So he's not really as good as laporte, whose city bound?

Laporte is far more experienced, and is better I would say yes. However in terms of potential you never know

Not many young defenders are as good as Laporte so it isn't a necessarily bad thing if he isn't as good. He still has time to improve and only time will tell if he can be better.

I haven't seen anyone contradict their opinion that LVG was fast with his transfers? People didn't like LVG because he was a shit manager here, and his 'philosophy' bored us to feck.

i had quoted a poster that seemed to think LVG was fecking about not signing anyone early in the summer being tedious and dragging on.

Surprised it hasn't been posted yet but Sky are saying that we are in talks with Villareal, with Barca, PSG and City also after him.

Well it seems like we have wrapped up the deal, hopefully!

I'll have to start watching the Spanish gossip shows again. Though, to be fair, they do usually focus on Barcelona and the Madrid teams.

He certainly did a good job for Villareal in some games this season, because I remember how they played, but I can tell you absolutely nothing about him. Which is a good sign because I normally only remember central defenders who do something stupid.

I wonder if @Skorenzy is around, he usually remembers not only the performances but the names of the players involved. :D

Looks like a good player from his youtube vids but his stats aren't that high and he doesn't look worth the €40m quoted. Gets a few too many yellows for my liking but I hope that's a young player thing. Except, at 23, he's no longer that young. Didn't we get Vidic for less than €10m?
23 is young for a defender. He'd still be about 5 years from hitting his peak. Hopefully he will iron out some of the unwarranted aggression

He played 25 games in league for them(9 fecking yellows btw), 10 last year and just 5 year before that. Before that he was playing in segunda.

Some here even pretend they have watched him closely, or saying that he is good basing on one game which he didn't even finish. Villareal side that by the looks of it are duller side to watch than us this year.

God I hate transfer forum sometimes.

Vitesse will walk the Eredivisie next year.

It's a good time to be a Vitesse fan:

---------Rashford
Martial-Pereira-Baker
----Chalobah-Loftus
Shaw-CBJ--Miazga-Fosuh
---------De Gea

Erm, what?

Their 'Sky Sources' is Balague, so not very optimistic yet. Their website says even PSG, City, Barca are talking to the club. So nothing is done yet.

This. Although AS saying deal could be done in coming hours and that's where Balague got story from originally.

Ridiculous.

ACON lasts 3 weeks max, assuming the player's team starts and goes to the final. You're looking at 2 weeks on average at the end of January/early Feb. There's usually no CL, Carling Cup is the only major cup that's active, and the PL after the christmas period is somewhat quiet.

I never understood the bias against ACON tbh.

Anyway Bailly from the one game I saw of him at Villarreal (against 'Pool) he looked very good.

I know plenty of people who get annoyed about it. Citys two league titles coincided with toure not having that commitment. He was a massive loss the other two seasons. And its longer than 2 or 3 weeks, as they go off to prepare as well. Plus the mental fatigue of international tournament football shouldn't be underestimated.

If this chap is good then i'm all for it but i do think ACON being mid season and every two years is weird. I guess its to do with it being a good time of year to play it weather wise in africa...

I have been advocating this guy for months, and now all the sudden when we are interested you got PSG, City and Barca interested as well. Cnuts!

According to wiki, Villarreal sold Gabriel and signed Bailly as a replacement for under 6m euros.. and less than 18 months on.. are selling him for 40m ..

Great business..
So we just need to find who they plan on replacing Bailly with and buy him.

Bailly also plays as a full back. He has this season for Villareal and those stats include probably the crosses so naturally he'll have a bit lower completion rate compared to CB's.
According to whoscored, from the CB position alone he has a 80.3% completion rate this season.

Ever since the Martial deal, I don't question the club's scouting department. If they believe he is legit then I'm all for it.

Never heard of him but since he is linked with United lets hype him up like hell!

Does anyone know some Bailly stats, like pass success percentage, aerial won and yellow/red cards? He is not in the list of the thread "Do we really need a new CB".

I would like to compare him with other players like Manolas, Stones, Marquinhos, etc.

For example, in pass success percentage:
  • Marquinhos=92.5
  • Varane=89.0
  • Stones=88.7
  • Manolas=86.5
  • Koulibaly=85.9
In the video, Bailly doesn't look like a ball playing CB. What's his pass success %?

Yeah, fair enough. Im sure mourinho would do a good job managing him.

Where have you seen this figure? No one has posted any other figure than 40m euros (with a source)
A few tweets in this very thread also being leaked on twitter itself.
It's 40m euros if every single objective is met. People making rash judgements on players they hardly seen because the fee will max out if they score 1000 goals and come 1/2/3 in the Balon Dor awards in one year is ridiculous.

I actually think we might be buying him to play RB.

I was thinking that he's gotta be great as he's called Eric...Then I remembered Eric Djemba Djemba
