Building a backline of crocks with him, Martinez and Shaw. Fecking madness.

Never mind the fact they'll let him go for £40-45 million. Red flags all over this and we're just ignoring them because "big name", a-fecking-gain.

What's his injury situation at the moment? Obviously he's not in Germany with the national team. Hopefully not a case of another player joining carrying an injury that delays their transition into the squad.

He's dutch lad.

Seem to remember a lot of fawning over him when he was linked to us a while back.

You make him sound like his North Korean namesake (who I'd pay money to see play CB).
Its basically the same as with Upamecano.
They both have all the traits to be exceptional CBs, but make too many mistakes with stupid tacklings or bad positioning.

Thats why most Bayern fans want to keep de Ligt, because he is very reliable.

But i still have hope Kim will turn out great.
It was his first year, he had problems to communicate and due to military duties and Asia Cup he basically didnt have a break all season.

Martinez started the first 2 games in the Copa America. He didn’t start the last one because they were already through and the coach rotated a few players.
Yeah Martinez is in Argentinas first 11 now.

He's less injury prone than Varane.

And Martinez is barely warranted as a crock. He had 1 serious injury that might or might not reoccur.

We'll never learn. Blinded by the big name every time.

Its pretty harsh to label Martinez and De Ligt as crocks.

Explain to us why De Ligt is a crock ....

He was first choice before the injury as well and is definitely their first choice now and has looked very good so far in the tournament.

well that’s obviously not true as since the WC final (when he was on the bench), he’s:

• started - off at 45 mins
• bench

And been injured since so only just came back to the national team now in June.
Looks like he may finally be first choice though if it was just rotation in the previous match, but until this past month he’s never been a first choice guaranteed starter for his country.

A price or £37-45m (depending on what reports you read) would be excellent value. His wages could be a stumbling block though.

I’d like to see us employ a more performance weighted scale for the big earners. Tell them the money is there to be earned, but the top end is performance and results based.

Not only would it deal with us getting fleeced by lads who aren’t pulling their weight, it would also help filter out those players who want to come for the wrong motivations.

If we get Ugarte and/or a fit Casemiro and no longer play a single pivot midfielder with some super ridiculous high press I can see how this would work.

Not quite possession dominating and expansive but I get the need to concentrate on defence/being hard to beat.

When someone lands on your leg you run a good chance of getting injured, thats not injury prone.

further the other injury that kept him out was also an impact injury and that can happen to anyone in the right circumstances and then the comeback was botched as the operation to fox it failed.

He's less injury prone than Varane.

Impact injuries are not a sign someone is injury prone, café logic is someone breaks one of our players legs and he is out for a while injury prone

I may have been mistaken then, I thought he was. He definitely is now though.

The Times are now quoting too that Bayern want £42m plus add-ons. I think we'll pay that.

That’s not a lot for his quality. It is a lot for his injury record

Would love to see him here. Despite having underperformed since his move from Ajax, he’s still relatively young and has all the qualities to be a good, reliable and stable presence at the back alongside Licha. Ten Hag, I’m assuming, will also know how to get the best out of him.

I just hope we don’t get him on some crazy wages though.

I don't think that will be a issue with de Ligt and Martinez because both CBs will step up and even a single midfielder won't be alone in central areas because the CBs stepping up will allow one of the fullbacks to come into midfield to occupy a space which I believe will be vacated by Kobbie Mainoo.

Being proactive in your approach is important imo and defending from the front with a higher press has to be the go to strategy if we want to be a more proactive team. And just the CBs being more assertive in their actions out of possession will make things simple for the fullbacks who will then know when to stay and when to go. So I am bit concerned with de Ligt's injury record in the last season but him and Martinez will defend proactively and both are players are also progressive in their passing. Diogo Dalot said it best last season in the quoted post below.

Why does he move club so often?

One of those players who built a reputation at 18 but never lived up to it. Juve were still able to offload him on that hype but Bayern got struck with him. Eric Dier went from "Harry Kane needs a friend" to a regular starter over him. Then like for many other clubs, United have come as a Messiah to help out Bayern get rid of him while he has 3 years still remaining on his hefty contract. But he should finally be able to settle at a club as we are notoriously terrible sellers.

He is considered a flopped at Juve, Bayern are interested in selling him because they need money for Olise, not to mention his injury record plus the fact he's not that much of a good defender.

We are being fleed here, three years from now we'll be looking at this wondering how stupid we were to even take the bait, a loan with a 25m obligation to buy sounds fair.
