization, you have no clue to what extent this is true.. You only know what people, so called journalist who have been repeating themselves for weeks/months now have tweeted...

It's quite safe to assume that Ten Hag really really sees Frenkie as him primary option and is willing to wait until very late in the transfer deadline to move on, but you have no way of knowing what man utd is focused on... Later in your post you are stating this as a fact? Come on dude...
"a player that has continually said he doesn't want to leave"

He said himself only once he doesn't want to leave, which was during the international period at the end of last season.. We have The rest of the times you have read it, were only tweets and articles about mentioned journalists... Since then so much has happened regarding his situation.. The context at that moment was very different. People can change their minds, especially if circumstances change.. Frenkie de Jong hasnt commented ONCE since the international break at the end of last season on an possible transfer.. Continuously? Come on dude...

"if he does leave he wants champions league football which we can't offer"
He has never said this, never. You have only read it from tweets and articles about mentioned journalists... Never has he said this.. Come on dude...

Even though what you are implying might be true... That Ten Hag has no plan B, Frenkie might really not want to leave Barcelona regardless of the situation at the club and his contract, he might only consider moving towards clubs who play CL... But you have absolute no way of knowing this for sure because your only source of information are articles/tweets from journalist who are wrong more often than they are right...

"I'm not really sure why people are continually ignoring this fact."
So how on earth can you state what you are implying in your post above this sentence as a 'fact'?

This is - also outside of football - such a massive societal problem.. People just takings things they read from 2nd/3rd hand sources as facts...

I don’t understand why fans are more worried about the players we have and need than actually believing and trusting in Ten Hag that atleast he can turn these players into challenging top 4 atleast.

Under Ten Hags tutelage he gave first team debuts to Gravenberch, Timber, Dest, Mazraoui etc from the academy who then went on to move on to big clubs. He also massively improved players likeTadic, De ligt, Ziyech, Haller, De Jong, Martinez who also then moved on to big clubs. You see the trend?

We should have faith that he can turn some academy players and some current first team players into capable players to challenge for top 4. He even said so himself that if he can’t find the right DM he will develop one within the squad.

I’m not worried going into the season because I know it will take time. Atleast 2 more windows for him to have his desired squad that will challenge on all fronts.

not sure I can think of any fan favourites these days

True!
I like the hardline approach = Im a child of the Alex Ferguson era, I saw Stam, Kanchelskis, Keane, RVN all leave. I was a bit sad about Keane though..........

Totally agree - just pointing it out - the last manager we had who was rightwing was Fergie. So its been a while and some fans will struggle to get used to it again.
His first victim looks like Ronnie! That alone will have some fans slitting their wrists!

What does "rightwing" mean? Authoritative?

Please explain what you mean by right wing. This is some kind of mistranslation surely?

Just seen the Ten Hag response with subtitles. Assuming the subtitles are accurate I think he handled the question superbly.

He made a point of defending Ronaldo over entering late for preseason.

He also said Ronaldo wasn't the only one to leave early and followed it saying it wasn't acceptable for any player to leave early.

This way he didn't make it about Ronaldo whilst also laying down a marker, very clever.

Anybody who claims that Ten Hag is picking a fight with Ronaldo obviously hasn't seen this video. He is treating everyone the same.

If by right wing you mean authoritative, do you thing Van gaal and Mourinho aren't?
It was just Ole who gave liberties.

If it's true that we're looking for De Jong, a backup GK, another RB and an attacker I have even more confidence in Ten Hag. That's extremely logical, and a team of:

---------------------------------------Martial(FW)
Rashford(Garnacho)----------------------------------------------Sancho(_____)
-------------------------------Bruno(VDB)---------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------Eriksen(McTominay)----------------------
--------------------------------------De Jong (Fred)---------------------------------------
Shaw/Malacia---Martinez/Lindelof---Maguire/Varane-----Dalot/RB
-----------------------------------De Gea (#2)

Ideally Cristiano would have wanted to just stay and we'd sign a left-footed RW, and also I long to see McTominay in another jersey, but the rest all looks pretty good apart from being light in terms of tackling in the midfield.

The rules? There used to be a separate newbie forum and you could only post there until you've proved yourself.

Im not saying someone is right or wrong, surely rules are rules but you dont have to be rude right? All i can see is that some people have ego problems, skip those newbie posts and thats it. No need to be triggered so quick. We have stuff whos job is to ban and delete "stupid" questions etc. No need to be sheriff. Drink a beer mate and enjoy.
Im just quoting you 'cause you reply with argument, nothing towards you. Cheers mate.

Is that really how it works in England? I know the manager has massive power but for nobody to step in and say "you know what? We have more cdms on the list, we should pursue them as well" is absolutely bonkers!

At Ajax it was Overmars who eventually called the shots so I was assuming Murtough had a bigger role, or better said, a better understanding of recruitment and a bigger voice.

Overmars is already familiar with the philosphy. Murtough wants to support the manager by getting him the right profile of players, and judging from our track record under LVG, probably doesn't trust the scouts to come up with shoddy alternatives.

Fergie right wing? Christ I’ve heard it all now.

Staunch socialist and union shop steward on the Glasgow docks in his teens, right wing. Incredible.

Not usually. United are just in total flux where everybody in recruitment essentially is either new or recently promoted in Murtough’s case, so still new to this area. The recruitment team that oversaw so many failures got the boot/restructered in April so it’s still pretty chaotic, hence for this summer Erik has more autonomy than would ideally be the case.
