I would join into your laughter. But the guy still has a lot to say at the club. So for me it's mostly sad.
He's just a textbook narcissist who can't handle others receiving attention or even worse, praise.

Yeah, I’m sort of familiar with some of his comments which are posted on here and how most Bayern fans on here don’t particularly like him at all. Just found your comment funny and had a good chuckle.

Good to know at least some people derive entertainment from his interviews. They are so annoying. I swear, the time he spent in jail was the best time I have seen the club have. :(

Yeah I’m surprised the conviction didn’t end his career etc. Unfortunately so, for you guys at least!

If you read his latest interview he goes into detail about the process of the signings that have been made, he was involved in the process, but he cannot be held fully responsible for there success or failure at United. I also think winning two trophies in two seasons, with the squad he has had, is getting a tune out of them.
I think its best to stop looking behind at what has happened before the takeover of the football side of the club, we know we were run by buffoons and we cannot change that. I am sure now we have experienced management in place above Ten Hag, things will improve over the next couple of seasons, If they don't then the manager will have to answer questions from his bosses.
I saw the interview and when they asked him about the likes of Antony he conveniently said “Murtough could have vetoed during there recruitment process”, which is a total cop out because he’d be saying he wasn’t backed if Murtough said no to Antony and went for someone else instead. Fact of the matter is, Ten Hag has signed players that he could have said no to but he didn’t, he now has to get the best out of those players. Trophies or not, you can’t only have one or two players out of 10 that are actually performing well that you brought in.

ETH name dropping a player for the first time since taking over, if i'm not mistaken?

Good signs.

I am not sure where you are getting ten signings from unless you are counting loan signings and free signings. I also think the players themselves have a responsibility for their own performance levels, seeing as they are professionals.
The fact is, Ten Hag has managed the club to two cup wins in two seasons, we had not won anything for six seasons prior which surely makes your dismissive comment about winning trophies a bit negative to say the least. I am looking forward to us improving and winning more trophies over the next few years.

Did no one think, "the manager wants this lad but he's £85mill, seems a bit steep no?"

Nail on head. Ten Hag might be telling Ashworth and co. all Summer that he wants the next Antony and they might think it sounds a good signing.
But I 100% promise you they will say “sorry Erik, we tried but they want 85m and we don’t value him that high”.

Antony and Van De Beek are the deals which are really hurting our budget this year. Could so easily have this deal and at least one midfielder sorted by now with that money which is so annoying.

This is a done deal IMO the way ETH speak to the media about wanting him 2 years ago. DeLigt only want us and BM want to sell. We will get a reasonable price for sure. Just wait. Be patient.

We will have 3 world class CBs in Martinez, Yoro and DeLigt.

It does seem to be going well for De Ligt, but I don't see how the interview supports that. The context is just all the Dutch hiring/rumours and Ten Hag explains the process. This is the relevant bit:
From the outside it still seems to be heading in a 'Dutch' direction. You have now signed Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt is also a very serious option. Isn't that a bit much?

"It remains to be seen whether De Ligt will come. But the great thing is: during my holiday I was away from the process for three or four weeks. During that period it was really the club, the newly established scouting and recruitment department, that brought in these players.

“The fact that there are also Dutch people among them is actually a coincidence. Primarily these were players who were brought in from our organization. But of course I support it, let that be clear. And we still make the choice together.”

And so it went with Leny Yoro, who came from Lille? And with intended purchases such as De Ligt and Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton?

"I will not specifically comment on whether or not to attract those last two names. But any purchases are entirely based on the advice and analyzes of our scouting and recruitment department. That is not surprising, because we know very well what we are looking for within our philosophy, in terms of age structure and playing style.

"Of course I know Matthijs well, I'm not going to deny that. I wanted to sign him two years ago, but he had already gone a long way with Bayern Munich. But believe it or not: he did not specifically come up with me in this process.”

Yet the outside world will conclude differently: even more Dutch people.

“I know it creates a certain image, of course I understand how that works. But ultimately the criterion that prevails above all is: is the player good or not good? Does it match in terms of character, age and of course the quality we are looking for. I also understand: if you don't win, such an image will be magnified in the media. But whether a player has blonde, red or black hair. Whether he comes from the Netherlands, Sweden or France.

I understand the context. But I still feel ETH spoke a bit more than he was supposed to. The need to explain the situation on DeLigt suggests there is something in it.

Also, usually a player only want us and make it so blatantly clear to the medias means he got a lot of encouragement on our side too.

This kind of transfer will usually get done sensibly.

mufc offered around £30m for Matthijs de Ligt - Bayern rejected the offer and are demanding £42m plus add-ons. Negotiations are continuing.

A 220Kpw player who has a history of demanding a starting spot wherever he goes, willing to be to be a squad player and compete in the Yoropa League?

I'd be surprised if this transfer goes through.

As long as we're negotiating, i feel like we'll find middle ground. Bayern seem desperate to sell as well, and they want to move for Tah.

Get it done Omar.

This will get done and Lindelof will be sold. I'd hope Maguire would go too but I think he'll stay unless we get too good an offer to refuse.

We're still lowballing Bayern for this one :D.

One thing I don't understand about this transfer is who would be starter at RCB? I bet we promised Yoro that status, and De Ligt would want it as well.

I really really dont think anyone promised Yoro anything or will promise de Ligt anything

It would be: We will have 4 cb's + evans. You will get plenty of chances given the amount of games to show you are the best. We will rotate a lot, but you get plenty of games you are the best to play in the games that matter most.

I really dont think transfers are necessarily dont with a starting 11 in mind, but from a 'what do we need in the squad' perspective.

I don't think it is a lowball

He's out the Bayern team behind Dier, and out of his national XI too. His stock won't rise until he leaves Bayern and they need the money to sign Tah

£30m seems very fair, and I know people say it all the time but I would stick to that range. Perhaps £35m which includes installments and add-ons

Bayern bought him for almost double that only two years ago so its a big hit...

Having not played much this season and considering Hoeness' comments, I think the deal will get done for around 35m plus add-ons.

Guy is still only turning 25 in august. Thought he was 27.

In the context of Yoro being 18 years old, and Wilcox & Ten Hag reportedly having discussed the issue of us overplaying young players last season, and ETH already saying that Yoro will be one of a group of CBs, I don't think there's even the remotest chance that Yoro has been promised he will be a guaranteed starter at CB.

People are overly fixated on the ideas of "starters" anyway in what is more than ever a squad game. At City even someone like Dias, who is notionally very much a "starter", still sat out 26% of their PL games, let alone missing games in other competitions.

Yeah and there will be plenty of games to be played as we qualified for Europa + 2 domestic cups.

It seems like all parties wants the same thing here, Bayern needs to free up funds for transfers and have 2 other starting CBs in Upamecano and Kim, United and ETH wants De Ligt and De Ligt himself wants to come here and reunite with ETH.
I'm confident that this tranfer will go through.

ETH wasn't brought in to be a football scout and recruitment specialist though. Or he shouldn't have been. It shouldn't be his responsibility to build a squad. He should be included in the process but not be the main guy. It looks like the club leaned too heavily on him during the transfer season because a set up of Arnold, Murtough, Fletcher and a scouting team under a revamp didn't have the knowledge or structure to do it. If you start a job as a librarian and those responsible for ICT maintenance aren't competent, and you end up taking a bigger role in that even though it wasn't your area of expertise, then you take some responsibility for the computers breaking but it's really a limited amount.

Think we shift Maguire rather than Lindelof considering :

- Lindelof is more suited to a high line
- More sellers for Maguire
- De Ligt is stylistically similar to Maguire

Also, I really hope someone else doesnt come in for De Ligt while we keep haggling.

I think we indeed shouldn't push De Ligt his patience to much, he will be more and more open to other offers the longer we wait.. Or when he gets back in training Kompany may push to keep him after working with him for a bit..

We should get this done asap.. There is also value in bringing him in sooner so he can do pre-season her and settles before the season starts..

Maybe we - for once - don’t pursue a plain vanilla route and decide it differently: the one who is better plays? :)

Yep we need this over the line asap.

Then deal with PSG and I would be far more hopeful for this season. Not demanding anything other than real progress and better football, the latter though I am not sure ETH can deliver on a consistent basis.

De Ligt is NOT similar to Maguire for one, this narrative needs to stop and secondly Lindelof was Maguires backup last year why would Maguire be sold instead?

Out of curiosity, why do you think Lindelof is more suited to a high line?
