every spanish report has said its 31 million euros, that comes to 19 million pounds. Some say it may go to 41 million euros with addons. If he achieve the add ons, then we might get a world class centre half, so why not? 19 Million is great money for a potentially great defender,We spunked that on nani 9 years ago.
Just checked in Transfer tweets section. Ballague said 40million euros=31.3m pounds, Mirror said 32m pounds

Fair point. But I think for this sum nearly every CB is gettable- maybe even guys like gimenez for a few million more. So I'd rather go for established quality(although I do agree I haven't seen him). As far as Stones, etc. are concerned, Stones is just overrated, overhyped, overpriced typical English talent who, although, not as bad as people have been suggesting on caf in last few days, is still a pretty average defender.
Gimenez isn't going anywhere. Atleti will get a big sum from making it to UCL final, and with the sale of Griezman. We have a better chance of getting Koke than Gimenez.

Theres an awful lot of people on these forums that havent got to grip with the new market prices. £10 million last year is £30 this year, the market has exploded the last few years

Chelsea fans will be happy....

We've got Zouma as a young, pacy, powerful defender and I'd imagine Conte will bring in a couple of players from Italian football if he does not fancy Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill or Christensen at centre back.

I doubt many Chelsea fans will be crying themselves to sleep if United sign this guy.

I think you're talking of values from 5 years ago. Don't forget David Luiz of all people went for 50m not long ago.
Luiz was basically an exception. No one knows what was going on in PSG's minds. Leaving that as an exception, I think its just Thiago who has been more expensive. Mangala and Otamendi were around 32m(32m, 31.7m respectively)iirc. Classifying him in the same bracket is pretty overspending, but again, I haven't seen him so won't judge his ability or potential

What's the deal with Zouma, will he be ready for the season?

Didn't Mangala end up being something stupid like 45m or so?

I agree. I just bought his name up because his price is just a few million pounds more than Bailly's and Gimenez is a great talent. I won't comment on Bailly as I haven't seen him play

Dumbstar was really impressed when he played against them in the Europa League

Not really, he plays in a shit league. :p:wenger:

Seriously though forget how much he's worth, I've only seen him in one game and he was outstanding. And we weren't slouches, he just had answers to all the questions.

Can't believe he's slipping under the radar like Dele Alli. Obviously not anymore.

They still living in that age where 30 million pound buys are for 'marquee' signings.

Some comparisons on Squawka stat-wise to give you an idea.

Not really the world class established player United are crying out for IMO but time will tell.

Stats don't lie.

It was however reported 18 months into his contract that the fee was more in the region of £42m due to spiralling costs as a result of Mangala's split ownership at Porto, with City having to pay in the region of £18m to two companies which owned over 40% of Mangala's economic rights. This second figure would make Mangala the most expensive defender in British transfer history.

That's nonsense. In essence you're saying Hummels, who cost £30m this summer, would be £10m last year?

I agree that prices have increased, as they always have done. It's just that there's more money in the game now so fees rise proportionately. But you can not say £10m last year is £30m this year.

One thing about this signing is he becomes our third "Eric" in modern times (can't think of any others). Thus far, we have Cantona on one end of the scale and the Djembas on the absolute opposite end. We can chart his success at United if he comes by using this scale. Hopefully he ends up nearer Cantona on the Eric spectrum

Is he good? Never heard of him. Preferred Varane and after him Manolas. Is it fix?

Didn't know about this. Thanks.
But still, the oil rich clubs pay a lot as they have sugardaddy owners. I think, in a market where Hummels was sold for 35m euros, a relatively unknown player should be way cheaper
Didn't Hummels have 1 year on his contract

The Spanish press have got the only real sources on this at the moment. They say that Villareal aren't getting the 40m Euro release clause (the £31/32m that the English press are quoting) but they are hoping to do a deal for something like 30m Euros + 10m in add-ons/performance payments. That's about £23m as the base price.

To be fair, Hummels was in his last year of his contract and probably didn't sign a new one.

Stats don't lie, but it also don't paint the whole picture.

Ok i slightly exaggerated but fees of £30 million are nothing fees anymore. Thats no longer a risky fee.

In fairness you're comparing a 22 year old who's only come onto the scene in the last couple of years to two of the best in the business each with circa 10 years more experience.

I don't think we have been crying out for a world class centre half at all to be honest. IMO we've been crying out for a beast instead of Blind in some games and he certainly fits that bill.

Pretty much this.

With a proper midfield our defence will look much more solid. Would like to see another cb come in as well, as jones is a crock and rojo is useless, but we probably need to strengthen other areas just as much...

I know that and he can still be "moulded" but is that what United want this year? more "potential"? I agree Blind isn't physically strong though, I suppose when he's drilled under Mourinho and has Smalling to tell him what to do when he goes wrong its a good learning process, but the transfer fee and other areas to still strengthen.

Mourinho obviously sees something there.

The fee isn't particularly high, I think if you factor in the way the English game is about to really take off finance wise, teams like west ham are able to splash 30 mil on a player and it will be the same throughout the league. If we are to buy players from any other league you have to pay the English team premium then you have to pay the we're Manchester united premium, its unfair but that's the way it works. Never heard of him up until about an hour ago but if we don't have him signed by the morning I will not be renewing. The positions we need dealing with are CB RB ( he can do both) CM RW and CF, if him and zlatan get done I think we only really need 2 or 3 players, give me grizi pogba and some wonderkid and i'll be buzzing. Then again I was happy with our activity in the last two windows too, but at the same time under the right manager maybe they were good windows.
