ETH has been given an impossible job. I’m not sure there are many managers out there that would succeed with the platform United have given them.

If Ten Hag had inherited the current city team and its structure, he would have been successful.
I do understand where you’re coming from

However

Even with the difficult job he has, you’d expect a top manager would at least have shown some roots and positive signs by now. A bit of “ok it’s not working but I can see the idea” - I don’t get that with Ten Hag. Since the League Cup win, there hasn’t even been a hint of promise over a period, just individual matches

Yes as its exactly the same, bar the 400m spent and 2 years of training

I have no idea what you're on about? The seasons were both fecking depressing as feck. Why are you talking about the context behind them which had zero to do with my comment.

No-one is forcing him to set up his midfield in this nonsensical way and to continue with it despite the obvious issues it has caused. Have to be able to expect that a supposedly top manager is capable of adapting his tactics to fit the players he has.

That situation is enough to lose trust in him.

If INEOS keep him for next season I'd lost all faith in them.

24/25 will tell whether they are for real or just paper tigers.

What is the basis of any of those statements?

United is definitely a very tough job but certainly not impossible. Ole, who many here consider to be a championship level coach at best, got this team performing much more cohesively for much longer than Erik has managed to. Its definitely not impossible to get this team performing much better than the shambles we have seen the entire season.

Given that Pep, who is acknowledged as a genius manager universally, is still battling out in a three way title race, I find it hard to believe that EtH would be able to replicate the same kind of success. Certainly, his CV and past achievements whilst good, do not scream out a elite manager. The United job was his audition to elevate himself to that level, and he has failed miserably.

I said if we didn't make the final then he should be sacked. It felt like a defeat. VAR saved us at the end by a few inches at most!

I don't feel like I can be proactively ten Hag out, but he has lost my support by continuing to play Rashford and Antony, whilst consistently subbing Mainoo and Garnacho.

Nice and their Swiss team alone should make sure everyone is skeptical. But this is United fans we're talking about.

Any manager that doesn't see the limitations of a player like Rashford, and agrees on an extension deserves a sacking.

I'd just like to see how he does with a proper structure in place, SJR appears to be doing that, I'd give give him another year to see how it works out.

We'll be running out of managers wanting the job soon, unless its a payday.

He doesn't deserve a chance with a proper structure. This is just madness.

Are you in an abusive relationship with our manager?

Nonsense, we've sacked fewer managers in the post-SAF era than all our peer clubs. None of them are running out of managers to hire, are they?

How many people really felt we had the game wrapped up at 3-0? I bet most of us were just waiting to see how we were going to throw it away.
The last 10 years I've felt we needed two goals just for a chance of a draw. I haven't been confident of a win in any match we played in that time. Football is cyclical and we seem to be finally putting proper people to get us back in contention.
The one thing I'm really fecking sick with is the attitude of some of our players. I would take six John O'Sheas and half a Keane right now and build on that before I would consider any contract renewal or pay Increase for this squad.
I think a sensible option in Unai Emery to kick things off for us. We need fire in our bellies and he has some of that as well as being competant in the league and Europe. ETH has failed since the league cup final and this season should be it for him unfortunately. He should have kept Ralf around.

The idea of another year is more plausible if he has 2+ years left of his contract. I don’t think that realistically you can be giving him another year when that’s all he has left on his contract. The manager won’t feel supported and it makes it easier for the players to not respect his authority.

If he stays beyond June and doesn’t perform, he’d only get until November/December

For me, they either have to back him fully and with a new contract, or get a manager they do back fully. And I think giving him a new contract would be very bold

We reached the FA Cup final. No player celebration, no fans celebration. Then, ETH comes our and says it’s an achievement. I don’t care if half the team is injured, it is Coventry, we should anyway be playing team b against them.

i do not put all the blame on him, players have to perform. But he has proven to lack in match tactical creativity. He’s so static. His substitutions and bad again and again. Why keep Rashford today and take off Garnacho? What game was he watching? AWB was terrible, absolutely terrible at LB. Why not try to switch with Dalot?

I really wanted him to do well. but it is now depressing how bad we are. Could’ve thrown away a 3-0 lead in a semi final against a championship team. This is how much we lack character

What a load of crap. Sacking managers is part and parcel of the modern game. You don't perform, you get fecked off.

It's very rare these days you get someone given a stay of execution like Arteta and even then he's won feck all the last 3 years and fans are getting twitchy.

It's amazing how these people have to pretend that football has to work a certain way to defend ETH. There are loads of managers in the game that could do better than him.

We keep getting embarrassed under this manager, all sorts that you can think for

The number of injuries have probably saved him. They act as a good diversion and shield the actual truth that we’re very poor and very poorly coached. It’s more luck when we win than it is planned or via a game plan.

Big brave decisions are needed soon by INEOS if they’re really in this for the right reasons. Brave decisions like finding a real captain who can dictate the play during a match. Like find a coaching setup that fecking works. Like getting rid of Antony and Rashford and using the money for those two alone to build some depth where we need it.

ETH has had enough time to coach the basics at the very least. There is not evidence the basics are in play.

Absolute joke of a team

Utterly pathetic. The thing I hate about this team now is at 3-0 I genuinely didn't think it was over. Winning like that needing VAR to save us is absolutely tragic.

And so the cycle continues.....until we have the right structure, and maybe that's about to happen.

Clubs with the "right structure" sack their managers too. This structure you keep prattling on about isn't a magic wand that guarantees success regardless of who is in charge, you still need world class coaches

The poll is a tricky one... I voted against giving him another year. But to be perfectly honest, I actually wouldn't get rid of him as long as I don't know who will take over from him. The club acted dumb enough in the past to bring in a Simeone, a Conte or Southgate. Heck I wouldn't even put it past them to bring in Rafa. I'd take ETH for another season if the alternative isn't good.

I think, the criticism he gets tonight is a little weird in terms of point in time. I mean, obviously I get the frustration but I think, for the first like 70 minutes or so, we played one of the better games in the last 3 or 4 month. It was a professional performance, we just succumbed to the pressure at some point and then a combination of breakdown due to weak mentality and some luck on Coventry side (with their 2nd and 3rd goal).
Today didn't really bring anything new to the table - our defensive plan is problematic, the injuries make that even more striking. A midfield consisting of Bruno, Eriksen, McTominay for large parts of the game was bound to be problematic because none of them has the skillset of an above average CM.

I lost hope that ETH is capable of turning this around. I think, his challenge was pretty big taking into account off field issues like Sancho, CR7 and Greenwood, which all (probably bar CR7) should have been corner stones for a United attack that at least has more chances for individual brilliance which in the absence of a good plan would at least have upped our chances of scoring every once in a while. The injuries also don't really help. But all in all I think he put his hope onto the wrong players and will now have to pay the price for it.

Fair comment, what top class manager out there, in your opinion, would leap at the chance to manage United?

Do we need a top class manager? We are not a top class side, we don't have top class players, and we won't be challenging for the top trophies any time soon. There are only 3 current top managers in the game now anyway - Pep, Klopp, Carlo. None come here - although I hate we never had Ancelotti during our shite period. The fact he was at Everton and not OT is insane in hindsight.

If Liverpool can attract Amorim, I'm sure we could too. Tuchel isn't impossible and honestly I'd rather have any of Emery, De Zerbi or Inzaghi over ETH now

SJR really has fecked himself by saying that we need to get champions league football for FFP. He should have sacked ETH the moment he got in.
Top 4 was well within reach at one point but it seems Villa are going to finish on 70+ points and it was more important for us to ensure Ten Hag feels comfortable and is allowed enough time to come good rather than compete with them.

99.7% of managers in World football would jump at the chance to become one of the world's top 5-10 paid coaches.
