Eric Bailly | BBC say signing is imminent

I know plenty of people who get annoyed about it. Citys two league titles coincided with toure not having that commitment. He was a massive loss the other two seasons. And its longer than 2 or 3 weeks, as they go off to prepare as well. Plus the mental fatigue of international tournament football shouldn't be underestimated.

If this chap is good then i'm all for it but i do think ACON being mid season and every two years is weird. I guess its to do with it being a good time of year to play it weather wise in africa...

Competition lasts 3 weeks, preparation is for a week before hand (last time it lasted 17th Jan - 8th Feb)
Yes it's in the middle of the season but the time it's on isn't a significant part of the season, sure you could argue every game is important in a title winning run, but at the end of the day there's usually no FA Cup, no CL. If you get to the semi finals of the CC then those are usually played around then.

Toure was a loss sure, but ultimately City won the title by goal difference, and by virtue of Liverpool losing to Chelsea & Crystal Palace, they were hardly unstoppable.

It's inconvenient sure, but it's still an international competition for these players who are proud to represent their country, and I don't think it should be demeaned in the way that it is, purely because a player might miss 4/5 maybe 6 games assuming they win the competition.

I like to think i know a lot of players and generally have heard of up and coming players. .. never heard of this guy til now but apparently he is quite good judging by what i read from other La Liga fans. We need a center back so it works for me i guess, even though I thought we would get stones or varane or manolas.

Reckon we will get 2

I haven't seen him play but at 22 and I believe he's a fast and powerful defender who can cover at RB also, I hope he's a decent signing.

If United do sign him over the next few days, I will be very impressed in the manner the club conducts it's transfer business. Quite a few deals have been brokered without a single journalist having a clue in the recent past.

Mate, Sakho is Cannavaro and Nesta in a combined package if you decide to listen to the scousers.

Bailly is the real deal. He is really good on the ball and what impresses me the most is how comfortable he is with long balls on his left foot, while having the right foot as his preferred one.

The only player we have in CB that can touch him on ball skills at the moment is Blind, and then I am talking about the preferred foot, not the secondary one.

Hummels is the best ball playing defender in the world IMO.

If there's one thing Mourinho knows its good CBs.. I'll trust his judgement. Looks very good though.

Guessing they look at his average pass completion, saw it was lower than Smalling's and decided that way: http://www.squawka.com/comparison-m...rs/tackles_won/tackles_lost/interceptions#avg

Stones - 89%
Vertonghen - 88%
Blind - 84%
Smalling - 82%
Bailly - 77%
Smalling only has 82% pass success because he dwells on the ball and thinks about what he's going to do. The negative is that it slows down our play. Bailly looks more fluent; if he dwelt on the ball as much I bet he'd have higher pass completions. So much for the youtube vids anyhow!

Why is he not even playing this evening in the Ivory Coast team?

This should be a lesson to all who bang on about how 'we can't be like Bayern with transfers'.

He left the national team for contract talks with Villarreal, at least that's what african papers said 2 days ago.
