Looks like bullshit quotes from his agent, but I'd prefer to go for this kid than Valencia really.

You prefer a unknown talent to a proven player in the PS? I think you're on your own there...

Well that's my opinion, don't really give a monkeys if I'm "on my own" or not. Remember - Ronaldo was an unknown talent when we signed him. Fergie smoothed off the rough edges and produced a diamond. I just fancy he might go for a young kid with raw talent like this one. Possibly even in addition to another attacking midfielder (like Silva maybe).

I see no United quality in Valencia, maybe I'm wrong, but I just can't see it

This Costa fella looks a promising player judging by that 10 minute youtube. Some excellent skill and the ability to make something from nothing. Also has a crap load of pace. Good finisher too. What with our Brazilian lads over at United, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened to be honest.

8:10 impressed me, the speed to reach that ball and the compersure to then pass it on is excellent. Would surely be a fan favourite if he did play for us.

I remember seeing this video when we were 1st linked to him.. Saw it again Today and realised an important thing about him.. It seems like he loves to pass & is not Greedy.. That IMO is a great attribute for such a young player who has so much skill.. He is pacy and seems to be a set piece specialist.. he looks fairly lightweight and also seems a little one footed (however that can be very wrong judgment)

I for one will be following this saga with great intent.. Both Eden Hazard and Douglas Costa have seemed very exciting and the fact that they are so young plays into their hands.. Ideally they should remain with their clubs for a few seasons more and progress further..

I'm sold, wanna see this lad in a United shirt! Just our sort of player, looks to have a some determination and drive about him too.

I'm really hoping that we find someone who has not been all over the back pages, that none of the journalists have in their sticker books, so that everybody will be like "who? what the feck?"

Then said player goes on to be as good, if not better than Ronaldo.

So hes a left footed right winger? Looks a good prospect albeit very raw. Seems to be a strong little fecker aswell

He's a left footed left winger. Also takes freekicks.

Considered a better prospect than Anderson was considered, due to his first few matches and his first goal scored... But he's done so very little for his club so far.

A hand full of games.

Off the pitch he's supposedly going down a bad path. Arrogant and big headed and such.

I hope we don't overpay for him, we were linked with him previously for about 8M

If it was 8m last time it's surely be 15m at least now. To be honest though, it seems that 15-20m gets you an up an coming younger player these days, Nani, Anderson, Carrick, Valencia. I would say that seems to be the going rate and if we got Valencia and this lad for 15m each, with a 20-30m striker then we'd have done fairly good business in todays market.

What i like about the lad is that he has a proper name unlike all the other brazillians.

Some times you look at braziliians original names and wonder how the hell the come up with some funny inho type names...

Dougie Costa, I like the sound of that.

A little one footed from that video, though.

a young left footed left winger with potential.. didnt we sign tosic

having 2 for the same position would be rather pointless , no ?

if we were linked last summer , fergie probably did have a look .. we signed tosic in jan .. couldve been costa , wasnt

it might happen , just that the story is most probably bs

his agent knows we are looking at 4-5 players to replace ronaldo .. did we give him a list too ?

Im interested.

Talented left footed players are rare to find. He looks like he has a lot of speed, skill, vision and bravery. Pace is the biggest asset in football today and he has plenty of it. Not to mention he takes set pieces, has great close control and seems to have an accurate yet powerful shot on him. I see the potential there to develop into an excellent winger/attacking midfielder.

Something in my water tells me he's our new number 7. Dont ask me why, but he's sharp and quick and he reminds me of a young Ronaldo.

Well, I could see him coming in much the same as Ronaldo did when Beckham left. We did the deal a year earlier than planned and gave him first team chances. With Valencia offering the premiership experience and this lad the up and coming talent between them it could work. He's a lefty too, which helps.

Definitely the sort of lad Fergie likes (sounded weird sorry).

If we sign him i will be very happy, Ive seen one youtube of him and have decided that if he signs he will be a star for us :).

Have to say I think he could become a world star at United

Full name:______Douglas Costa de Souza
Date of birth:__=14 September 1990
Place of birth:___Sapucaia do Sul, Brazil
Height:_______.1.73 m
Playing position:/Attacking midfielder

He definitely has potential to become a world-class player at United.

Very talented youngster, exactly the same as Ronaldo was in 2003, age is nearly the same, I didn't think he's not even 19 yet. Recommended by Jaap Stam.

Quick, good in free kicks, nice dribble, reminds me young Cristiano Ronaldo, would be fantastic to see someone like Costa our new number 7. Maybe Ferguson will have faith in another young footballer?

Villarreal made £8m offer earlier this year, but it was rejected by Gremio. His contract runs out in February 2013 and his release clause may be a problem, because it's £21m - a lot of money. Sport.co.uk says that £10m offer should satisfy Gremio. His agent said that United made a contact some time ago, but there are some South American teams in the battle.

Have a look at some videos of him:

Came across that today and it said his buyout clause £17.8m, if we are interested then I think we could get him for less but who knows. We're linked with such a ridiculous number of players that I hope we are able to go about our transfer business quickly and quiety (hopefully successfully too) and be done with a lot of these "reports" etc.

Just posting the story instead of the link:

Manchester United are preparing to sign Gremio starlet Douglas Costa as a replacement for Real Madrid-bound Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Brazilian's agent.

United's network of scouts have been tracking the 18-year-old attacking midfielder for the last two years, but the Premier League champions are now ready to make a firm offer.

"They (Manchester United) have identified four or five possible replacements for Cristiano Ronaldo in the world, and Douglas is one of them," agent Cesar Bottega said.

"We have been contacted by several clubs some time ago, including Manchester (United), but by South American ones as well."

Douglas, who has received rave reviews in his homeland, has four years remaining on his contract with Gremio but reportedly has a £17.8m buyout clause.

The diminutive U20 international is seen as one of the biggest up-and-coming talents in Brazil - alongside Santos winger Neymar and Palmeiras striker Keirrison - and is also a free-kick specialist. Costa generally plays through the centre but can also play on the left.

Since an £80m fee was agreed with Real for Ronaldo, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has stepped up his hunt for a suitable replacement. Wigan Athletic winger Antonia Valencia is also a target.

After absorbing all the names ,watching the videos and reading the info,I have to agree these two look outstanding and these are the sort of players I would love to see here rather than somebody like the vastly overpriced Ribery.Of course that it is only my thoughts,Alex knows best

I second that, these 2 players really make you take notice, and make dribbling look easy, and make light work of difficult situations

A consensus of opinon gathering here lads, somebody better tell SAF,he will be glad of our input.Joking aside these two look exciting
