Absolutely buzzing. I think with Smalling, Jones, Blind and Bailly we look to have a great set of defenders. Not seen much of this lad (against Liverpool) but reports sound promising.

With Mourinho the manager i think it's pretty safe to assume we won't be seeing Blind playing at CB again any time soon.

With Jones being a perma crock as well i wouldn't be surprised if Jose brings in two centre backs.

In: Bailly, Stones
Out: Jones, Rojo, Blind (as a CB)

4 CB's is good enough, with TFM as a youth option.

Pretty sure we will. Smalling, Bailey, new signing, jones/rojo

Irish times carrying it now.... Gathering momentum.... still not convinced. Anyhoo... here is the news

José Mourinho is on the verge of making his first signing at Old Trafford after the Villarreal defender Eric Bailly underwent a medical at Manchester United.

The clubs have agreed a fee of around €32 million plus add-ons for the 22-year-old Ivory Coast international who can play across the back four and, at 6ft 1in tall, has the physical prowess to prosper in the Premier League.

Mourinho saw his priority as strengthening his defence and Bailly quickly became his primary target, nothwithstanding the overtures to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It's on the BBC. This one is done.

They are not, look at the numbers for Marquinhos, David Luiz, Mangala, Otamendi, Carvalho, Thiago Silva, Hummels, Thuram, Nesta, Ferdinand, CBs are expensive.
Yeah, but those players you mentioned were all world class at the time (Except a few), so a high price is expected. Sanches had played close to 100 games in portugal (Both for the B side and main team combined) and Bailly has played close to 70 odd games. Considering all that, it's definitely a very high price. Comparing this to Bartra who signed for Dortmund for just 6m.

It's just the fact that some people brought up the fact that Renato Sanches had only had half a season of top flight football's worth of experience and baulked at the price. Bailly's price is definitely steep as well, not to the level of say Laporte or Giminez or Marquinhos, but he has far less experience than those 3 and is about the same age as them.

If he's completed his medical could we expect an official announcement tomorrow? Brilliant how quickly we look to have wrapped this one up.

Bailly Bailly Bailly the man of the midnight don't want anybody else to chase the strikers away.
To the tune of Abba's song.

Bartra had a game time clause, his initial price was 25m iirc. And while Bailly's price is high, it's nowhere near a world record for his position, you can't say the same thing about Sanches, bonuses included Bailly will cost less than Hummels, Sanches could cost more than De Bruyne.

So is he any good?
Yes but raw... Needs a rio and a vidic to learn off... Not sure what that means today exactly. But he is Big Strong Fast Aggressive seems to love a tackle, maybe a bit too much and likes a step over when pushing forward.

Jose/staff might be able guide him

Ok.... Now every outlet is carrying it.

Bailly compelets medical set to sign 30 mill ish, blanket coverage

All of our signings last season were out of the blue. Memphis we got it done in a day, darmian we got it done in 3 days or so, Schneiderlin had a medical before the press knew what's up
We were linked to Memphis, Schneiderlin and Darmian for months.. The Morgan deal took forever with Arsenal or United. We were linked with Memphis from the day Van Gaal got here, while we were believed to be in for Darmian from the Jan transfer window.

Bastian was probably the closest to a surprise signing

Newbies can post in the mains, but I think only so much a day. Not sure of the full details.

I didn't know this. I thought it was only in the matchday thread after you got 4 likes. Oh well.

It's only newbies participating in a newbie trial who can post here. 1 like equals 5 posts a day in the main football forum, 5 likes increased to 10 and at 8 likes it increases to 20.

The thought is that this is gonna be for all newbies before the new season starts, but right now only for the ones innthe trial If I'm not mistaken.

The 'HQ' SSN rebrand still irks me

Think he'll be a good signing. Can play anywhere across the back 4, is strong and quick, so can adapt well to the prem. Not sure if Mourinho sees him as a partner for Smalling or intends to use him as a right back to start with, remains to be seen. Pretty confident he'll be a big improvement on Rojo and jones though, given they are both always injured and both a mess on the field when they aren't injured. Ship out those 2, bring in Bailly and one more center back and our defence will look a lot better and less injury prone.

Yeah, that's true, but considering that we are paying close to 30m (Guardian reported 25m plus add-ons) for a player with 40 appearances in the La Liga, it's still very steep, especially for a defender.

Hummels too had just one year on his contract, so him going for less is not a surprise.

Looks more adept on the ball than Smalling and just the type of player I was expecting Jose to sign. Might need a while to adjust to the PL though with how quick things can change and him going to ground.

Expecting Jose to be keen on Fosu-Mensah as well. He's looked very good and maybe should've played more.

Going to be interesting what our manager does with the rest of the defenders.

Isn't the deal supposedly for 30m Euros? So around 23m pounds?

BBC or not, the press always reports our buys in pounds without considering the exchange rate, and our sells with the exchange rate considered.

23m pounds for serious CB potential in this day and age isn't very steep. We paid 18m pounds for Jones once.

If he turns out to be a (slightly older) Zouma-type signing I'll be happy.

1:23

That tackle at the 2:07 mark though

No idea man... I'll call it SSN if you like, what ever is the norm is good for me.

Ignore me, im Just having a moan because very little is happening :p

Despite knowing very little about him I have a much better feeling towards this deal than Zlatan (I find his whole egontrip thing obnoxious and it is already getting old) Bailly just seems a big enthuiastic cb who will play agressively and kick people now and then... I love that in a player. The video of Hunter talking about him that was posted earlier got me quite excited for this deal. He sounds like my kinda player

The last time I had no idea who a player was before we signed him for silly money, he turned out to be Martial. I hope he can deliver much of the same because boy we need it. Hopefully we can sign another CB this window as well. I'm not completely convinced we have enough cover at the back, even if we have signed Bailly
