He definitely has potential to become a world-class player at United.

Very talented youngster, exactly the same as Ronaldo was in 2003, age is nearly the same, I didn't think he's not even 19 yet. Recommended by Jaap Stam.

Quick, good in free kicks, nice dribble, reminds me young Cristiano Ronaldo, would be fantastic to see someone like Costa our new number 7. Maybe Ferguson will have faith in another young footballer?

Villarreal made £8m offer earlier this year, but it was rejected by Gremio. His contract runs out in February 2013 and his release clause may be a problem, because it's £21m - a lot of money. Sport.co.uk says that £10m offer should satisfy Gremio. His agent said that United made a contact some time ago, but there are some South American teams in the battle.

Have a look at some videos of him:

Coincidence that we're apparently bidding on "Douglas Costa" and Samuel Eto'o at the same time? Definitely the same person. Aren't there rumours that Eto'o is a complete weirdo? Schizo more like, in his alternate life he's a 18 year old Brazilian kid.

Also highlights that Eto'o wouldn't be that much a cheaper option than Villa or Benzema considering we'd have to buy Douglas Costa at the same time. Or would we get Douglas Costa free with the Eto'o deal? Or Eto'o free with the Douglas Costa deal? Legal minefield, that.

If £10m is enough to tempt Gremio we should gamble on him. But I think we'll have to pay closer to £20m.

He, Silva/Valencia and a striker if Tevez leaves and we're sorted.

it would be the sweetest feeling to pick up the next ronaldo, messi or kaka for 10-20 million

i remember milan getting kaka for 10 million and he was fantastic from day one

to replace ronaldo/bring in a player to improve our play and still have 60 million available would be amazing

It would be sweet for sure. Everybodies saying how we're doomed and then we pull one out the bag who's better and isn't a twat. Would be laughing my tits off. If I had tits that is. Maybe i'll hold my wifes tits and laugh.

looks like a less selfish robinho.

He's playing in a league far inferior to ours, to say he can replace Ronaldo is a bit optimistic! He'll need time to develop and it'll take him time to get used to the physicality of the prem.

Fergie...sign him up! Fergie Fergie sign him up!!

Rather buy a young player with bags of potential than spend 40 odd million on a world class player who may flop.

This! There's no better feeling than watching one of our youngsters develop, the good times and the frustrating times are both priceless and it keeps in with the ethos of our club (rather do what we do than what that sham of a club Madrid does).

Now that we've bid for Ribery and Valencia seems to be a dead cert;

1.Will we loan him back.
2.Both Ribery and Valencia have many years left at the top, so will he, Ljajic and Tosic get the chance to break through and develop unhindered?

is their no restriction on non EU players anymore?

This is England my friend.. not Spain or Italy.. & if you mean age wise than yea there is.. but he is already 18 and it is widely regarded that he has a EU passport too so no work permit issues..

However if we truly are interested I can see the figure being somewhere between 12 - 17M GBP.. Although his club may play hardball (as he has a contract till 2013) and make us pay his release clause which varies in different reports.. Most say it is 21M GBP others say its around 17-18m GBP..

But seriously guys he is nowhere near ready to leave Brazil yet.. needs to fine tune his game and still grow as a player and person..

Anderson's youtube video was totally misleading. But Nani's were nothing impressive at all and there weren't many of them when we signed him... a few goals, and highlights in his good cameo against Belgium.

Anderson turned out to be a completely different player. In his youtube clips he was running and dribbling past players. . .and did the odd insane trick. Are we sure we've actually bought the same Anderson and not his twin brother?

To be fair, Anderson has played in a deeper and more defensive role though. Maybe it would be different if he started off playing as one of the wingers or something for us.

I hate youtube vids anyone actually seen this guy play a match?

I found an article by the excellent tim vickery that mentions him-
Douglas Costa is a left-footed attacking midfielder of rare talent who made an immediate impression last year when he got into the Gremio first team - but then the global hype machine went into overdrive.

Before he had played three senior games he was already being linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid. From anonymity to "world's most wanted" lists inside a month - it is a huge burden for a teenager to carry.

Douglas Costa has looked like a man over-eager to live up to his billing in both the matches Brazil have played so far. He has been trying to do too much, running down blind alleys and falling over in search of a cheap free-kick.

I'd rather go on the opinion of a fan of his club, than a youtube video. And he doesnt like Costa's antics off the pitch and says its far too early to judge if Douglas Costa is another Anderson gem or a wannabe. I'll wait till he's ranting and raving about him - which if he's anywhere near as good as his reputation already suggests, should be next season.

To be fair, Anderson has played in a deeper and more defensive role though. Maybe it would be different if he started off playing as one of the wingers or something for us.

Indeed I believe there was a derby game that Anderson played in when his team were down to 9 men and he picked up the ball and ran practically across the entire pitch to then score the winning goal.

Anderson will be given more freedom to go forward soon. Just like Carrick, he was told to change his game.

I still have faith in Anderson, I think Fergie is trying get the best out of Anderson's potential, which may mean not always playing him in his strongest position- asking him to do things that he is not comfortable doing. By doing this he will learn his trade and in a couple of years we will have another world class player.

Although I do echo the thoughts of others, and hopefully he will be played in a more attacking role.

We really shackled Anderson. Hopefully he is given more of a licence to express himself now that Cristiano has done one.

Firmly in the 'Sign Douglas Costa' Brigade.

Without sounding too much like Arsene Wenger, I'd much rather we invest in rough diamonds like Costa and Valencia than spend a ridiculous amount on Ribery et al.
